The Light of El Cantare
Well, you'd think so, but no one has really finalized a streaming model that, you know, makes money.

Profitability certainly isn't keeping it from becoming the preferred method of legal anime consumption!

Maybe both methods will ultimately die.

The resolution isn't really the main factor in visual style and presentation though. In terms of motion, visual design, and scene layout, E7 is one of the top-tier TV shows out there. I really don't think E7AO is "better" just because it is widescreen and available in a higher resolution.

This is E7 ep2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J95y8nJ9-7M

Come on.

I actually like the German dub for this lol.

Anyway it's not just because it's widescreen/higher resolution, the presentation is cleaner and the colors come through more vibrantly. I'm also not saying in anyway E7 is bad. In motion and visual design I would give the approval to AO. The tarp burning scene/shooting through the carrier is amazing and the whole fight sequence is absolutely gorgeous. I would give the scene layout to E7 though mostly because the directing and cinematography for that episode altogether was great.

Eureka7 Ao 2

While the OP looks great visually, the song used does absolutely nothing for me. SHOUNEN HAATO this is not.

Having said that, the episode itself was fuckawesome. Seriously, it was non-stop badassery from start to finish with some amazing mecha action and the music remains spectacular. There's still no equivalent to Storywriter but I'll be damned if I'm not impressed anyway. It's increasingly becoming my most hyped show this season.

The disappointment when shit inevitably goes off the rails is bound to be amazing now.

Also, Elena's kitty helmet made me think of cajun.

I don't know where you're getting this "anime girls" thing from.
It's Marika herself, specifically. The "high school girl space pirate."
Gruier's line was, "It would be utterly beneath Captain Marika of the Bentenmaru to be seen in a suit and pants!"
The key words are "Captain Marika of the Bentenmaru"
The people she walks past at the space station even comment, "She really is a high school girl!"
Outside knowledge is relevant in as much as the original novel had skirts in the title, which hasn't come up in dialog in the TV series, but even still the idol-like image of a high school girl pirate stands on its own.
There's absolutely no reason why she shouldn't wear pants, particularly when trying to disguise herself... as I said before, Gruier's statement doesn't make sense. I guess you mean that people identify her as the highschool girl space pirate, so she has to dress in a school uniform all the time? What? But when not in school plenty of anime schoolgirls dress in other things, including pants...

(Also, of course, only in a place with mandatory uniforms like Japan would you get a concept like "high school girl equals skirt".)

Oh, cool, so now Emiya's stupidity
killed Archer.

What the fuck.
Well sure.
Archer's morally inferior, so he had to go!

Wooooo! Being a Full Member feels good, baby!

Thanks for torturing coddling me all these months AnimeGaf.
Congratulations for managing to not get banned despite making several thousand posts as a junior member, I guess....

I dunno man, Angel Beats doesn't try and do a faux-fish eye camera thing.
Yeah, that Maken-Ki shot is worse for sure.

I would agree with the assessment that it's a comedy from what I've seen so far, but the build up to the punch lines is drama and the punch line itself is often the contrast with the dramatic or creepy elements. For me at least it winds up not really delivering on either end.
No, as I said, it's really a drama at heart. Yuuko likes to keep the tone light whenever she can, but the underlying tragedy behind the series frequently shows through. This was shown well in episode two, which did a good job of setting up, and beginning, the drama central to the plot, while also having some comedy too.

and for the monocles

Upotte!! is fun for the entire family
Huh... cool.

Pretty sure the drab colour usage is intentional, to make the rainbows and other parts much more vibrant.

well not really...yet
Jarmel, you are a bit over excited.

Animation wise, the best episodes of E7 smoke almost anything made for TV in the last several years, if not more, both in art and animation. Its easy to let the fact that it was SD and 4:3 cloud your judgement, but when E7 looked good...it looked REALLY, REALLY good.

I'm listening to the latest ANNcast and they are discussing Polar Bear Cafe. They cannot figure out who is at home to watch the show at 5:30PM. They bring up housewives. I...I don't understand how people can be this oblivious to the existence of children.

