There is NO WAY PEOPLE ACTUALLY ENJOYED THAT SHITTY VIDEO.

Come ON gaf. Seriously. It was FUCKING AWFUL. Cheesy, horribly acted, self-aware to the point of being TOO self-aware, and just...fucking STUPID.

GAF, good lord. Do not succumb to something that horrible.
YOUR TEARS ARE DELICIOUS.

Good god, people. Stop talking about the stupid skit. It was such a minor thing compared to the stuff that was revealed. How about we talk about that stuff instead? You know, the actually important shit - not some random skit that we'll probably never see again?

It was terrible but come on lol

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Graphically I was way more wow that looks cool for Mario than I was with NSMB Wii/DS/3ds. So that's a win.

Also while I hated the video I really liked the idea of the Wara Wara and the Miiverse. Just looked really cool and a nice evolution of what Nintendo already has to an extent.

To be fair, you thought some random dude off the internet called his phone.... ;)

He called him by a screen name, not a real name. I get this is supposed to be tongue in cheek but you have to look at this objectively from what nintendo has been known for with social interactions. This seems pretty open and they really should be careful the way they are pushing that for parents.

I wonder if they're going to rename Mii Wara Wara for other regions? That's not a particularly easy thing to say lol. The way he explained it is that "Wara Wara" is the sound of crowd commotion, like "Rabble Rabble" or something to that effect. Maybe they'll just do a pronunciation thing and call it Wadda Wadda.

I guess this confirms the look of NSMBWii U or whatever its gonna be called. There better be some great 3ds to Wii U cross platform features now that both games look virtually identical.

Also while the miiverse text bubbles are cool on the game map I home to god they can be turned off. And also, with all that random text Nintendo's text filters will be working overtime.
think of the children

Edit: @StateofMind, I thought Miiverse was the English name for Mii Wara Wara?

Give me that over the ones for the Wii where the guy was jumping about behind the sofa while playing Red Steel any day!

I'm pretty sure they knew it was cheesy etc, seemed kinda the point.

We got some good news out of it. The acting was campy, but whatever.

I highly, highly doubt that Nintendo is going to allow people to make phone calls to people randomly through the Wii U.

I enjoyed the video.

It was pretty much what I expected considering the nature of it, and was a good way to get out some information prior to Tuesday, so that they can focus on games/other stuff.

I really like the look of that pro controller - do want.

Aren't Miiverse and Mii Wara Wara the same thing?

So my though on this.

_I'm not shocked by the fact that they try to reinvent the wheel like their own cause everyone is doing that at some point. I just notice that my worry from 2005 is terribly true now. Nintendo can't just pick the cool innovation nobody was using anymore, so they'll have to deal with the same as everyone else, and that won't be as efficient.

_I'm still as worried about the absolute contradictory direction of the device. WiiU is for family, and designed primarily around the idea of everyone using the same device for many things YET WiiU is finally Nintendo's return to gamers! Iwata even succeeded in opposing precisely the two inverse philosophy for the console. WiiU is a warm and convivial link between family members in the living room YET it's an online door to a wonderful virtual world that will never let you alone in your room (and by the same occasion isolate you from the living room).

That's, here, is the exact problem. Those are completely different philosophy, for different market and need different product and marketing...

You cannot sell at the same time the traditional Nintendo physical conviviality and the complexity and philosophy of online hell. Cause as funny and cute they will make it, this thing with massive players everywhere messaging and sharing things will be a hell for any casual using the console.

Oh and also 4, four control method for the console! Bravo Nintendo.

Anyway i think i'm pretty clear. I think Nintendo wants to go left and right and still keep his balance... And Iwata was so obvious when he told us that the WiiU was not a Wii nor a new thing but both.. That illustrates everything.

http://youtu.be/9AkPdAWfFjI?t=22m23s <-- THis got me thinking..... Will we be able to stream video-game content to multiple people on a network? The thing that led me to believe that was how quickly people were able to respond to his loss. I think they might have been watching a stream of his gameplay.

Kids are a VERY small part of the overall video game audience, with the average gamer being 37 years old. And I'm sure there will be plenty of parental controls in there.

Squirrel suit = cape
It's got baby yoshis that act like P balloons

It's worth considering that anything in the text might just be sample things that people might chat about for the purposes of the mock-up of the social networking system in action, rather than content that's actually in the game. Take with a pinch of salt.

Not saying the game won't have these things, but it could easily all be placeholder stuff.

Did Iwata say 'concrete gameplay examples'? What does that even mean? This close to launch we should be expecting concrete demos of launch window games right? Not just slightly more polished versions of the crap we've already seen

You're gonna see a dickton of real games on Tuesday.

Wait for Tuesday. Today was always going to be about the concept of the console itself, and just small bits of information.

Do you guys think Damaged WiiU Hardware will be a launch game along with Zombie and Shield Pose?

Also, Nintendo needs to team up with niconico to stream "wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" across our games while we're playing.

Does NFC require specific codes or can it be adapted to things like Yugioh/Pokemon etc. cards? Would be insane if you could scan your real card collections and stuff. That would be massive.

what I also liked is that you can see when one of your friends or even strangers unlocked an archievement.

It can be a motivation like: "damnit, everytime when I see that level some other guy has that archievment, but I always fail" and you actually try to compete with strangers to also get the archievment
