Dragon's Dogma Fence Sitters - Footage You Need to See

This is the biggest risk they took in my opinion and i'm afraid that many people (especially reviewers) will look negative at the game just because they may had a bad experience with the pawns.
Personally i think it adds more to the game's realism but i'm afraid some may not "get it".This was a huge risk.

I think the good reviewers will understand how to deal with the pawns (swapping out pawns that are useless etc.). Chances are they won't be good enough to notice the AI's shortcomings if everything seems to be going smoothly, but for people who want to beat monsters as efficiently/quickly as possible it might be more of a problem. It's always a problem in party based RPGs if you can only control your main guy and the rest are AIs, but depending on the system it may or may not matter as much. The FFXIII party AI wasn't all that bright when it came to healing/buffing for instance, but I think that could have been remedied if they had some kind of FFXII-esque gambit system in place. It worked for the most part though, and I'm not sure if reviewers even caught onto it's faults or if they were to busy bashing the corridors, but I'm sure players who understood the system noticed it pretty quickly. Different kind of RPG, but you get the picture. It's all a matter of how well it's implemented into the game at hand.

My guess is that there's some numerical factor to their growth. Kill such and such enemy X amount of times and their knowledge base increases. Though now I'm curious as to if hired pawns can learn while they are in your party, since we know that they don't level up with you and your main pawn...

^Yeah they have confirmed that the pawns you hire can learn tactics and enemy patterns.

I think that the first time you fight a particular enemy your main pawn will also try some trial and error tactics, learning from the enemy paterns as well as your character actions so the next time you fight this particular enemy your pawn behaviour will be improved, and the fight will be easier.

I'm just hoping they don't make too many bad decisions. If they act according to a numerical factor, the risk would be that they act the same way, or similarily, every time you meet said monster. I guess that would suffice for most, but if they repeatedly keep making poor decisions even though you want them to do something else entirely it's a whole different story. I personally hope there is some sense of control to your pawn's growth as opposed to just killing the same monster over and over. Skill choices seem to be one such form of control though, but we'll see, I guess.

Any word on the PC version? Me and a couple of friends really want to play it on our rigs.

the whole point of lending out your pawn to others is so that they could learn about different monsters & stuff and come back with with the knowledge to help you out.

I know, but we were talking about your hired pawns. And as sublimit already confirmed, they do learn with you, which is a relief. Nothing would be more frustrating than having a hired pawn made useless by its inability to help you through an area, even after fighting the same enemy a multitude of times...

Unfortunately, for launch or anywhere near it, it's not going to happen. Trust me, I've tried like mad to make this happen.

But being this is a MT Framework game, check again in 6 months.

Whoever makes the OT should have a place for coordinating pawns, or maybe even a separate thread to put usernames up along with pawns and a list of their skills/knowledge.

Would be an easy way to make effectual parties rather than looking for random pawns. Having a little database here would help everyone.

I have a feeling the pawns are just there to help you kill faster, but it's hard to tell.

I mean if your pawns die, you will need to solo the rest of the dungeon yourself until you find a rift stone... so... it has to be possible to solo, lol. Which means the pawns aren't exactly "mandatory".

Haha, probably. Maybe I just expect too much of this game.

I would be somewhat fine with that as long as that doesnt translate to night. Daytime, you can survive, just barely, without your pawns. Night time though? Youd be fucked

Yeah, I don't know, it all sounds so sophisticated the more you think about it. The balancing issue is definitely something to think about, because they said you actually get more exp from having lower level pawns, things like that..

Edit: Night time does sound dangerous with Phantoms too, status ailments and other stuff will probably require a pawn or two to help you out

Yea, balancing will definitely be tricky, but I dont think they have to make it perfect or try to make it perfect if it were a mmorpg or some sort of online multiplayer game. I am sure some classes will be able to solo easier than others and be more powerful than others, and pawns who are those classes will be in more demand, but I think that is not a HUGE issue so long as the gap isnt enormous.

