No words for this. Just a lot of raw emotion. I pray the families find a way past this.

Also, bravo to NYC for stepping up the security. I hope Orlando follows suit tonight.

I'm nearly came close to slapping someone at work who just asked me,

"Hey, did you know anyone there? No. Thank God. Are there alot of Muslims in Denver?"

"What."

"You know."

"The shooter is allegedly a 24 year old white male."

"He could have been converted."
You'd think such stuff would end after what Breivik did in norway

I still can't wrap my head around the brutality and inhumanity of this event.

Seriously. I'm having a much harder time processing that something like this could happen than I could, say, school shootings. At least in those cases, you can sort of understand why they'd happen...a kid gets picked on, they can't see that life goes on after school, and they lash out in the most terrible way possible. It's obviously not a justification by any stretch of the imagination, but, as I said, I can understand why or how it would happen.

But this...it's just too awful and random to even begin to understand. I mean, mental illness clearly -- hopefully, because the alternative is too sickening to contemplate -- played a huge role, but it's still all terrifyingly mind-boggling...

Just saw this on the news. I don't get it. What the fuck is the motivation for this? What kind of disgusting person shoots up innocent people in a movie theatre.

This is horrible. The place we go to escape having to think about things like this isn't even safe. This really saddens me, especially as a cinephile. I was going to see this movie this weekend but I don't know if I'm going to now. I'll be extremely uneasy the whole time and unable to focus on the movie. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families.

Man, this hits too close to home.

Early phone call from my mom, my dad and my grandmother. They know I love to go to movies. Can't even fathom how it was for people there.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

Then I would have to explain what Norway is and who Brevik is to this person.

RIP to the Victims,
I cannot fathom what would make some person do that?

I'm in total shock. My thoughts are with the families.

Some of the first-hand accounts are really frightening. Thinking about the muzzle flash from the rifle and how it would've created a strobe light effect in a dark theater effect gives me chills.

More updates:

If family or friends are looking for loved ones and can't get hold of them, the number to ring is 303-872-5292.

and from Frank Lansville at the Medical Centre, Colorado:
  • Started receiving paitents at around 01:00.
  • 15 patients, 12 with gunshot wounds and 3 with chemical related injuries.
  • Bullet wounds appear to be from high-calibre weapon.
  • Burned skin and eyes and respiratory problems from chemical injuries. All three have now been discharged.
  • Seven have been admitted to the hospital, and four went for operations urgently.
  • Those four are in critical condition at this point.
  • No fatalities there.
  • Two more operations are due.
  • One other patient has been discharged.
  • No-one younger than teenage at that hospital.

This sucks so bad, all this news. Thanks ChiTown especially for the good updates, I can't follow it easily here.

I implore everyone to not let the fear of one isolated incident impact their lives though, always sucks when I see monsters like this guy getting more power out of his actions through causing mass fear.

Man. How awful for those poor people. I hate people sometimes. What a coward and a sad excuse for a human this guy is.

The bickering and fighting is gonna be nasty with this one.

Hope everyone is ready to go through metal detectors to go to the movies for the rest of your lives.

Paris premiere cancelled from dutch news site.

Stupid if true.

Why is this stupid? They have to do it or take bigtime criticism. Hell Obama and Romney won't be campaigning today.

Also, I think that's like the premiere with all the stars and stuff. The movie will still open

Tragic, i'm glad they got him alive. he shouldn't get to just die in battle after this, he's a coward. He needs to live the remainder of his life in a cage.

My little bros in Colorado, Denver, everyone in the famila has been trying to call him including myself, but he's probably fast asleep. i have faith he's okay so i won't stress.

No offence but I don't think spoilers are the most important thing in this kind of situation.
Well to be fair he doesn't know anyone involved in this shooting. Is this sad? incredibly, it breaks my goddamn heart when this happens but a person can't get upset over spoilers? Takes a horrible piece of scum to spoil a movie in a thread like this.

As for this shooting it's just awful, do we know who this person is? what he looks like? did they get him alive?

I'm trying to figure out what chemical reactions people could have had from the tear gas, if anyone might now.
I tries googling a bit but didn't turn up anything.

I'm assuming asthma or respiratory problems could be exacerbated by it.
I've been exposed to it a few times though and can't recall ever being asked if I had asthma or any medical issues first, so I am curious.

Mostly disorientation, burning of the eyes, respiratory issues. Mostly enough for him to cause people to do the natural thing, which is to get up and try to get out.
