OXM Rumor: Halo 2 Anniversary being developed

You should check out the Halo 2 Making of video. It sheds a lot of light on the situation regarding that E3 demo and the rushed crunch afterwards. The game had a super rocky development cycle the entire way through.

22:30 is where Joe Staten says they aren't going to see the sun for the next 5 or 6 months in February 2003. The game didn't ship until November 2004.

So anybody who isn't in the know about Forerunner Tank has lost their Halo cred, is that what's happening here?

You want a full run down? OK.

1) Forerunner Tank was mentioned
2) Guy made it obvious he's not familiar with it
3) Guy later claimed that, actually, he is familiar with it, yeah that's the ticket
4) Guy got called out

The multiplayer is the one part worth remaking, so naturally it will be the one part not included.

If they do half-ass the multiplayer like they did with Halo anniversary, at the very least they need to remake all of the maps instead of the 5 or so that the Halo 1 remake came with.

Iv watched that video once and i cant remember any of it. Its like 8 years old at this point or something.

C'mon dude, you don't remember a 30 second mention of a 8 year old level that was cut because it wasn't worth the trouble?

C'mon.

At least you weren't naive enough to think they'd put new levels into this remake. Becase.. you know... they won't.

C'mon dude.

Forerunner Tank symbolizes the awesome game that Halo 2 wasn't.

Forerunner Tank is the adjective we should use to describe anything
of majesty, beauty, and intensity.
Something that is simply fucking bad ass . . . is Forerunner Tank.

Halo 2 is probably my least favorite in the entire series. I never really got that grand adventure experience I felt like I had in CE, or even in 3 or Reach to lesser extents. I also didn't really like the Arbiter twist, not because I need Master Chief as the main character, but rather I just thought it was handled poorly, or at least not as well as it could have been. It definitely had its moments, but I just never fell in love with the game like I did with CE, and I never really even got into the multiplayer either.

With that said, I think this could do well. A lot of people would like to return to the game, but with new, upgraded visuals. Hell, maybe I'll play through the single-player again and change my mind on it.

I am curious as to how the multi-player will be handled. Obviously it's not going to be its own separate mode, as Bungie, and now likely 343 try as hard as possible to keep their newest main entry in the series as the focus multiplayer wise, so maybe we'll see some Halo 2 maps packed in with use in Halo 4.

Played Halo 2 this year on my 360 through BC. Found some glitches, but the game is solid. In fact, it was more pleasant to me than the first one (Anniversary Edition). The arbiter 'arch' is the best part, IMO.

According to a close-to-development source, 343 Industries has indeed discussed a Halo 2 Anniversary, following the success of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

“It’s been talked about, however I’m not will to say anymore at this time,” said our source. This is the same source that told us last June that “unexplained laps in time” would be used to incorporate Halo Reach elements, which it indeed does.

Previously, in an interview with IGN, Microsoft Games Studios vice president Phil Spencer said that they’re not trying to run a remastering center, but “[they're] not putting [Halo 2 Anniversary] out of bounds.” Before that, he said that they only did the Anniversary Edition because it was the 10th Anniversary, and it “made sense.”

“There are obviously some great Xbox 1 games that would be nice to see, but we’ve focused most of our resources on creating new things. I’m not putting it in or out of bounds right now, though,” said Spencer.

Fuck yeah, i love halo 2. Can't wait to play through the remake even if it still annoys me what they did to the story in halo 3.

I'd love for this to be true, even if the original's multiplayer wasn't brought back. Still the best story in a Halo game, even if the missions themselves have some rough edges. New graphics layer, tighten up some of the... less stellar segments of the campaign (keeping the story and cutscenes the same), rebalance the difficulty levels, and I'll buy it at a high price.

Halo 2 had an amazing story and voice cast, compared to the rest of the titles. :)

Im completely agree. Story was great cause it had dept, but the gameplay was easily the worst.

this. love halo 2. underrated campaign, awesome story, LOVE gravemind. also, reposting .jpg

...Great story? When did I hop to some parallel universe where the story in Halo 2 was considered great? If anything it was the jumping off point where the series decided to get up it's own ass a little too much.

Halo 2 easily had the best story of the series. Halo 1 was mostly about mystery, which was great too, but Halo 2 really crafted the universe and history. Halo 3 was a reaction to millions of people who didn't like playing as a mandibled alien.

I personally really like Halo 2 campaign. I admit I was disappointed at first because it wasn't what I expected. But, after going back and replaying it a few years later I can appreciate it for its own charm. The large forerunner sentinels were also a really fun enemy to fight.

This is yet another mistake that the Halo 2 campaign makes, Elites are really cool looking enemies and were really fun to fight in Halo 1, fans loved them, so did I. I wanted to know more about them and the Covenat in general, but that doesn't mean I want to play through the story from their fucking perspective.

I thought playing as the Arbiter was pretty fun. Don't get all the hate.

Indeed. IMO his partitions of the campaign were far more interesting than the Chief's though he also got mostly the worse levels (though his last two make up for it).
Halo 2's campaign's problems are it's too corridor-like levels, encounter desing was uneven (too many jackal snipers snipers) and some gameplay issues, like vehicle handling being shitty but otherwise it is a solid, good campaign, a lot of fun in co-op. Also, awesome collection of glitches (campaign glitches are OK, multiplayer glitches are not), it was so much fun to break out of the maps and explore the other areas.

Definetly want to play it again in co-op in high definition graphics and remastered sounds.

Halo CE remake made sense.
It filled the gap before Halo4, showed 343 cared for the series past etc...

Halo 2, On 360? But 720 is coming fast now? And why bother with a game that will be inferior to Halo4, presumably.
On 720? Will they make it look better than Halo4? Will they offer next gen MP through it?

Better use resources to put out Spartan Ops missions for a second year.

Best case, Halo2 remake comes out sept 2013 and Xbox720 in november.

Full 360 circle complete. Next gen anticipation for Halo 5 starts.

After slaughtering the Covenant in H1, reading about slaughtering them in 3 books, I wanted to do just that in Halo 2. Instead I had to play as the Arbiter and even sympathize for him? Really? I want to kill aliens as badass Master Chief, that is all the story I wanted or needed.

You know what, it's been ages since I played Halo 2. Let me give you the benefit of the doubt and look up a synopsis again.

Hahahahha. Nope. Just as dumb as I remember it.
