What's the best case out there I can get with Amazon Prime? I sent my Bear Motion one back because it was defective. The right bottom stuck out and was unprotected.

Just called Applecare and got AppleCare+ for my iPad. Feels good man.

I am wondering the same thing.

Arggh..I have this tiny mark on my screen. I think my Smart Cover picked up some random debris when I set the iPad down and made the mark when I tried to clean the screen by rubbing it with the Smart Cover...sigh

That happened to me too with my old iPad 2.
I've stopped using a cover that directly touches the screen since that.
Maybe the screen is now a bit dirtier, but I get more peace of mind this way.

Going to take back the 16gb wifi version today along with the smart cover and get a 32 gb wifi.

I like the smart cover, but I need a case that serves as a decent stand in landscape mode. The smart cover stand is good for a table, but isn't stable enough for my lap or when I am laying in bed.

What's a good folio style cover that has working magnets for the IPAD 3 and is a good stand?

I'm a fan of the Maroo Moko case.

Just connect it, tell iTunes you want to manually manage music and videos, turn off syncing for everything else too like contacts and what have you, make sure it does not sync the apps and then click apply.

You can custom set iTunes to sync just what you want and it'll even warn you if you're already syncing calendars, contacts, etc. from iCloud. It's simple as can be and actually pretty hard to mess up.

Thanks guys. Did the sync last night and looks like everything went fine.

I got the Bear Motion case when it was 20 bucks at Amazon. Good quality for the price.

It looks like Flunkie had some issues with it. Yours is fine? Do the magnets work to shut off/turn on the screen? Is the stand stable enough to stand on its while you use it? The angle looks kind of steep in the pictures, but the base seems bigger than the smart cover "stand" base.

1. Yes, the magnets work great and the smart cover feature never misses a beat even if I open and close it repeatedly to make it screw up.
2. The stand is extremely stable to stand on its own given that you have a surface that's close to flat, since the center of weight will be close to the ipad since the case is light. Can't see how it can be done any more stable without adding a bunch of weight to the base, which I would not want.
3. Also, the right bottom corner edge is not covered because that's where the speaker is, so you can hear something, just like how the top right side is so you can access the buttons.

Yeah I'm thinking that I'm going to refrain from cleaning the screen with my smart cover now. Bleh

I've had my new iPad for a few weeks but just plugged it in to my desktop PC for the first time today. When I did, iTunes only seemed to allow me to "set up new iPad" or "restore from backup" (of my iPod touch.) I wanted to do neither, and just add music/etc. manually. What can I do?

Edit: Answered my own question. "Set up new" doesn't erase anything.

Me likey this case - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007CKLCSK/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Holds the device like a vice grip, the easel stand works great and the padding is nice and seems like it will protect the device. I've been using it for a few weeks now without any complaints save for a missing stylus holder. God damn you, Draw Something! (shakes fist)

I considered getting that case but then read a review that says you can't fold the cover all the way back flat so I decided against it. Is that true?

3. I had the Bear Motion for the iPad 2 and loved it. However, mine had a flaw in that the right bottom leather strap dipped lower than it should have, and allowed it to move around and the bottom right of my iPad to stick out beyond the protection. The one I got also felt a lot stiffer than I remember my old one being, even after a week of heavy use. I got the Bear Motion again as a safe bet, and since I had to send it back, I took it as an opportunity to see if I find a different one that I like better.

I might just order another Bear Motion, though. :\ I have an hour to decide if I want it here by tomorrow w/ Prime.

This looks great, except for the stupid strap in the front. I feel like it would annoy the hell out of me. Looking for magnets.

Gah, ordered another Bear Motion. Might go ahead and just get the other one too, why not? I'll just return it if need be. Amazon makes returning shit so easy.

Anyone ever use the Pixelskin HD Wrap for the iPad? There was one for the 2, and it looks like the new one is coming out now.

