Well damn.

Also if you invade and the fog ring is on can people still see you easily?

Yes. You still glow blue or red. It works better for hosts or areas where you can camouflage your glow. Dark anor londo and forest tends to work great for hosts. Darkwraiths could probably use it in lost izalith.

What's your opinion on MGS vs Claymore? Right now my Claymore is my go to weapon for PvP. Even without the sunlight buff it can combo stunlock people to death. Is the purely magic damage of the MGS enough to offset its lower attack power?

MGS and the Great Lord Greatsword are the best stunlock weapons in the game. Go 2H and just mash the R1 attack, the stunlock is godly. Claymore is just milliseconds slower and doesn't stunlock as well because of it. The 1H Thrust attack of the Claymore is amazing though.

Interesting. Might have to switch to the MGS. I like the r2 attacks that shoot out the energy beams, I actually killed a fleeing invader with it today when I was just messing around with it.

I do really like the claymore's 1h r2 thrust attack though. Very powerful, accurate, and fast. I also like the forward rolling 2h lunging stab attack. I use that to great effect against WoG spammers. Just roll through the cast and stab. Almost always stunlocks the guy so I can follow it with a combo and finish him off.

Just got indicted while being a Forest bro. Happened as soon as I killed the dude, does this mean anything bad will happen, or did I just make it on to some PvP leader board?

It means Darkmoon dudes can find you now. But in reality it doesn't mean all that much.

I disagree. I tested this on Darkwraiths in New Londo.
Going 2 hands, weapons like Zweihander and Demon Great Machete immediately stunlock them wheres GLGS has to do a second hit to stunlock.

I just beat Anor Londo's boss with my SL2 cleric character. I was surprised how amazingly well I blasted through the game without any difficulty because I usually die at least once against Gaping Dragon and Iron Golem. I grinded a bit though for materials and humanities.
Tonight I'll go to New Londo ruins and I'll see if the usually easy and fantastic boss there is still easy at SL2.
With that said, ironically playing a SL2 character is slightly harder than a SL1 because of the class and how the stats are allocated but it's still not that hard when you know the game well.
People usually do a SL1 run but I am doing a SL2 run because I want to make a dex/faith build later in NG+.
Another interesting fact is that this run toughs me how well playing without a shield is! It's interesting and very satisfying to destroy everything without using a shield.

I can't believe that I have been playing this fuckin game since it's release and I still enjoying it and discovering new things *sigh*

Sullichin, if you have time, I can help you to beat 4K now.

Fuck this bullshit

I'm at the boos at anor londor and its complete bullshit. Sometimes they kill me before I can even get one shot in. I'm using claymore +10 lightning, any help would be greatly appreciated before I throw my controller threw the window.

Summon Solaire from one of the stairs in the big hall and use him as bait while you focus on one of the bosses. I would recommend going for the small one first.

They're tough, but totally doable solo...i did. The skinny uses lightning as his attack, so attacking him with anything lightning based is a waste of time. The way i did it was focus on the fat one with your lightning based weapon and try to stay close and move so that he is blocking the skinny one from getting close to you and attacking. Wail on him as you can and run away and regroup when they're both close to attacking. Once fatty is down, i used my Drake Sword +4, made it two handed, and got close to him and wailed on him as much as possible. His attacks when close are pretty readable, and i was able to dodge most of them. It also helps if your bonfire in Anor Londo is kindled alot so you can carry alot of estus flasks. I think i beat them when i went in with 15 estus flasks.

Without giving too much away, try using their size and speed against them. If you killed Smough first, the fat one, it is much tougher than if you kill Ornstein, the quick one. Sometimes at the before you can clear the fog, Ornstein will already charge your character. The best advice I can give is to roll or block going into the hall. This is one of the best fights in the game, so try not to get to frustrated and enjoy figuring it out. It feels great when you finally drop them, same with the Four Kings.

That's to do with the size of the weapon, not necessarily what I was talking about. I am talking about when you or an opponent is getting stunlocked, the window to get out of it is the shortest with MGS and GLGS. The poise threshold for 2H the Zwei and other Ultra Greatswords is 76, while it is 56 while 2H the other two, but, when you are actually stunlocked, the window to escape is much shorter than an Ultra Greatsword. It's essentially an argument of power to stun, over speed of stunlock. A Falchion can stunlock pretty hard too if you get enough swings into an opponent. I am also speaking more in regards to PvP rather than PvE.

Keep the fat one between you and Ornstein. That's the easiest way of staying alive in that fight.

