That is Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario would be a continuation of the 3D games (Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy) but likely in 2D this time.

...ohhh, no "Bros". I missed that, sorry.

Wait, don't we first need the three "Super Mario #" games that precede it, then, before having a Super Mario 4? My not-actually-existing OCD demands it!

"Newer!" Super Mario Bros. Now with new hat.

Oh yes, a return to hat-based powerups! :D

We do.
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy 1/2

I missed the universe where "Sunshine" and "Galaxy" were numerical digits. :p

By the way, I would really somehow crave something like Super Mario War but with a crapton of players (and maybe in 3D, networked, in one of those realworldy environments). Total, complete chaos, characters exploding and getting squashed constantly, no real objective other than to score bragging rights, Mario Kart Battle Mode style. :D

We do.
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy 1/2

Could be that this is the 4th generation of 3D Super Mario games.

With the galaxys we would already have 4 games. So i belive its just the "4th generation" Super Mario!

1. Gen -> Mario 64
2. Gen -> Sunshine
3. Gen -> Super Mario Galaxy series
4. Gen -> "Super Mario 4"

Galaxy/M64 Mario practically had the same move set.
Galaxy (especially 2) also introduced near-perfect platforming across a variety of different settings and environments.

I would like to purchase whatever it is you are all smoking.

Similar movesets, sure. But the games play very differently. It's like comparing Melee physics to Brawl physics. They may look to same to an outside observer, but they're really not.

Maybe this only applies to people who play Mario games far more than any healthy person should.

The Galaxy games still lacked as many moves Mario had in Mario 64, and there is a bigger delay between the time you press a button and Mario does something in the Galaxy games than there was with Mario 64 and Sunshine. There's always something that can be improved.

I guess I need to pay attention more closely when I play SMG1&2 again. Hell, I'll be playing through all of the stars this summer, so I'll pay more attention to button press timing and the like.

Galaxy 2 is Super Mario 3-2, obviously

The moves that were removed weren't missed though. Why'd you need them?

Something that could become vastly popular for Wii U is a LittleBigPlanet-esque Super Mario game, where the player creates own levels that can be shared over a network with other players. It could work similar to the popular Super Mario World editor Lunar Magic, but incorporate more engines. You could choose to create levels in Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros 3. and Super Mario World. Certainly should the game come packed with a story mode as well. The Wii U Remote with its touch screen should make creating levels easy, even simpler programming shouldn't be a hassle.

This would by no means be that impressive on a technical level, but I believe it would be an absolute marvel when it comes to sales. Why is that Nintendo has yet to provide a level editor for a Super Mario game, I've read about it somewhere but I don't remember the source?

Speculation time to bring this thread back on track:

Will Reggie or Iwata come out first on stage at E3?
What whacky thing will Miyamoto do?
How long into the conference before Iwata flicks his lovely set of hair back?

Yes I'm getting desperate because it seems we've run out of everything else to speculate about.

Ideaman, Lherre, ShockingAlberto, please, please save us?

I agree with you. There's just no friction to the controls in SMG, which is a cardinal sin for a Mario platformer.

3D Land is now my fav 3D Mario Game with Sunshine stuck to it as an extremely close second.

So much good in the game, and how well the elements from the classic 2D games are utilized.

I just couldn't get used to the camera and space theme in Galaxy. :/

If only Yoshi was in 3D Land, that would've made it even better I think.

Neither. Miyamoto will.
He'll probably come out in a Pikmin hat.
20 minutes tops.

Miyamoto first.
Then Reggie.

Miyamoto will do a "physical challenge"-style demo of a U game. While wearing a costume.

Less than 8 minutes, Iwata's hair shall be tossed.

And the conference will go for about 80 minutes.

Hey guys what's going on in here? Oh, a discussion in the naming conventions of the Mario franchise and what that absolutely certainly means this next game is going to be like? Ok then.

The space shtick in galaxy is one thing that has gotten old to me. Still fun but that whole SHTICK, ya know.

Would "gimmick" also suffice? :p~~~

Truthfully, I adore this schtick. I'd love another 3 games in space, with perhaps larger planetoid bodies. That'd be my main request. And perhaps being granted the power of flight earlier in the game would be appreciated.

I'll give you the punch punch kick.

But I abused the fuck out of Mario's dive in 64 and Sunshine. And his jump kick. And his slide kick.

Also, while useless, I thought crawling and falling asleep were a nice touch in Mario 64. Why would they ditch those in future games? :3

Now this is FAR more interesting than Mario talk!

God help me I can't handle much more of this!

I'm just glad Nintendo doesn't spend half the conference on sales, anymore.
Or at least, they haven't for a few years.
They barely touch it, in fact.

Nintendo's user content titles were miserable failures, weren't they? Jam with the Band, Wario Ware DIY?

I miss them. Super Mario 64 is simply more fun to play because of the freedom of movement and expression the game gives you. No other 3D platformer has matched it.

I cannot give a honest opinion because I never really got into the game. It just didn't age to well and by today's standards it feels just a bit outdated. I felt a bit lost in the levels. So for a real judgement I can only take SMS's controls into consideration - comparing those to the ones in SMG I did not miss anything. The 360° move or the side-jump wouldn't have added anything.

I've always imagined it had something to do with the standard of quality that Nintendo holds for Mario titles. By releasing a level editor, the company is essentially giving up some control over the quality of levels that people play. It's actually a bit similar to a franchise in the business world: Unless the franchise is able to strictly dictate terms to franchisees, it takes a risk on sub-par experiences harming its brand image.

Reggie will start it off, make a 3DS game announcement. Hand off to Iwata, who will talk philosophy on bringing the home console experience out of the television and into your hands. Reggie takes the stage briefly for a "developer reactions" montage, then to introduce Miyamoto, who won't demo a game but will introduce Pikmin United. Reggie comes back, casually mentions that the system is the most powerful console in history or something vague like then, then introduces an unexpected but popular developer to talk about their lazy port attempt. Back to the Regginator for a very long rundown of the extended, non-game features of the system (like universal control of all your kitchen appliances or "watch any video ever made instantly" or whatnot). Then a third party video montage.

Then rails will shift to upcoming 3DS games (and charts) for a while. After this, Reg will do a "one last thing", but it'll be a game that we kinda sorta expected but were really hoping for.

There will be no Feel Screen (electrostatic haptics) or TimeSplitters 4. I will cry.

I suspect that Miyamoto will be pretty reserved and that Iwata will barely flick, at best. The presentation will have a more "professional" feel to it with less of the silliness we're hoping for. The next day, we'll actually get a few kiloton game announcements -- let's say two for the Wii U, one for the 3DS (this one could be megaton-level, like the always lusted after FF7 remake).

tl;dr: Solid but unspectacular, saved partly by announcements afterward. It's okay, though, since Sony's conference will be a clusterfuck, and Microsoft will sort of just cruise by with some promises about their next-year hardware but not much in the way of playable next generation software.

I DEMAND TO BE SURPRISED TO YAMAUCHI-HELL and back.

Nintendo booth is going to be a freaking fortress before E3 opens the gates.

We still have a month before we can say we're a few weeks away.
