Gunman kills twelve at theater in Aurora Colorado

Completely irrational, but my wife and I are going to wait for the blu-ray.

I'm not sure we'll go this far, but my wife and I had planned to see this in a couple of hours here and it's hard to imagine that happening now. It's not a fear thing, just sickened by what's happened. There's no way we could enjoy the movie.

God shit like this is horrible. Really hope those injured pull through. My phone is blowing up with texts cause my GF lives in Aurora - thankfully she wasn't at the show last night. Fuck. Hope friends/family are okay ;(.

It is times like this you wish there was a police officer or a military veteran present. Someone to put the lives of others before their own.

There are police officers assigned to that theater, I've been there dozens of times.

The police responded almost immediately, but due to the tear gas they couldn't enter the theater. Anybody else that wished to "put the lives of others before their own" in that situation would have found it near impossible due to the tear gas.

Here's a news report on Jessica Ghawi,
KSAT 12 News has confirmed that a woman who recently moved from San Antonio to Denver was killed during the mass shooting at a Colorado theater Friday morning.

The parents of Jessica Ghawi informed KSAT of her death over the phone around 5 a.m.

KSAT has also learned a friend visiting Ghawi, Brent Lowak, 27 of Bulverde, was wounded in the shooting. Lowak's mother told KSAT 12 News that he underwent surgery but was expected to recover. Lowak's mother told KSAT 12 News that her son told her he saw tear gas and then heard gunfire. Lowak had originally planned to return to San Antonio on Saturday.

This wasn't the first time that Ghawi had been involved in a shooting. In June, she narrowly escaped a shooting in a mall in Toronto. She blogged about the incident, which you can read about here.

She escapes one shooting, only to die in another...that's just horrible. I feel terrible for her parents. Her friend is going to be traumatized from this, too.

What a fucked up story to wake up to.

I didn't even think of that. I wonder if this will cut into sales. I'm sure people are going to think twice about going to see any movie in general for a little bit at least. I was planning on seeing it saturday and I still do but it's going to feel weird.

Long term I don't think it will, but short term it definitely will. Of those that pass on seeing it opening weekend some will do so out of feeling unsafe, while the rest will just no longer be in the mood given the events and see it at a later time. They'll eventually go see it though.

What do you gain from it? Nothing. In fact, the shooter wins because this is basically what he was trying to do. Invoke fear into people

It's not about fear, personally. It's about listening to people describe someone walking the aisles of a movie theater and murdering people, in detail, and then sitting in the same kind of environment trying to be entertained. It's just too horrible, not too scary.

It also could have been the shooter himself or a totally unrelated person who went outside to make a phone call. The witness on Today this morning said the person looked at his phone before going over to the exit. Since the door led to the outside it's perfectly possible that the shooter left stuff right outside that door but didn't walk into the theater with it. Or he just kicked the door in, which is how some have been describing it.
Yeah, I remember seeing where someone said that an individual went through the door to possible use their phone.
I just doubt the accomplice purposefully letting him in story at the moment.
The police at the moment think the guy acted alone, so I will go with that over one witness who has just been through a traumatic event.

What are the odds that this guy is former military who was deployed to either iraq or afghanistan?
The fuck???

I'm expecting a few days before we have a chance to know what's in the apartment, if he was building anything else, what affiliations he has (if any).

I want to know why and when he planned it, if he just gave up peacefully he literally is a fucking psychopath.

So it's possible that someone opened the emergency door to let him in? Either intentionally or unintentionally?

Stop with this shit about letting him "win" if you dont see a movie for awhile. It's not win or lose. Its the safety of my family I don't care about movies that much that I care to go right now.

The risk of copy cats is up that's just a fact. Will anything happen? Probably not.

....just read about this. Totally disgusting and horrible. I'm overwhelmed with sadness for those who've lost their loved ones to this sociopath.

:(

Yeah I think I'll delay going to see it. Especially knowing roughly what part of the movie he burst in. It'll be in the back of my mind for sure.

I guess it's possible but it seems unlikely to me just based on the witness accounts. Remember how many co-conspirators Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold supposedly had?

I like how he handled this. Have any news sites carried his Facebook accidentally?

I feel like I would be accepting the requests and troll the shit out of these people who attempt to friend him.

"Yea, they let me out of jail because they couldn't make the charges stick, ha, ha, i got away with it and you can't do anything about it." and so on.

This is the part that I am not getting.
This morning I heard that he was dressed up and was in the theater the entire time.

I honestly think that the fire escape thing may turn out to be not true.

Yea I also think that may be the case. We will find out in the next few days.

you are relating me to a mass murderer?
am I getting this right?

can you guys take your bickering and personal opinions of each other to PM's? because no one in this thread gives a shit about your opinions on each other.

MSNBC had good coverage, i wouldn't stick to cnn, they basically say the same thing for 1:30 and go to commercial.

I think it wouldn't shock me if he was ex-military, as a lot of these kind of shooters in history have been. For example, Dimebag Darrel's murderer.

I just read a news report that quoted the Defense Department as saying he never served in the army.

As Sartre noted in his contemplation on Hell in No Exit, the true horror is other members.
Here I am in Colorado, three blocks from Columbine High School, where so many great kids I am related to

Let's keep the judgmental hindsight that wants to layer blame on parents, or anyone else for that matter, to a minimum. We are suffering out here, again. Just shut up if what you have to say is not supportive.

I mean, I know this is a popular internet message board, but isn't there any situation in life when your reaction to something is just supportive, and not really focused on getting your all-so-important opinions represented? Fuck.

I shouldn't have come here today...

How would he be able to walk into a theatre with 3 weapons, body armour and a gas mask? I assume there would be attendants in the lobby, even if he did go in after everyone else.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
FBI removed some items from dumpster outside the apartment.

And now the whole dumpster has been removed.

And now the FBI is going to make a statement from the apartment.

Will update as soon as I hear.

Isn't it possible that the killer was the person who got up and opened the door? His car was right next to the exit, he could have gone outside, changed into his gear and came back in.

per exMilitary comment: from the description of events it sounds like this guy had training of some kind, doesn't sound like your average amateur who just picked up a gun for the first time, doesn't automatically mean hes a PTSD Iraq vet but seems unlikely he had no experience at all

Another witness account, spoiler in there for people who might (however insensitive it may seem) complain:

William Washington, a Denver radio host who was in the cinema at the time of the shooting, said it was only a few minutes into the movie when it all happened. He said:
"
Anne Hathaway's character was in a meeting and all of a sudden there were lots of gun shots in the scene. But then they became very realistic, so much so my ears started to hurt.
"

William Washington continued: "Someone then shouted at us not to go into the lobby as the gunman was in there. They just shouted, 'he has a gun!' People were there with bloody faces. We were so confused as to what was happening. You could taste and feel some kind of gas in the air."

Reports say someone (or himself) may have opened an exit and he came in from there.