Update;

:( I decided to start over..lol. 20 hours down the drain. This time I am going to use a full on walkthrough + tips and tricks + videos to help me. I realize this game requires a lot of patience and knowledge and skill...something that I lacked my first two times playing. So with the help with all of you and some youtube videos...I WILL beat this game..that I vow to all of you.

So I rolled with a knight this time, I want to go full on melee 95% of the time and maybe 5% with a bow when the situation calls for it :) Maybe on a few more playthroughs I will go mage.

So lets start. First I ran through the ruins and got a fire keeper soul and already upgraded my estus flasks. Then I ran through the valley of drakes, and darkwood basin and collected all the items along the way. I just got the key and returned to the undead asylum again and got my ass kicked. Looks like the monsters are much harder. May come back here with better gear. A nice surprise is
falling through the floor and seeing the first boss again, this game REALLY holds nothing back does it

I know about the drake sword which I'm planning on getting. Any other helpful tips for the first half of the game. Good farming spots for souls/items?

There was no need to restart. Just upgrade your existing character. You already had a strong weapon in the claymore.

Best way to earn souls is doing co-op or killing the forest protectors. I wouldn't bother with the drake sword, just get any regular weapon and upgrade it to +5. That will 1-2 shot everyone up to blightown.

Just remember to only level up your stats if you your equipment requires it or to increase weapon scaling. Vitality isn't necessary for PvE. When you start getting good, you're not going to be hit that often.

if you are soloing,
Lern to position yourself. Line them up in a straight line and stay near a pilar. Attack one while watching the other ones movement. Go take cover if nessasary.

Oh I see what you mean now. But to me that makes no difference since I always get away by quickly switching my weapon (I always wear poise-less clothes)

Update on my SL2 run: I beat easily Sif and 4 Kings in my 1st try.
But Seath... fuck this boss. It's always a big issue if I try to beat him properly. I think that I will ignore his tail this time and beat him with a crossbow. It's a shameful way but it's the only one since I always die many time trying to fight him properly. This boss is a nightmare.

Been using the MGS in PvP with great success and I usually suck at using big swords.

Doing Tomb of Giants right now, that place never gets any more pleasant! The only saving grace is that the skeletons go down like puffs of air to soul spear or pyro. I always fall into that pit with the ember and die, I'll go for a peek and then think I can pyro/magic a few of the skeletons away then somehow the camera goes koo koo because I've locked on and I end up dropping down. :/

No real reason to ever solo Smough and Ornstein, Solaire is there even if you aren't online and if you are, at 25,000 souls people are always looking to get summoned, usually in the bonfire room but right outside the fog door too.

People usually say fatty is easier to take out last, which is probably true, but remember whomever you leave to last determines whos soul you get, therefore which weapons you can make with it, and also the merchant under the viaduct will sell their armour too. I base my decision on that rather than who is easier or harder - they both are pretty easy to do with a summon or two.

we must have completely different playstyles. i found the gaping dragon, iron golem, and seath extremely easy (beating them on my 1st or 2nd try), while sif and four kings took me multiple attempts to beat them.

i found using lock-on was extremely annoying for that fight, so i'd suggest not using it. you have to watch both characters and only attack when completely safe.

Decided to roll with a Strenght/Faith character after messing up my last character. Its weird to see how much better I get whenever I start a new playthrough. I couldn't beat the Capra Demon for shit and now I'm beating him 1st try. Just recently finished Sen's Fortress but decided to stay behind for a bit and help people beat Quelaag. Its a good source a souls and my duty as a Sunbro :).

Its common for all types of invasion. Outside of certain levels and areas, you'll usually be 1v3 Giant-Mask-flip-derps. This is the thing I miss most from Demon's Souls, and a reason low level invasions are so appealing. You have a chance to actually invade and stalk through a level. You don't even need to be rocking perfect poise / health or Claymore/Zwei/MGS/etc.

it seems like every time an area becomes known for invasions, people will rush to it for co-op with twinked out characters themselves and pass it off as some kind of holier than thou bit of them protecting the host from 'unfair' invaders. Nevermind the poor dumb bastard that makes the mistake of trying to invade the Parish without maxed weapons.

Last night, I invaded the Parish myself about 40 times. I had two weapons on me. A +5 Chaos Uchi and a +5 Hand Axe. I used the Chaos vs the Phantoms, and the Hand Axe when I thought I was facing a basic host. I *tried* to use the Hand Axe on the phantoms from time to time, and it would always do single digit damage. So I doubt I saw a single non-twinked/BB phantom all night. Hell, seeing a genuinely new host alone was so rare that I'd usually drop a stack of humanity and/or some stones for them, and crystal out. Not that I'm pushing a moral outrage or anything, just the whole "anti-griefer!" attitude some people get off on (See: Gamefaqs) is just as silly.

