I was hoping Iwata would confirm the existence of WiiU achievements/trophies. But maybe that goes without saying by showing that Nintendo Network logo.

Either way, im very excited for Tuesday's conference!

So wait, if I post on a message board some strange dickwad has the ability to call me on my cellphone? That's a feature with the new Nintendo coming from "friend codes" I'm not comfortable with that. Could you imagine that feature on 4chan.

Pretty sure the guy who called him is a real-world friend who happens to also be his friend through the Wii U.

Uhhh, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to restrict access or, y'know, not provide a phone number.

That background is nostalgic...

Hopefully the overworld is in SMW style :O

I'll have to watch a video or something on Youtube. I haven't seen anything quite like Miiverse before, and I tend to pay attention to this stuff. But if what you're saying is true, then good on Sony for putting it on the Vita.

Yes, look up 'Near' as well, it's basically an app on the Vita using GPS and whatnot to locate other players within a certain radius around you, you can 'discover' the games they are playing, see what they think of it (ratings and emotes) and friend them this way too - they can also share ingame content and challenges to you via Near

Each game itself also has hub pages on the OS where you can leave comments about the game, comment on other peoples posts and set your friends challenges and whatnot

I'll take a functional d-pad any day. I don't think the face button positioning is going to be nearly as big of a problem as people seem to think it will be.

We'll see, but it is a moot point since they had to lay out the controller to match the tablet...I mean Gamepad. Would have been worse to have two different layouts on the same system.

Every single word that is remotely offensive will be filtered from here to the moon with no way to turn off the filter at all is what I'm guessing.

So if your name is Richard you're out of luck.

IMO everything shown is the kind of complete social integration that PSN and XBL should have had all this time. Based on what's been shown here, it seems it could be much more than just playing catch-up to XBL and PSN. This actually does take all the competitive feature and wraps them up in an even more expansive, potentially more cohesive, network and interface.

Nintendo is definitely building on what XBL, the leading online platform in terms of features and integration, has done. But true to form, they seem to have tried hard to come up with a fresh spin on things.

There's already a lot of people saying "they're doing it wrong, noooo!" across the net, but I don't think they're understanding what the presentation was getting at. It seems Wii U online has all the expected features. The Miiverse start-up screen isn't even the only dashboard - there's a more conventional dash available for use either on the controller or the screen, and they can be swapped at any time.

Just want to say - your posts are excellent. Definitely a very level headed member here.

This was a great presentation. I imagine Wii-U GAF will even have it's own friend sharing where we can all play together. For anybody who played Demon's/Dark Souls, you already know how interesting a concept it is. A game that would normally feel very lonely and isolating but with a small feeling of comradery through seeing your peers - all without jeopardizing the in-game atmosphere. If handled properly it could be glorious and, obviously, very social.

And we're back. I loved it. The TV remote function is fantastic (though compatibility across devices might limit its' function. For example, will it work with both Comcast & Dish devices?)
Miiverse has the potiental to be a killer app (It's like GameFAQs! But convenient & not an eyesore!).
Finally, porn curtain. Clearly Nintendo has won E3.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So Iwata said don't expect any 3DS news from their E3 conference? :|

Just the Castlevania teaser proves there will be 3DS talk. Just, as Iwata said at the beginning, almost all the conference will be about Wii U games.

I think it is a bit unfair to say Nintendo did just copy everyone, but it semms they will provide an awesome package of everything that no one else will provide. Also they are doing it the Nintendo way with so much charme, it will be awesome

I'm starting to get the vague sorta feeling that you're not happy about this console. Just, you know, a shot in the dark...

I don't think that was supposed to be a strager. It was one of his rl friends.

It's not. You can tell in the video - you can see where the world starts.

Very disappointing. I wanted that more than I wanted an art style change (At least the background is nicer).

That video with grandpa and action figure was honestly amazing, so self aware and tongue in cheek. Whoever wrote that should be in charge of Nintendo marketing forever.

Plenty of 3DS news coming during 'other upcoming opportunities' - Iwata

Probably, just some reel, Castlevania trailer and one / two announcements during the Conference itself, where it'll have very little space.

Pretty sure the guy who called him is a real-world friend who happens to also be his friend through the Wii U.

He didn't seem to know anyone there, got the opposite. That is so weird for Nntendo to show something like that when they have been all about privacy and protection. Now you can video chat with some old guy who wants you to call him grampa. What if that was the pedo from Family Guy? i don't think it is in Nintendo's best interest to keep showing that stuff.

That pro controller looked great, but I'm wary of it getting full support.

As far as I can tell, it appears to be exactly the same inputs as the Wii U GamePad; i.e. the only 'support' it would need would be for a given software maker to not implement a second screen.

Following on from that, if you were to play such a game using the Pad instead, I presume you could play it entirely on the pad since it only requires a single screen.

It's quite a nice setup. If a dev can't find a use for the pad screen, they don't use it and still gain some nice functionality for the end user out of it. If they *can* use it... at least every player has one, so they're not limiting their audience.

And, yet, people don't get that it was self-aware. They honestly think this is "Nintendo's view of gamers." Idiots.

Um... I thought that was his actual grandfather.

I will never get why people like achievements. They are so stupid and are just annoying.

Also I don't get the big deal about the stick and buttons being switched. I like the horizontal play style better.

Mind = Blown.

The right stick being where it is makes perfect sense. They want the FPS crowd, and in an FPS you are constantly on the right stick - for sprinting and for looking around / aiming. I'm sure its comfortable enough hitting the other buttons, I've never known Nintendo to make a controller that didn't feel great.

Did I hear right with when you boot up the system the TV will go to the Mii Verse thing but the screen on the gamepad will go to a screen of the icons from the TV but in a much organised state ala the 3DS OS?

I wasn't home, so I'm watching it now. I watch about a minute, buffer for five, and then watch another minute. I'm at the zombie game part now. It's hilariously bad.

I like how that demonstration video was so self-aware of how weird all those promotional reels can get. I enjoyed it. Good work, Nintendo.

Also, sold.

We can only hope!

And let's also hope that we can take Yoshi's with us from level to level. Having them only be locked to certain ones was my major complaint with NSMBWii.
