Hm... I haven't seen it in a while but I remember the directing being worse than the script. There were some dumb things in the script but maybe a better director could have made it better, I mean look how terrible the opening shot is in the director's cut:

Obviously Whedon might say this, but didn't he say that the director had managed to arse up the delivery of the script in the movie in every way possible.

Makes me want to find the script that he wrote and see how it compares and if Whedon was right it saying that.

It's easy to find Whedon's script and it reads just as awful as the film.

Cameron should have made the end of Aliens different so the ship makes it back to earth thus preventing the 3rd and 4th movie and saving the world.

How would the ship going back to earth prevent the 3rd and 4th films? They can write anything they want...it's not like they really care about holes...

godDAMN that poster is bad. :/

I wonder what the board meeting was like where they decided on Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Not knocking him, he's a magnificent filmmaker, but the wrong person for an Alien movie.

I remember being really excited about the decision because I loved Delicatessen and (especially) The City of Lost Children. Strange decision? Absolutely. Unfortunately it's really the only glaring flaw in Juenet's entire filmography.

I mean... the guy doesn't (didn't) even speak English. Weaver and Perlman basically had to act as translators for him through production, if I recall correctly.
Dominique Pinion didn't speak English either, so every line of dialogue from him came out sounding awkward. Should have just made him mute (he's a fantastic 'expression' actor) or speak completely in French with subs, or not... just pull a Chewbacca where everyone just responds to him in English. :D

So yeah, basically Resurrection was a massive failure. :(
Bold move by Fox, but they took a chance that just didn't work.

Because the movies might have been different. It was lazy writing killing off Hicks and Newt at the start of the 3rd movie, plus it meant the actions of Aliens were all for nothing. At least if they got home at the end of the second movie instead of crashing on the prison they could have written them out in a way that did Aliens justice.

Whedon and his fanboys trying to shift all the blame to Jean-Pierre is just hilarious.

That script is a turd.

It was everyone involves fault. Fuck Weaver for even saying she'll come back. The minute you have that "Lets bring a dead character back". Walk the fuck away, everyone.

from the actor of SHAME

off subject, but I still remember hearing this dumbass southern woman in a theater lobby look at the poster for SIGNS and say "Why's this movie called M NIGHT SHAMALAWN? It must be artsy 'cause that title don't make no sense!"

MAN I GOTTA GO SEE THIS MOVIE CALLED FASSBENDER!!!!!!!!

The make out session, was that a staged thing? I would assume the camera person is part of a community named 'half a million screenshots' or that just happened to be one epic make out.

Looks like the cover art of an Atari game or a sci-fi fantasy book from the 70s. Super crappy composition.

The poster should say "From the director of ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER". What is Gladiator doing there?
You mean the blockbuster best picture winner? You do understand posters are advertisements?

Not like the Alien name means anything anymore after hacks like James Cameron left their marks on it.
Fixed that for ya ;P

Good thing? Bad thing?

Good thing, definitely. That's a good thing.
It would be good if this were Scott Pilgrim or a Tarrantino style homage/genre piece, but it's not, it's classy sci-fi.

It's a bad poster, and has no 'ironic' reasons to be.

I wouldn't mind a retro poster though, a hand painted one, Star Wars style.

You're right, but the simple fact that you mentioned Atari/70's sci-fi book covers has already convinced my warped mind to like it. Just something about that old style clicks with me.

Yeah I love it too generally. I prefer the ones with better composition though, like Konami's NES and SNES box artwork.

Actually that's a great idea for a movie all round, a retro sci-fi.

I don't go to the movies much.
It always feels like cinematic Russian roulette. Will I get the bullet this time (i.e. a theater filled with shitheads talking/laughing/texting/bringing babies) or will the chamber be empty (nice, peaceful experience filled with people that actually give a shit about seeing the movie)?

This is the first film in a looooooooooong time I'm going to be very nervous about modern fuckhead movie-goers ruining.
Opening night might be a disaster... so maybe the matinee on Saturday? It's a toss-up.