Going for the tail can be really hard, but if you don't want it just hit him in the stomach and then back off, repeat until dead.

I suppose the fun of NOT using the guides etc. is reserved for those that already palyed demon's extensively or for fast learners that like the controls etc. I am not an good video game player in general but owing to loggin almost a 1000 hours on FROM's souls game sso far the virgin run is the holiest run of them all. I can see that by starting over you crave this aspect as well. LIttel confused though...if you already made it to anor londo yourself without much help, the tips I can give that I usually give to noobs may not be necessary but here goes:

Ring both bells as fast as possible but leave all other bosses alive for PVP. YOu can go in to any area to get embers, drain the basin, kill the hydra, kill havel, etc etc and still keep the bosses alive.....try all the covenants first. Get the
gold hemmed set, the Eagle shield, dark wood grain ring, and the lightning spear as fast as possible...only real requirements are to get the rusted ring from FIerlink revisited and a few purple moss from the forest....
grab the homeward bones at firelink then have fun! I realize you are trying for melee only, with minor bows, but if you don't have either pyro or lightning spears as an alternate, you may continue to be frustrated....these are cool additions to the game and have their place IMO. My suggestion is to join the sunbro convenant and immediately start getting the minimum faith to use the miralces. You will get a heal miracle you can use as a phantom when you are assisting others when normaly you cna't heal as estus is disabled and humanity is costly. YOu appear not to have got into multiplayer much..each to their own but this aspect is perhaps the largest factor keeping me playing so many hours after already completing each level various ways umpteen times. You never really "beat" the game .....you only complete the levels a certian way then try a new way next time.

Since you are reading up on things this time review all the vendors, NPC's, and special characters. Nothing was more fun than finding out that
Lautrec is at least twice if not 10 times tougher than Solaire and that summoning BOTH of them for gargoyles basically enabled me to win that fight while wathcing with the binoculars. It takes a bit of research to be able to do it but it is worth it. Lautrec
will also help with SOlaire on Gaping Dragon as well. Another fun one to do eearly is get the
patches vendor shop
opened. You will want to use shortcuts after speaking with said dude in catacombs, then summon
paladin leroy
to help battle the pinwheell skellies and if you both live you can again stand back and watch a boss fight with the binoculars as your summon can kill that boss without your help as well.

Basically if you are reading up on all info..figure out what stuff you wat to rol with and go get it...keeping bosses alive as much as possible until you know you wnat them dead for whatever reason. The great scythe is a good weapon to snag early if you can. Get those homeward bone runs working for you right away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible with the Dark Moon covenant to invade someone when they don't have 2 phantoms with them? These 3v1 fights are so annoying and futile.

NO guarantees, but I was the doing the Darkmoon reprisal harvest in Painted world and ONLY faced single hosts the last few nights...... had about 4 invasions in 2-3 hours..only one killed me...the one with the quick draw avelyn. Got 30 reprisals damn quick it seemed and 21 humanity 5 or so simply for free while it whisked into my counter.

i've never tried using npc summons yet, because i'm afraid they would die and it would mess up some story arc or something. is it possible for them to die? and if so, is it just a non-permanent death that doesn't have a negative effect?

Mxrz

Member
Nope, them dying in fights doesn't change anything. Solarie has a story/quest going for him that requires you summoning him a couple times, I think. The last step is rather tricky. The Witch needs to be summoned for at least one in order to get her armor.

Forgot to mention - One guy I invaded a few times in the Parish must've been in a high NG+. He seemed to summon Solarie and Lautrec and watch them slaughter invaders. The Baldur Knights were doing insane damage to them, but their health must've been incredibly high too. Lautrec would hit me for 400+ There were also Black Phantom Baldur Knights in there too, and a Black Phantom Heavy Knight in front of the elevators. -- I really wish From would patch in the ability for us to create Black Phantoms in our own world. I've *barely* seen any in all my hours.

oh that DLC better be coming to consoles. I'm sure it will be a bit after PC release, just to give it more of an incentive to be bought. But I'll wait.

Ok just started a new character and have to share this with you guys. Some dude I summoned in Undead Burg just dropped me literally EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF ARMOR in the game (upgraded to max if possible), tons of weapons and almost 99 of every item imaginable.

