This is the biggest risk they took in my opinion and i'm afraid that many people (especially reviewers) will look negative at the game just because they may had a bad experience with the pawns.
Personally i think it adds more to the game's realism but i'm afraid some may not "get it".This was a huge risk.
My guess is that there's some numerical factor to their growth. Kill such and such enemy X amount of times and their knowledge base increases. Though now I'm curious as to if hired pawns can learn while they are in your party, since we know that they don't level up with you and your main pawn...
^Yeah they have confirmed that the pawns you hire can learn tactics and enemy patterns.
I think that the first time you fight a particular enemy your main pawn will also try some trial and error tactics, learning from the enemy paterns as well as your character actions so the next time you fight this particular enemy your pawn behaviour will be improved, and the fight will be easier.

I want weather effects...
the whole point of lending out your pawn to others is so that they could learn about different monsters & stuff and come back with with the knowledge to help you out.
Any word on the PC version? Me and a couple of friends really want to play it on our rigs.

I have a feeling the pawns are just there to help you kill faster, but it's hard to tell.
I mean if your pawns die, you will need to solo the rest of the dungeon yourself until you find a rift stone... so... it has to be possible to solo, lol. Which means the pawns aren't exactly "mandatory".

Haha, probably. Maybe I just expect too much of this game.
I would be somewhat fine with that as long as that doesnt translate to night. Daytime, you can survive, just barely, without your pawns. Night time though? Youd be fucked
Yeah, I don't know, it all sounds so sophisticated the more you think about it. The balancing issue is definitely something to think about, because they said you actually get more exp from having lower level pawns, things like that..

I wouldn't mind a snowy area as dlc.
I haven't looked forward to a game as much as this in a long time. April will be taken up with The Witcher 2 and May will be dedicated to Dragon's Dogma.
THESIS BE DAMNED.
Here's my attempt at making a smoother maelstrom gif. My first animated gif ever!
Wonder if weather will actually mess up the enemy weakness system if they put it in, those mobs weak against fire will be strong as fuck in the rain =P

It's just a skill demonstration. The sound design is awesome too, though. What video is this one from?
I didn't know anything about this game, but I immediately knew it was Capcom when I saw that.
Dude lit himself him and threw himself at a boss! What more do you want from the game

They most-likely won't bring it to PC.
It's the GT live thing usually recorded for people to watch later?.
they usually put MT games on PC and last year they released Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record{not mt title) on PC,and they actually said if there is a demand for DD they will think about it.
however, they still uses that failed abortion called GFWL on all of their pc games so DD on PC is already useless.
The more I watch the more I realize I'm probably going to have to have 3 characters that end up as the 3 hybrid classes at some point.
I hope that the fact that there's no multi means there's also no GFWL...
oh who the fuck am I kidding.
Yeah Batman AA and Fallout 3 were single player only yet they also got GFWL. ( must secure the holy sacred achievements system I guess).
The only non GFWL capcom PC game this gen was Lost Planet: Extreme Condition ( it has GFW logo and Steamwork) but they went GFWL with Lost Planet: Colonies.
My bad if it's already been mentioned, but some of us press got a new preview build of the game before the weekend and our coverage embargo lifts in 45 minutes. That includes direct-feed video capture. I'll have about 25 minutes worth of clips uploaded myself. Stay tuned.

Were you able to explore (and record video) outside of the areas that Capcom have shown so far?
I wasn't given any notes on how long or short this build would be. I've only put in 4 hours into this build, but I'll keep going until the build ends or when Capcom sends a review build in May.
I haven't kept up with the Capcom vids. Do they show a lot of underground questing? That's what ended up focusing on.
That isnt to say that Dragons Dogma is easy, far from it. There are areas where you will be punished for exploring early, you can fight valiantly but ultimately the sheer number and variety of foes attacking you will mean youll die, restart and be forced to think about taking an alternate path. Some enemies do appear to be never ending, with some sleight of hand happening when you finally clear an area, only to find one more enemy, who will summon more mobs to force you into submission. Again though, even these tricky areas can be tackled with some clever pawn tactics and use of the fluid, exciting combat systems.
