People are shocked at the result of the FN.

But is my memory so hazy, because I seem to remember the FN got a monster score last election cycle?

10% in 2007, which was bad.
In 2002 they got into the second round with 16 or so %
This is their best score ever.

It's the highest score for the FN candidate in a presidential election.
Okay, I remember them getting into the second round in 2002. Le Pen vs Chirac.

Considering FN got as far as a head-to-head with the then-current French president made me believe they had a score higher than 18% in the first round. I remember lots of commotion and outrage over it.

Turns out the Socialist candidate just did exceptionally bad.

Sarkozy just asked for not one, not two, but THREE debates against François Hollande before the second round.

Oh, you cunning bastard.

Edit: Hollande only wants one.

Why so much hate Kurtofan?
Why do you despise those people instead of understanding their vote and the reasons they don't want to vote for other candidates.

You make me think of those people who think all the muslim in France are dangerous and fascists who beat their women.

People who vote for lepen are not bad and should be heard instead of pointed at like some ignorant idiots.

Marine Le Pen seems like a batshit insane individual, she has to be just as bad if not worse than a lot of the far-right loons we have here in the US right now. Hopefully she won't win.

Honestly I just don't understand how you can be open minded and even imagine voting for either Mélenchon or Le Pen. Both of their speeches tonight were downright scary. That's why I'm leaving ship, I just don't get this country.

I'm deeply concerned with the FN voters. The Republic failed if so many people are fooled by the far right.

Mélenchon is tough with the CAC 40 and the banks, but he's not scary like Le Pen.

She's out. Second round is only two candidates, and even if she made it she wouldn't have the slightest chance.

Thankfully, though I'm afraid of the evolution of the right wing electorate in the future.
Would right wingers vote for an unpopular left wing candidate against an up and coming far right candidate?2017 will be a scary year.

Edit:eek:h Le Pen beat Hollande is Corse du Sud(Southern Corsica), welp fuck my roots.

Even in Ajaccio, the capitale of Corsica.Worst island ever.

Edit: Mélenchon is second behind Sarkozy in my grandparents' village, Le Pen is not in the five first, honor is saved.

Can you imagine the shitstorm if Sarkozy gets re-elected with 50.1% of the votes? The accusations of cheating would be hilarious (and the following cohabitation after the legislative election).

I don't know how people can vote for MLP and feel like they're perfectly in phase with the République's ideals.

I mean, I'm like downright scared sometimes to be lynched when I walk alone at night when I think there is a fifth of the population (and sometimes more depending on where you live) who see you as a menace/danger/filth/terrorist/whatever.

François Bayrou's score:

Make your own simulation for the second round there: http://www.fondapol.org/qui-en-2012/simulateur-de-vote/?sondage=46147

Well it shows how 2007 was an unusual year... and that both Bayrou and Lepen (father & daughter) are on a growing curve, with Bayrou "stealing" a bunch of votes from the FN in 2007.
It would mean that most of those voices going here and there are basically contestation voices.

Well, Sarkozy really did a lot for the FN by pushing their themes. I hope 5 years of Hollande will change this (but then again even Mitterrand took profit of a strong FN, so...)

I'm open minded because what they are feeling is real and it cannot be put aside by saying it's scary and crazy...
The big parties need to evolve and hear the people. 30% of voters is huge and there are good reasons who explain that.

Kurtofan, 2017 could be a very good year if hollande do the right things.
If he do nothing and just do the same politic as Sarkozy with just gay marriage and the right to vote for strangers, things could be scary yes.

Now you are going a bit fast in your conclusions.
Not all MLP voters are racist, hate the jews or whatever you want.
That would be like saying Hollande hates France and want to erase it by allowing all the strangers to come as they want and take the nationality.

It's wrong.

I don't vote MLP but I am angry when I see people talking about her without knowing anything and then talking about democratie.
It's actually dangerous, especially when you see how she is treated on tv, by journalist and everyone. And they dare talk about democratie..

Err, the FN's core voters are really, really scary people. I know that's not all of the 20%, but it's the base of the party. The rest is far more volatile.

As a frenchman living in the US, every time I, like you, think my country is politically retarded, i just have to look here to remind myself that there is worse.

This some kind of karmic revenge for that awful Eurovision song.
The only solution is for Corsica to be given back to their rightful rulers, the Genoese.

What?
Do you understand those people feel the same as you?
It must be frightening to fn voters to walk alone by night when people see them as a menace/racist/fascist/nazi/filth/whatever.
They're not bad people and we need to stop the hate speech in both ways. If we must hate people it must be the people who are in the control of the state, not the poor who are in the minorities and feel in danger both economically and physicaly.

I agree with everything you said, bravo.

Fortunately for them, their voting opinions isn't written on their forehead.
Unfortunately for me, I'm a little bit too far from the white colour spectrum to not pass as a foreigner.

Oh I don't think she shouldn't go on TV, expose her ideas or whatever. Hell, I even thought it was scandalous in 2007 when several voting offices didn't have enough ballots for her.

That doesn't mean that her ideas do not tick me off.

Do people who want to protest really have to do so by voting for a candidate who wants to reinstate death penalty?I mean really

Yeah I'm pissed about Bayrou. People don't want to hear the bad news so they jump to the extremes.

As a frenchman living in the US, every time I, like you, think my country is politically retarded, i just have to look here to remind myself that there is worse.

Where are you in the US? I'm French-American, grew up in Seattle though recently I've been spending more time in NY.

The Republicans are worse, true. But that doesn't mean much.

Interesting to note that the MNR (other extreme right-wing party, not in existence anymore) did 2.34% in 2002... Which means the total right wing did more in 2002 than in 2012 (18.5% as of 11pm).
