How do you guys wear ties outside of wearing a suit?

I only wear ties when I wear a suit, cause I always feel awkward wearing one without the suit. Should I just not wear ties outside of a suit?

I like ties. They're cool.

I figure that's the case. I see people wearing them occasionally, but their shirts are untucked and it's all loose and skinny or they have sweaters on or something.

I usually wear ties in suits... but non-traditional suits also work well. By that, I mean:

if you like them, wear them. just don't be stupid about it like you said seeing people wearing them with untucked shirts and all loose and shit. they don't need to be with a suit and don't let people tell you otherwise. just wear them smartly.

I wear ties without suits all the time. As long as everything fits right, I think it looks great. Generally get a lot of compliments as well.

My main issue with expensive watches is that I'm anal about defects and scratches so I'd never be completely comfortable with wearing a watch worth over $1000 (unless of course I turn into a millionaire and that amount money becomes poo change).

There are actually plenty of nice watches in the $300-$800 range if you look at the right brands. For example, Seiko.

Hah i was lingering on the same concerns; I work on a computer all day long where I'm constantly plugging in things, moving wires, etc. There's a high probability I'd ding my watch against a desk or along the hard edge of a USB connector or debug board. I'd curse the heavens if that happened to a watch that cost more than $500. Hmm I'll look at the Seiko's. Figures, the first link I click is the Grand Seiko collection ($4000+)

automatic watches are very nice. I simply love and cherish my Omega Seamaster. I actually quite like the look of the watch you posted, for the same reasons. I like wearing watches though and wouldn't mind spending a lot on a very nice quality piece.

With that said, you can find nice watches, even automatics, for cheaper than the $900 of that watch. It will definitely boil down to aesthetics, cost and overall quality. i do think if you want to step up your game as you seem to have interest in a watch, a nice piece will catch the eye of people always. In the 12 years I've owned my Seamaster I've gotten countless compliments on it from strangers. Watches such as fossils and other cheaper brands, while shallow to say, simply can never hold a candle to a more finely crafted piece and will barely add to your overall ensemble.

Are you a collector? Wow after looking up the Omega Seamaster collection and the prices, I don't think spending $900 is that much anymore. Those are really elegant, muscular looking watches with some impressive engineering (1000 feet water resistance, helium escape valve)! I understand the asking price. It's cool that these watches have endured through the years too. Omega Seamaster since 1947, the Junghan Max Bill since 1950's. Timeless is a perfect descriptor for these pieces. Which Seamaster do you have btw? The Seamaster 300M Chrono Diver is probably the exact opposite of the Junghan Max Bill in terms of aesthetics, but I think it's sexy as hell. I'd be proud to wear that piece with a Navy blazer and oxford blue button down.

I have this one

definitely not a collector, though I want to next purchase a Speedmaster Professional as my next huge watch purchase. But I do want something very minimalist like the one post above above as well. i just love a nice watch as an accessory to the person, not even the outfit. I can appreciate the work that goes into a nice piece.

as a side note about the durability of these watches, not that I'd recommend abusing them, but my watch has been through some rough shit and the price you pay really shows through in terms of their toughness as well as their amazing mechanical craftsmanship. They'll get some minor scuffs here and there but they won't be so noticeable and they can always be buffed out.

My seamaster is currently out for service for the next three months but I am sure it will come back looking absolutely amazing.

also, i have a dainty wrist but the watch actually isn't that large all things considered. though that chronograph above might be overkill on me.

I don't wear suits, as I'm still a college student. I've gotten really into them lately. I'll wear them with a nice dress shirt, or a nice button up. Not any plaid though. I don't do it too often, but it's really interesting.

I'm in University as well. I'm trying to make an effort into dressing better, dressing more 'up'. My first couple of years in University had me still in my high school mode of dress. I just want to make an effort to look better.

Is it possible to get unstretched leather jackets that look good? Looking for something for on the bike, and the majority of the jackets are styled like moto gp ones.

I've never really been a fan of polos, but now I have to wear one every day with khakis/slacks for work.

What are a good pair of shoes that are dressy enough for that, but not too dressy?