So long as no class is able to solo night time, and no class can easily solo daytime, I will be fine with the balancing

Wonder if weather will actually mess up the enemy weakness system if they put it in, those mobs weak against fire will be strong as fuck in the rain =P

I haven't looked forward to a game as much as this in a long time. April will be taken up with The Witcher 2 and May will be dedicated to Dragon's Dogma.

THESIS BE DAMNED.

Oh cool, so I'll wait then, it's going to be tedious though, seeing everyone already playing it.
Hopefully it will run smoothly like DMC4 at 120fps.

HAwkian, nice gif.

I love how everything you need to know about the game is in the game as in you don't need to to check out a FAQ to do quests or whatever as NPCs, etc give you hints or information about the quest. Makes it seem more adventurous.

Also the OT has to include some crazy gif(s). Maybe that maelstrom gif!

Ah, looks great. Now we need one with the meteor spell knocking the Griffin out of the sky. The footage was near the end of stream 2. Looks so amazing how instead of some flaming stones falling straight down from the top of the screen, you actually see blazing meteors streaking in at an angle from a distance out of the atmosphere.

The more I watch the more I realize I'm probably going to have to have 3 characters that end up as the 3 hybrid classes at some point.

I didn't know anything about this game, but I immediately knew it was Capcom when I saw that.

They most-likely won't bring it to PC. :(

they usually put MT games on PC and last year they released Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record{not mt title) on PC,and they actually said if there is a demand for DD they will think about it.

however, they still uses that failed abortion called GFWL on all of their pc games so DD on PC is already useless.

I hope that the fact that there's no multi means there's also no GFWL...

oh who the fuck am I kidding.

Is it possible for our characters to become any hybrid class we want regardless of what basic class we choose first?
I'm a bit confused and i really want my character to become a mystic knight at some point lol.

Yeah Batman AA and Fallout 3 were single player only yet they also got GFWL. ( must secure the holy sacred achievements system I guess).

The only non GFWL capcom PC game this gen was Lost Planet: Extreme Condition ( it has GFW logo and Steamwork) but they went GFWL with Lost Planet: Colonies.

Devil May Cry 4, Bionic Commando, Dark Void and MotoGP 08 aren't either but yeah, the recent stuff is always GFWL.

Still, I'd take a GFWL version over none at all. In the meantime I'll enjoy the gifs. *sigh*

My bad if it's already been mentioned, but some of us press got a new preview build of the game before the weekend and our coverage embargo lifts in 45 minutes. That includes direct-feed video capture. I'll have about 25 minutes worth of clips uploaded myself. Stay tuned.

Were you able to explore (and record video) outside of the areas that Capcom have shown so far?

I wasn't given any notes on how long or short this build would be. I've only put in 4 hours into this build, but I'll keep going until the build ends or when Capcom sends a review build in May.

I haven't kept up with the Capcom vids. Do they show a lot of underground questing? That's what ended up focusing on.

I think that they may have shown some of that in one of the PAX streams. But they didn't spend a lot of time exploring.

Anyone know when videogamer brings the next video of the playthrough?

[edit]
Plus a pawn question. Will the main pawn automatically be made available online for other players to use, or do I have to do something specific (like go into an inn and/or set the main pawn into online mode when I exit the game)?

New previews!

That isn’t to say that Dragon’s Dogma is easy, far from it. There are areas where you will be punished for exploring early, you can fight valiantly but ultimately the sheer number and variety of foes attacking you will mean you’ll die, restart and be forced to think about taking an alternate path. Some enemies do appear to be never ending, with some sleight of hand happening when you finally clear an area, only to find one more enemy, who will summon more mobs to force you into submission. Again though, even these tricky areas can be tackled with some clever pawn tactics and use of the fluid, exciting combat systems.

CRAP, I misread the embargo sheet. It's 8AM PST. Sorry about the tease.

Edit: Oh, neat. At least those UK previews in the post above will help pass the time.