Well, it IS the ANNCast...
Keiji Gotoh: he killed Penguin Drum, and now he's going to kill Anime-GAF.

Someone must stop him.

Regulus Tera

Romanes Eunt Domus
The Melons of the Woman Named Fujiko Mine 03

Not as good as the previous two episodes, but still very classy. I was thoroughly impressed with how the CGI-train was integrated. Maybe it was only the filter, but it didn't look out of place at all!

Gratuitous nudity is gratuitous. 2 > 1 > 3

It did but this episode was absolutely amazing visually. The choreography was easily on par with the original series. I'm currently rewatching the original on BD and this is without a doubt on par.

I fully expect this show to tank later like every other Bones anime-original production but so far they've done a fantastic job.

Loved tsuritama 2! Haru is moe.

lol, I get the feeling people are going to think this show is in its 'introduction phase' for 3/4 of its run. Appreciate it for what it is now!

Tsuritama might have a plot one day, but I really can't be certain.

I think what might be affecting the perception that AO looks better is that there are REALLY nice backgrounds in AO, and they're pretty detailed, and stand out more overall when an episode takes place in various locations of the island. That aspect, I'll say AO wins hands down, but that's because in general BONES has been improving their background sourcing over the years. If you compare say E7 with RahXephon, you see a huge improvement already. Same if you compare Xam'd with E7. AO looks on par with Xam'd in that aspect.

But in terms of actual animation and visual design, there are tons of places where E7 really excels and it's really silly to say two episodes in that it looks better than E7. I think it's to E7AO's credit that they made such a boring battle on paper end up great looking and really exciting in practice. But for it to really reach the levels of E7's high points, we need to see great battles later on where we really care about both the heroes and the villains, and there are serious stakes on the table both emotionally and visually.

I'll give you that. We'll have to see if they can maintain this level as well as if the villains are choreographed nicely also. They also might tone down the surfing motions once the show is literally higher in the air.

I'm just comparing the first two episodes in both shows and visually AO to me is much more striking on multiple levels. E7 had a shitload of very very high points so we'll see how AO compares to those down the road.

E7 AO needs a episode as good as 26 animation-quality wise first, before we start arguing about whether one looks better or not.:)
They've got to save the world from something.
To be fair - Tsuritama is Nakamura's first (err second) show that has a serialized plot structure for the whole series, both mononoke and trapeze were episodic in nature.

It's being sold in 12 BD volumes, so it could theoretically be as low as 24 episodes.

Why...why so many episodes? I guess it;s hard to contain the episode Sengoku storyline in 12 or less.
I remember when someone recently said that Brain's Base was the best anime studio these days. I bet he's feeling pretty silly now!

Well, eventually you have to start cranking out shows that actually make money.

E7 AO 2

I came for the Omigawa and stayed for almost everything else. It's a shame that the OP's so forgettable. Saying that I'm glad that this has so far turned out to be pretty damn good. Hopefully they can keep this up!

My moneys on the VR training.

It wasn't just the animation in ep26 though. It was how everything came together perfectly. It was the mid-series climax. The conclusion of a long character arc that had been running for many episodes. The big event battle where characters from all over are brought together. And to top all that off they put in the best production values possible to ensure it was as good as it could be and as satisfying as it can be in terms of direction, animation, writing, etc.

But... but... someone told me any episode of Angel Beats was better than anything in Eureka 7! Did AnimeGaf lie to me?!

I will never forget. Brains Base, the studio responsible for Kamichu and Kure-nai, plus a shitload of the industry's best mecha designers, all collaborating on a brand new original mecha anime series!

And then he decides to make all the fucking mechs CG. :(

I WILL NEVER FORGET, OR FORGIVE. :(

At least they haven't sunk as badly as Manglobe.

That's why there's 4 seasons of Natsume. I'm surprised there hasn't been more Durarara, considering how it's by far their best-selling show.

I'd be flabbergasted if Sengoku Collection came even close to selling as much as those shows.
