Nah, that's pretty much not happening.
Nintendo told a bunch of their QA guys Retro's big game with fake ideas, the concept being that it would cross over 2 Nintendo franchises.

The trick was that all the combinations was true! However, someone snitched, so they will probably fire whomever was told Metroid X Starfox.

It's actually an epic Smash Bros. adventure title with sampler gameplay engines from all the involved franchises, a giant advertisement for all their future Wii U games.

For example:
Explore the worlds with 3D Mario Platforming
Puzzles and dungeons from 2D/3D Zelda
Enemies and upgrades with Metroid technology
Space and shooter missions with Starfox
Racing with Captain Falcon
Simulation Golf with Kirby
more franchises to be announced

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
But look at this picture I just found
and definitely didn't just make up

It has to be real!

Still sounds like crap :)

If this guy made all this Metroid/Star Fox stuff up...I mean I understand hearing false rumors, but the dude goes super in depth about stuff. It's not just a name and a gameplay idea, he's giving the beginning scene and a lot more. It sounds like it would be more of a fantastical made-up story rather than a off-the-cuff rumor that a friend told him.

He did note that it could likely have been something proposed that never made it past the proposal stage.

I think, personally, that it would be really neat...but I don't think it will be Retro's game. It just makes no sense.

Seriously, it sounds no more real than Acid Ghost and Sadness.

I mean it's possible, but the idea of him going that detailed in specifics and then saying "Oh it's just some random idea they threw around on the table."

I've been thinking about Nintendo franchises having crossover themes(similar to the crossover outfits in SF vs Tekken), and Mario having another dream would pretty much explain any and every bit of craziness that happened. No real cross franchise characters showing up, but things from their universe would. Solely in theme, as it would still play like a Mario title at it core and be a platformer.

Mario with Pit's wing's when he flies?
Shy Guys with Majora's Masks?
Wart with Soda Popinski's drink?
Koopa Troopas dressed like Captain Falcon...and the winged ones can knee you?
Bowser with a....I don't know...a fucking Screw Attack!?

They could still name it Super Mario Universe

Edit: You know, the Shy Guy bit might be too creepy...

Was anybody reminded of this game idea made by Abstract when they read the Paul Gate thing? It's basically the same idea, but Mario themed instead of just a SF/Metroid crossover. Weird...

on the subject of the crossover rumor, aren't crazy rumors the ones rhat are usually true while good rumors are usually false? :p ♪

I still think the best way to do a Nintendo crossover as far as an adventure/action game is concerned is having Star Fox travel to different planets.

Each planet is a different Nintendo world like the Mushroom Kingdom, Earthbound, Pokemon, Pikmin, Hyrule (Zelda), etc.

Kind of like Kingdom Hearts where each world is a different Disney movie theme.

Well, in this case, I was expecting more exciting a rumor about Retro(not blindly hating on this one though) so maybe it's better that way.

If it was an amazingly interesting to me rumor, I'd be let down if it was bullshit.

If this is true, I'll deal with it.

If it's hogwash, cool with me.

Not always. This sounds like a by-the-numbers made up thing that a fan desperately wants.

At the very ends, he covers his bases by saying that this could have been "just a rumor being pitched around by Nintendo and Retro" thus he can say that he always said it may have just been a past idea, and just a rumor, which is kind of lame.

This part makes me really look at it oddly:

Paul Gate said:
Star Fox – Metroid: Fusion Saga is wholly a satisfying adventure game as Samus, an equally electrifying aerial combat game as Fox, and something that delivers an exciting, special change that fans will love.

That's not facts or even information. It's just synergy based schlock that's usually used by advertisers or marketing teams. It's just weird.

Well, Harada said that the 1/60th second (~16.7ms) applies in a 60FPS game.

If we compare that to Digital Foundry's article on latency they found that, at best, in a 60FPS game on Xbox 360, the latency was 67ms.

He must be just talking about the touchscreen. I don't believe 16ms from controller to screen is possible on any game on any hardware yet.

No way Nintendo will dump on the Metroid franchise again with something like this. I'm sure we may hear something Metroid at E3, but not this.

I JUST realized.

The new controller design also means there gonna be that extra grip at the back of the controller too, right?

Metroid/Star Fox makes no sense from a marketing perspective. Fans like those franchises for entirely different reasons. Popular thing + popular thing doesn't automatically equal 'more popular thing'.
I don't doubt IdeaMan completely but his 'hints' about these changes were vague enough that anything would fit in. Hopefully he takes more initiative with his knowledge from now on. :)
Yep. I mean, the controller design was going to change from its initial unveiling? Who could have guessed such a thing!? It's only happened with...every Nintendo console unveil in memory!

Maybe someone overheard something and got it wrong...like the Retro guy was talking about Nintendo Smash Bros. Pinball Fusion, with tables designed around franchises like Starfox, Metroid, Mother, Zelda, Mario Bros., Kid Icarus, Sadness, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Conker, Pikmin, Pokemon...

Sucks at viral marketing
My urge to kill has lowered/been satisfied, but I still hate that thing.

Back on the wuc redesign...

While I think it now has more appeal to hardcore gamers, with sticks and grips, I think that this version will have less appeal to non gamers than the original design. It looks a lot more like a traditional controller while the slide-pad version looked like a consumer friendly version of an iPad.
This change is definitely pandering to one crowd over the other.

I'd take it one step further... I wouldn't be surprised to find out that this is the reason Miyamoto was stepping down to a lower role. For the last two generations he has emphasized simplicity and reducing the barrier between the user and game. This controller throws out the last 12 years of his designs for a dualshock with a screen.

I wish they could figure a way to cut down on the white space on the sides yet still have offset sticks > buttons.
There was about a 1/4 inch of space around the screen that I wished they would have trimmed on the old design. This new one has an extra 1/4 inch for the offset sticks.

I'm curious how the controller will handle latency. Wireless controllers have managed to have the same latency as wired but I wonder how something that needs to deal with video streams and touch screens will handle it.
I'd imagine that the video stream and all control inputs would be transferred independently of each other. So the only issue would be how the video stream compares to a regular TV output. Lag between the touchscreen and system would be anticipated through software.

I took a break from this thread to try and finish Skyward Sword and I remember why I quit the game in the first place. I hate swimming and I hate the collectathon garbage they put into this game.

I don't mean to go ff on a tanget even though I do, but am I the only one that likes the swimming in Skyward Sword???

And...

What game does anyone like the swimming in???

Sorry to go off-topic as well.

I don't mind it too much actually. It's just a certain part of the game where it's irritated me enough to quit.

The only game I actually enjoyed swimming was in the DKC games.

A Nintendo pinball game would be awesome as a Wiiware game lol.

I'm guessing you guys are staying away from the other thread?

Went to it once or twice and only saw one or two people complaining. Other than that I haven't been there since. Are you saying the general consensus is that people dislike the controller? Or is it just the aesthetics of the controller? People will always find a reason to complain about something, so I don't know why it's surprising to you.

My favorites are those that say the controller looks unbelievably uncomfortable(every account I read from those that used it say otherwise) and that the screen isn't good enough(every acount from those that used it never mentioned it in a bad light).

Yeah, said it a short while ago that the past iteration of the Wii U controller looks more streamlined and orderly but that doesn't matter to me if it's not as good for gameplay.

The only time a controller's appearance matters is when you aren't using it. Even with a screen, the controller should "disappear" in your hands. Using it should be effortless.

Hah. I bet it's coming from a bunch of people who didn't have hands on with it. I remember reading some impressions and people generally liked the E3 2011 model and this one looks even better. I'm hoping to get hands on with it when Nintendo goes on tour and comes to SF.
