How do you close an app so that it doesn't run in the background anymore?

I press home to exit, but the multitasker still shows it open

just keep pressing the back button. that's what I do.

I don't think apps use many (or any) resources when they're in the background and they're removed if needed so it's not a big deal.

there should be a way to close apps from the multitask view though. I guess we'll just have to wait for Apollo. lol.

Doesn't make it any less completely ridiculous and laughable.

Yeah. I'm sure it would make sense to completely reengineer how Skype actually works in a couple of months to get a fully functioning WP app before apollo and then ditch it when Apollo comes out with Skype integrated.

Especially when a competitor had a working app with background calls for the mango launch 6 months ago.
How exactly does that work? The toast notification :lol ?

It looks like Microsoft is working on a Windows Phone Marketplace Affiliate Program that will allow publishers to earn commission on app and games sales and it would seem that the Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace Affiliate Program is in development and participation is by invitation only. The affiliate links go through microsoftaffiliates.com website which is registered under Microsoft Corporation and affiliate links like http://www.microsoftaffiliates.com/z/1076/CD2908/ resolve to the the web marketplace http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/540af928-3c9e-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8. these links are not optimized to be viewed on Windows Phone as the links resolve to the web marketplace instead of redirecting to the Marketplace App on the phone.

According to participating members it seems that affiliates get between 8% and 12% of app purchases ( from Microsoft’s 30% cut and not from the devs 70% ) and most paid apps are available via the programme with the exception of xBox Live games ( that’s a bummer ) . It would seem some publishers are already invited to use this features eg ( improvisoft.com ) . If Microsoft is looking for more beta testers , feel free to shoot an invite our way and we look fwd to see this going public.

The Tango video calling app recently got an update to version 1.7, and as if to flaunt the fact that it supports incoming calls when not running in the background in Skype’s face, the app has added a toggle to allow users to disable this feature.

The apps is important to demonstrate that not receiving VOIP calls in the background is not a platform limitation but due to Skype’s archaic code, and provides a handy, free and cross-platform alternative to Skype if this functionality is needed.

Meh. There is already a spotify app. Microsoft should telling Facebook to get a WP Instagram app out asap

i'm curious to see what happens to instagram once its merged. If people left because of "noise" i'm unsure how its going to get any better.

Facebook said they weren't going to merge Instagram for the foreseeable future. And people didn't leave because of the noise, they left because they like to support iOS exclusive apps. (see also Instapaper/Readability drama). That's still shouldn't preclude Microsoft from adding it to the People Hub asap if they can—or just open up the hubs to third party developers... hey I'd completely forgotten about that. Does W8 even have hubs?

Fhotoroom is one of those rare 3rd party clones to a popular app that may actually be better than the original super popular app its copying. Tons of filters/effects, a surprisingly robust community with good photographers, a way more functional website that you can check from anywhere and makes sharing easier, and an easy to use app that gets a lot of updates. I see no reason to move to instagram when or if it gets here.

There's also EyeEm, which is cross platform, but I haven't messed with it so I dont know how it compares.

So, July for Apollo RTM, phones and updates for current phones (lol) in Q4 2012.

Source: WP7forum.ru (leaked new Tango features and restrictions, Nokia TV app and probably more I can't think of right now).

Waiting for another rumor to refute this :(

NeoGAF exclusive:

My sources just told me that the commercial Apollo release got delayed to Q1 2013. You have every right to be skeptical, but this source is very close to the company and highly informed about the matter. Since I got lucky predicted few things before, you gotta believe me on this one.

BRB, gonna tip the Verge.

Care to translate?

My personal predictions on WP8 upgrades

WP8 devices (Oct, Nov)
Upgrades will depend on the device and carrier
All Gen 2 devices will get an official upgrade towards the end of the 4th quarter/early 2013

Ha, I just got smoked by a Windows Phone or 'Dare to live' as it has been rebranded in the UK. Facebook challenge vs the Nokia Lumia. I was just waiting for the bus when I got approached. Giving out £20 if you beat them. No laptops!

Bigger chance that Verge prints this than the Russian rumor...

Protip for everyone: I value my employment, and would not do anything to jeopardize it.
You sound like the Skype guy i tried to get some information from last week :(

I need to get some offline sources.

So just like last year, I get to play with the latest version of windows phone over the summer. Can't wait to download the ROM and put Apollo on my phone. Especially with how easy it was to put 8107 on this thing.

Also, isn't at&t set to release the Tango update soon? I want to see if Samsung finally fixed the audio bug with the keyboard sounds.