Looking for something to cover the back (I'm just not comfortable with the aluminum surface) but dont want to add too much bulk/weight. Looks like a nice version of the back cover/smart cover combination.

the strap on the front flap stays out of the way if you're not using it, and it does support the smart cover function on the new iPad.

i'm such an accessory whore for this device. i've a couple of different styluses and types of folio cases on order to see which i prefer. the rest will go to friends as gifts. i'm already pleased with a knockoff AluPen i purchased off Amazon for $5. it's the only capacitive pen i've tried that doesn't require a lot of pressure to activate the screen.

is it better for lifetime battery if I have the device plugged in while using it most of the time? I am in a setup where I can have it plugged in like 80% of the time but want to make sure that's a good idea; I'm pretty sure it is. Actually using the battery is what weakens it over time, right?

I thought for laptops, leaving it plugged in all the time lessens the effectiveness of the battery...not sure if this is the case for iPads though. I really don't think it matters too much though.

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down). Will keep the battery healthy.

There's a charge cycle. Let it die once a month and you maximize the life of the battery. Leaving it plugged in should be okay.

At least, that's what I read and interpered on Apple's website. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It seems that the replacement iPad that I picked up on Tuesday has solved my battery issues. I had been seeing a 1-2% drop in battery life every how the device was in standby mode, which meant each morning I'd wake up to find I'd lost about 8-10% of battery overnight. After picking up the new iPad, syncing it and setting up identically to my old one, I did a complete power cycle (emptied battery and recharged overnight) and today I've had it off the charger for nearly six hours and it hasn't lost a single percentage point yet.

Awesome for you. It makes me wonder what hardware differences/malfunctions can cause that though.

I have betrayed Android.

My wife called me today and said "I got my bonus! It was more than I thought it would be. Go get an iPad." So yay! The screen is gorgeous.

I've got Garage Band & ArtRage. Now the app search begins in earnest.

I heard someone on a podcast mention a picture that highlights the new iPad's massive resolution.

They claimed it showed most other devices (Kindle, popular phones, Vita, etc) fitting within the resolution of the new iPad.

Does such an image actually exist?

Well I found this one with a quick search: http://i.imgur.com/xvUgZ.png
Doesn't have that stuff ln there, but for comparison Vita is 960x544 from what I can tell, while most current tablets are in the 1024-1366x768 range iirc, and bigger phones are at 1280x720 I think.

Just got my new iPad... gorgeous, however, waiting for ALL my apps to sync is ridiculous. Won't let me choose which apps or music goes on it first? Just autofills? I really, really don't like that. But after this that won't happen I understand... just nitpicking the lame setup. Otherwise it's great. I got a 16GB white but I am probably going back to exchange it for a 32 in a couple weeks 'cause I really wanted the black one!

Damn. If you forget to charge the iPad when you go to sleep it only lasts like 15 minutes the next day.

How much charge did you have the night before? less than 10%? 5%?

I only lose a percent or two a day if it sits unused. that’s how it’s supposed to work.

...hate me...
Yeah, the iPad has always been ridiculously good at conserving battery power when not in use.

But the new one's charging time is a bit of a problem when you forget to charge it. Because a quick charge while you shower and eat your breakfast doesn't quite do the same anymore.

Oh well, in 2 years I'll replace this piece of crap with an iPad that will be faster changing (less power consuming -> smaller battery) and hence lighter, thinner (than the iPad 2!) HD front camera, laminated screen, loads of RAM, huge storage, insert some shit that I can't predict here, and all around just perfect *drools* hehe

Is this weird scrolling effect an iOS 5 thing, or a new iPad thing? Anytime I scroll a full page width element it has like a rubbery/elastic effect. Hard to explain but basically if I had a horizontal line and scrolled the line would get distorted to where it's not perfectly horizontal anymore (during scrolling).
Going up and down on mobile GAF site continuously without lifting your finger exaggerates the effect so you can see what I'm talking about.

I always get excited when I see the update bubble on the iPad, hoping for a retina update

Where's my water just had one, but no retina update to go along with it :(

WOW, I just got both the Bear Motion and Moko in, and the Moko is blowing me away. Sturdy as hell, aesthetically amazing. The ONLY knock is no stand. It's either open or closed. Otherwise, I LOVE it.

Edit: Also noticed I used CAPS way too much in that sentence, lol.

I also use a Bearmotion leather case and I think it is fantastic! I have had one from my iPad 2 (iPad 2 version works perfect with iPad 3 still) and can't recommend it enough.

Sometimes when I just see my iPad laying around I can't believe how fucking cool it is. Just got home and found it laying in my laundry basket.