I don't know if he just ruined this character for me or made my playthrough the most awesome so far.

That must've taken forever to drop that amount of stuff. Actually that is one of my few real gripes with this series, the menu system is absolutely terrible.

Why don't these people come into my game and drop me 99 Titanite slabs? :(

Yeah I'd say it took approx 30 mins to pick everything up. :D Also there were some items I just couldn't pick so I don't know what's up with that.

Currently blasting through Catacombs and Sen's Fortress. Rocking this game hard on SL4 while roommate is playing Diablo 3. Gotta keep myself busy with some game since I don't have money to pick that one up (saving for Dragon's Dogma next week).

For anyone having trouble with 4 kings, low level or not. Iron Flesh still works great and is pretty much a foolproof win. Also, if anyone is doing a low SL run on 360 I have a character in range and would gladly help out.

Ive had bad luck using Iron Will on the 4 Kings. I cast it a little bit after hitting the ground, but I couldnt get close to them due to mobility. I probably used it at the wrong time. Spoiler on method I use to kill them with almost any build pretty easily
Personally Ive had the best luck using an upgraded Gargoyle Halberd with resin/magic buff applied. I run up to the 4 Kings and roll past the sweeping swing. If you get up close and 2H the Gargoyle Halberd, it tears them apart and they do small amounts of damage compared to when you keep your distance. You have time to down a flask in between swings and you can take a lot of up close hits. 2 handing the Halbred rips through the Kings and you have time before the next one spawns. The toughest parts are avoiding the homing spell and the long sweeping swing you need to dodge to get close. After I started killing them this way, I rarely die even on NG++ and further. Trying to kill them from range or keeping your distance, is the quickest way to die. Their damage output gets lower the closer you get.

Update:

Doing very well so far, I feel more comfortable now that I know whats going on. A few things though. I am about to kill the Capra Demon however I decided to explore for a bit in the catacombs. Is there anything worth while down there? I made it pretty far, pushed the second lever but got killed.

I also tried a my hand in the Darkwoods Garden, bought the crest and opened the seal door.

Because I'm a Knight I am automatically part of the white covenant, should I drop this and be part of another one?

off the top of my head, the great scythe and using the blacksmith to upgrade to fire weaps.

Fucking Bed of Chaos - that boss is just wrong! It's only the second time I've actually fought it even though I've started loads of characters. I had to warp to Firelink and hoof it to Oswald to clear him out of Rings of Sacrifice - I used a total of 6 before I finally killed it!

It's worth while doing the Catacombs early because the boss is one of the easiest in the game and he drops an important item. Once you turn the levers you can jump down and use the shortcut to Vamos the Blacksmith, making the whole trip quite short.

Of course, you have to get to him first, which means passing about 6 Bonewheel Skeletons - as long as you lure them out one by one, they are easy, but 2 or more and you are in big trouble.
I suggest turning the in game brightness control up to max for this part so you can see them in the distance - shoot off an arrow to attract the attention one at time then run back and hide around the corner where the Blacksmith is, you can turn the camera to see the skeleton approach, then just do your strongest attack to take it out - rinse and repeat.

I usually just jump down to the ledge where you can summon Leeroy, he will gladly kill them all while you can hang out in safety.

just to be clear.....yu can't get to vamos the first time through the cave with the skellies...you have to drop down the shaft and get him to knock the hole n the wall first. the skellies and boss are better with npc summon paladin leroy....or u can get their attention while on a ledge, then drop off said ledge using attack r1....i killed all but two once in one drop!

@pakkidis

yeah catacombs is a goldmine lots of important stuff...some wait until they can warp before doing tomb of giants....once you go in you can't get out if you sit at the bonfires there.

and yes....join other covenants....i mentioned solaires sunbro as the most fun, the chaos lady gives monster pyro and a secret path that is very valuable, the cat enables wide open multiplayer imn the garden, and gravelord, darkwraith, and darkmoon all give great items which are useful for lots of things including multiplayer.....the others are ho hum. you can join rejoin break and absolve sins but most will require you to build your gifts that you bring them from scratch if you kill a member or join a different one....its best to get the level you desire in each first before switching.

Huh. Didn't know you could summon Leeroy. Usually unless there is an item I want or need in the Catacombs, I tend drop off the ledges, into Vamos' pit, and hoof it to Pinwheel.

Invasions made me hate the game, almost. Might be time to go back to working on a high level strength character. I did try doing 4 Kings on my sl140. Got murderated in two hits. Blargh. No summon signs anywhere to be seen either.