Can you remove the hood?

I hate hoods on leather jackets. The plaid hood also limits what you can wear with it - leather jackets are too versatile to limit like that.

My other issue is wrinkles. How do you guys deal with this? Any time I wear a brighter colored polo the whole side of it is wrinkled after my 40 minute car ride. Drives me nuts having to go through the day with a wrinkled shirt that I ironed last night.

It isn't indicated anywhere that it's removable. I bought it, but will not hesitate to return if the fit isn't right or if it isn't as appealing in person. I'm young enough that I rarely need to dress "up" at all so I'd leave the hood attached, which I like as a counterbalance to the more traditional leather jacket anyway. I'd never wear anything like a biker jacket.

Edit: To put it clearly, I'm more interested in dressing like the ASOS model than the pictures higher up the page, though those men clearly look great. Just not for me, yet.

If you're a us small-medium I have a beat up MJ collection calfskin hoodie that will make that look like poop.

Sorry for the double.

Anyone have any of the Old Navy Men's Classic Pique Polos? Are they more "fitted?" They are $10 now with 20% off your order so I was thinking of getting some.

alright, more shoes questions, this time PF Flyers from Gilt. Keep in mind that I'm replacing Jack Purcells, not going for anything super fancy. I don't necessarily need to pick just one either

I know what you mean (I just started college this last year though). I still rock the tshirt and jeans fairly often though.
SF is getting a Uniqlo, while NYC has like three stores. LA has none. Although rumor has it we're next.
Needs to hurry.

What does Gaf think of Express fitted dress shirts? I really like the fit.

The fitted 1mx works really well on my frame (6'4, 210). The quality of them is EH at best. They work well brand new, and for the first couple weeks, but the collars, cuffs and any seams start to bubble and get lines on them. However, theyre so cheap (buy 1 get one 50% off+all the free money they throw at you if you shop there ever) makes em almost worth it as layering pieces.

Yeah I love my Express fitted shirts. Now that 1MX stuff is a little too fitted, but their standard fitted is perfect. A lot of the colors on their solids are flat-out garish though, ain't really feeling that. Most of the patterned shirts are great for business casual though. Express is the only place around here that I can actually reasonably drive to and get cool clothes; otherwise I'm going online. Because of that it's just really reliable for me...I know I can go in and get a pair of pants and a shirt that fits the way I want it to, or at least decently.

EDIT: Had a business lunch a few weeks ago, bought a new blue & black stripe dress shirt and grey/blue strip tie(their ties are REALLY overpriced, but still), and had JCrew grey urban slim fit pants and my old trusty Cole Haan shiny oxfords and literally got more than a dozen compliments. It's easy 'round here though; hardly anyone else even tries.

Short sleeve button ups are fine, and polos, and if you have a half-decent body you can wear them without an undershirt. Nothing wrong with a quality solid color tee though.

i'm in texas. Polos and long sleeve button up shirts with the sleeves rolled up. For me, short sleeve button ups have always been a no-no.

you can go with the V-neck undershirt to avoid sweat stains as well as not seeing the undershirt.

no shirt, cutoff dickies shorts, sneakers if necessary. no socks. white t shirt if legally mandated.

If you can get them on sale go for it. They were running a buy one get one 50% plus they always have coupons. The material isn't the best but it's probably the best off the rack fit I find for myself.

Also, how's my spring fit?

I really like your jacket, I wanted one of the same kind and color for the spring and went searching for it some weeks ago but it's too late now (already summer here), though I might grab it for the autumn. Where did you get it?

So I bought some V-neck white t's based on comments here that you should not see the undershirt under a polo and the V is not deep enough. Bah.

Here ya go:
http://www.planeclothes.com.au/shop/comune-braydon-jacket-tan
http://needsupply.com/mens/outerwear/braydon-denim-jacket.html

Looks like it might be out of season- had a hard time finding it in stock anywhere.

I like it, I just wish the jeans had a bit more character, but if they're new nothing you can do about it right now. :(
Yeah- unfortunately, it takes me forever to break in new denim nowadays since I rarely get to wear jeans.
