Sony is teasing a game reveal on 4/19 "Will vengeance bring redemption?"

If its Santa Monica then a console game is pretty much guaranteed, they are always pushing tech as much as possible.

That is precisely the reason why they should aim for Vita. They have pretty much shown us the limits of PS3 and now they can inspire others by showing what's possible on the Vita (this early on).

GOW3 was their first work on PS3. I really want to see what they can pull off on their second try. This might be their "Uncharted 2".

I hope it's not for Vita.

God of War 3 cost $60m, God of War 3 was in development for 3 years, this project will be in development for 3 years. At best, it will cost $50m and that's excluding a possibility that SSM expanded. Again, not happening for Heavenly Sword.

That's not the point. There needs to be concrete evidence of the existence of GoW4 before you can base a conjecture on it.

I'd assume one of their teams is already working on PS4 prototype.

Agree with TTP. I need to see that engine work its magic once more. GoWIII is without question the best looking console game to date.

I really want GoW4 but it feels like GoW4 will be a E3 reveal (unless sony have several Megatons for E3)

HS2 is more likely and id welcome it with open arms

Well, the GOW3 E3 reveal was not the first time we saw GOW3. A trailer came out before that.

The same might happen again with GOW4.

Trailer on 4/19.
Live demo at E3 2012.

It was great as a concept, good as a game. It had some substantial issues but was one of the more technologically advanced games to come out with one of the best facial animation (mo-cap) and voice acting to this day.

I remember having sore fingers thanks to the number of times I'd keep clicking the replay button when the first GoW3 trailer came out.

I know its not up to them but in the behind the scenes vids of GOW3 the Santa Monica ppl really sounded like they didn't want to work on another GOW any time soon.

I'd assume one of their teams is already working on PS4 prototype.

I didn't say they are making God of War (although there's a very high probability of that being true), but we can safely dismiss the possibility of the main SSM team doing Heavenly Sword.

Let us review the facts:
1) Last SSM project that lasted for 3 years (God of War 3) cost $60m.
2) Their next project, if we assume Q1 2013 release, will last for 3 years.
3) God of War 3 sold 1.1m first month in NA alone.
4) Heavenly Sword did around 1.5m LTD. (http://www.vg247.com/2010/03/29/ninja-theory-heavenly-sword-sales-still-not-enough-to-break-even)
5) God of War is one of Sony's top IPs and they have a very strong incentive to grow it further, especially given the fact that it's popular in the US, which is rare for Sony's IP.

Given all the facts, I think it's safe to say that the next SSM game will not be based on Heavenly Sword IP.

Let me preface by saying that I have yet to complete GoW3.

Now, let me ask you all these 2 questions:

Are you guys really asking for another GoW so soon? Don't you think the devs should do something different?

It's not the greatest game of this generation, but it's still quite good: nice graphics, good characters, stellar animation (facial animation in particular; something Ninja Theory went on mastering with Enslaved), even the combat system is quite fun if not extremely complex. You just have to get past the first level, when Nariko and Kai defend the castle: it's a bit boring, and the game gets WAY better after that.
I had a really good time playing it, never understood all the hate. HS2 would be most welcome.

All I'm asking for is a "new" GOW that actually feels "new". That's why I really want this to be GOW4. Having an engine already to build upon, they can focus more on expanding gameplay this time around (while still improving on the engine to deliver more awesomeness).

Besides, it's not like the market is flooded with GOW-like games. We actually need more of those!

gow 3 budget was $44m. gt 5 had a budget that high.

God of War 4: Revengence.

can it even be anything else?

new mythology (either with a new main character, or kratos, actually going into other mythologies and killing them) I have
a really bad feeling that stupid rumour is true :( (kratos goes to hades to rescue his brother)

So soon? It's been a couple years. I haven't played another game this gen that had the same level of visual polish and amazing bosses as gow3. So yeah, I want more of that.

Sounds like some shit you'd expect related to God of War. But considering the latest one came out like a month ago, and it was supposedly the end of the trilogy, I guess that option's out the window.

It's a bland piece of shit. You haven't missed out on anything.

Efit: Jesus, you already bought it. My sincere condolences.

What?

Would Sony make a sequel to Heavenly Sword? I mean the game didn't sell that well, correct?

Might as well take the character and make it a new IP at this point.

I don't know specific numbers, but according to Ninja Theory, HS was not profitable for them.

Hey, one can dream right? I would love to see what the "big boys" at Sony could do on Vita (Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, etc)

Why the hell would anyone think that GOW4 by SSM would be on the Vita? They spent all those years building their PS3 engine to only make one game for it and then move onto Vita and PS4? Yeah, ok. That's fucking crazy talk.

SSM is going to make another game on PS3, not on the Vita.

There's a slight possibility of dual PS3/Vita release.

I'm not going to say that's impossible. Crazier things have happened, but I wouldn't bet on it. Who would buy the Vita version when the PS3 one would be clearly superior? Especially since at this point in the Vita's life, I'm betting a majority of owners own a PS3 as well.

Not so long ago there were rumours suggesting Santa Monica was working on the Heavenly Sword IP. I would be pleasantly surprised if that has been the case...Not that another impressive GOW is not wanted!

I would also be down with a new Heavenly Sword. I actually really liked the first game. I still would prefer a new God of War series with Norse mythology though.

I would love for this to be about Heavenly Sword 2. Heavenly Sword was good, and it had a lot of potential. I could deal without anymore twing twang and screen tearing, though. Plus, the whole last battle was just a mess. Having the title in capable hands like that of Sony Santa Monica would mean it wouldn't suffer from the same issues the first game did. With that said, I doubt Heavenly Sword 2 is happening, and this game reveal is most likely God of War 4.

I'm assuming it's God of War, even if HS2 would be more interesting. A revenge story doesn't really narrow it down though, because that covers about 90% of all action games. :p

If it's Heavenly Sword 2, I will be very happy, I mean, we all know that God of War 4 will happen eventually, but do we really know if an almost obscure IP like Heavenly Sword will have a sequel? Not really, specially since it has potential.

doesn't that actually make some sense? someone earlier in this thread said that SSM had two teams now, the senior one moved on to ps4 and new ip or gow4, and the younger team makes heavenly sword 2 so they can prove themselves :D
