24 laps is about 3.5 hours. I agree, that is a bit ambitious. 12 is obviously 1.75. I know it is rather hard for our friends in Europe to stay up late, but what if we started the race earlier and did 2.4 hours or about 12-15 laps? Our normal start time is 7pm GMT, so maybe we should start at around 5-6pm GMT.

I think it would be fun to do an endurance type race (or at least endurance by GAF standards). Factoring in things like fatigue, concentration, variable weather, time of day, etc, etc should give people who are not the fastest a better chance at finishing in a good position. The winner won't necessarily be the fastest driver, but the one that runs a smooth, consistent and error free race. I know this may seem intimidating for some, but this is the type of experience that makes you a better driver.

12 laps max, 12 is also too much :D + the kazemobile is not very fast
how about some multiclass with the kaze mobile ?

The only reason I shy away from multiclass on 24hr Ring is that it is so large cars tend to get spread out. So we would need to have a full room (which is very rare) in order to make it work. To even make one make on this track worth while we would need 12 people. If people do not want to or cannot commit to this type of race then we should definitely not do it. Each person will end up with nobody in front of or behind them.

I think 12 laps is a decent number. That should be just about 2 hours. TOD rate should be set to a factor of about 12 to experience a full 24hr cycle (Assuming 3 hours gets a factor of 8). Set weather to 1 and see what happens. I think it would be a blast.

If we get enough people to do multiclass I would go with the R8LMS Audi or the R35 TC DLC car for one class. And the Kazmobile for the other. Otherwise I think we should just stick to the stock Kazmobile.

@MM. Protein bars for dinner!

Again, this is something that has to be planned. People have to be willing to schedule out 2 hours of their life. That is a big ask. We may not be able to do it next weekend. But we should definitely do it. If we are short on people I will see if we can get some folks from GTPlanet to join in.

also full range of tires could be interesting on nurbur with different strategy

For the Kazmobile we should do SH-SS. Then if it rains you can do racing inters or wets. I wonder how racing inters compare to sports tires in a dry track.

I am going to pm people, but to save time if you are reading this post please state if you are interested in doing a ~2hr endurance race on the nurb 24hr circuit next weekend, at around 6pm gmt sat or sun. If not next weekend, then please state when.

I would be interested but next weekend may not be good for Americans as it's Memorial Day weekend. I guess it could go either way: some may have plans, some may have more free time.

I'm totally in for the endurance race. 12 laps is good, as well as an earlier start time. Normal races are at 1pm my time and i get up around 7am. Start time matters not to me.

I think we will do the enduro race the weekend after next and something simple this weekend (maybe just an open lounge with short races?)

I want to race with you guys again. Started GT5 for the first time in months this weekend at it was awesome just racing around the Ring.

I'll be in Paris this weekend and Gothenburg the next weekend though, but I'll definitely make time to attend the race the weekend after that.

:)

Rally! I always wondered why we were not adding this to our race lineup? We should do rally to a road stage and then back to a rally stage. Or just do the long Eiger course

I've always wanted to do a rally race, but the big cloud behind the cars makes races with more than 2 cars practically impossible sadly.

We did a few silly 14 player races on the chamonix snow track... It was sort of fun, but almost impossible to drive any good lines.

How about this for a race list.

Karting @ short course generated track (they are the best for karting) 5 laps

Stock WRC cars SH tires @ Eiger wet (but not raining) 5 laps

Aventador vs Enzo SM tires @ La Sarthe No Chicane 5 laps (just tested this with sm tires we are doing this. It's amazing how close each car is on this track.)

LMP Cars RM @ Monza No Chicane 5 laps.

They all sound great, are we racing this weekend?

no multiclass ? everyone with the same car ? :(

We will do multiclass races later. Multiclass on the nurburgring would be great if GT5 could handle more cars on track, but it just ends up being a ghost town with each car spread out. It may not make as nice a replay, but the racing is closer when its single class.

Why are we still racing with light damage btw? We're all grown ups.

The risk, or lack of it, of losing just a few seconds (or almost none if it's just a mild crash) over gaining tons of time by continuously aggressive driving is going to be even less of a drawback in long races like this. And those that cautiously and steady (as you should in endurance races) will be even more penalized by it.

I'm interested in joining this race, but I'm not quite sure I'll be able to make it.

The tyre rules seem unnecessarily complicated and ambiguous though. Aren't SM and SS tyres good enough to handle rain?

I may change this depending on how people react. While terminal damage is a part of racing, it's not worth a 1/4 of the field crashing out and quitting to achieve. If everyone is ok with, I will change it.

I don't see how it is ambiguous. You can use Sprots hards, mediums, or softs, and racing inters or racing wets (when it rains). Racing inters/wets will degradate quick so any grip advantage will be null). Racing tires have way too much grip for a car like the N24 GTR. If the water on track goes beyond 30-40% then Sports tires (any tire that is not inter/wets) will become unmanageable (especially people with DS3 and moderate levels of skill). This is the only solution to both those problems.

It's pretty simple Sports tires when its dry/damp and inters/wets when its damp/wet.

I say just limit it to racing hards. It is a race car after all.

No, I have not been smoking with Amar... racing tires on 90% or race cars are just wrong. They have too much grip.

Taken from the last race we had at the nurburgring.

Niks said:
An issue with the ring is that races tend to become a bit boring in the sense that you tend to be running by yourself most of the race so I dont know if increasing the # of laps is good thing?

Maybe we could do 2, 3 lap races?
Just a suggestion.

I think the result was great.
If I remember correctly everyone had fun in those GOLF races.

We should do the same here... run 4, 3 lap races.

some pics to remember ;)
