Game sounds real hot.

Gimmmmmeeeeeee

The 1UP info also sounds really good too.

And I love Lightning. Can't wait to see Nomura's new design for her for this game.

So, are they going to explain the fates of every character in FFXIII-2 after the ending/secret ending? Caius? Yeul?

This is obviously the game Noruma was referring to when he said a project was preventing him from talking about Versus XIII much. But is he going to have to remain tight lipped until Lightning Returns is released?

That'd be depressing if so.

This sounds like the FF game I've been looking for. Considerable hyped for this, even more so because we can finally move the fuck on from FFXIII and get to Versus or something else.

From a story perspective, I simply can't see how they'll dig themselves out of the hole they put themselves in with XIII-2.

Combat sounds promising though. I'm also fairly sure the soundtrack will deliver. As long as we don't have another crazy J-Rock Chocobo song anyways.

With hundreds of years having passed, it's sorta like "ha ha I guess we'll just let XIII-2 end like it did huh." But maybe not. All that Chaos stuff, the world is basically timeless and without death, yeah? Seems like no matter how much time passes, no time actually really "passes." So she could still fix it all in the end.

Well, the world and that characters (excluding Lightning) are apparently new, so..
True, but even just Lightning herself is enough to turn me off. That's probably unfair on some level but...I just don't know man. Wish they were in a position to move on from the XIII games.

Can't have two action RPGs in the spotlight at once!

Yes I know. This scares the living crap out of me. It's saddening because i feel like the gameplay ideas are great. They need more time to iron this stuff out possibly and make it a very well-crafted game.

Less than 1 year? I'm very weary.
I certainly hope the framerate is stable and good even if they're going to rush it out.

But FFXIII-2's framerate was pretty iffy.

There are four main islands so watch them really be making a Zelda game lol
LOL.

Stone Tower Temple Redux. Lightning turns into a Zora, a Goron, and a Deku Scrub. Hahahahaha. Lightning will have an ocarina and everything.

Preeeeetty much. I like Lightning just about as much as I like the other FF mains, but not so much to the level that SE thinks we do, lol.

I'd be more interested if it was a Lighting/Noel tag team, if just so they can put the best character that's come out of this whole saga to good use.
If it starred Noel as well, I wouldn't have been as disinterested, actually. His attack animations are amazing; he's quick, and his blitz animations vary from one blitz to another. The only thing is that he might be less agile than her, but maybe that might make for some difficulty.

Wonder what Lightning's skillset's supposed to be like?

My problem with this game is with two things. One is that it's associated with XIII. I don't want it to be in the XIII universe. The gamplay sounds amazing. Make this something entirely new. Come on.

Second thing: dev time. I've said it before so I'll say it again. 1 year dev cycle sounds bad but when you're doing something like going from XIII to XIII-2, it's not that bad. Actually if this game was going to be very similar to XIII-2 then I would not mind the 1 year dev cycle. THIS GAME HAS VERY NEW GAMEPLAY MECHANICS. To create them, implement, and execute it to a very good degree takes time, time longer than 1 year. There's no way this game is coming out before August. I expect Q4 2013.

Well yeah, but we don't have a date or window, so late 2013 seems like a safe bet, if not later.

So are they not on Pulse or Cocoon? Considering the world has a different name, it's like Lightning just traveled to a new planet.

What makes you think Nomura will design her?

Given how they mentioend the eyes and the fact he only worked on certain Faces in XIII-2 makes me believe he will be marketing material and nothing more for this thing.

Lightning's roles in the FFXIII-2 DLC might as well have been one move each, anyway. Seems like this will play like an accelerated version of that, perhaps, including (perhaps) the reset-things-upon-failure-but-with-higher-stats stuff. That'd allow them to get away with keeping the size of the world pretty small, which I'm guessing will be the case.

Apparently it will wrap up that story yeah
I hope so.

Honestly, it sounds like they're just going to drop everything from XIII-2 and start over with just Lightning.
Yay, finish off a trilogy by dropping everything they did in the previous entry. Now I'm scared...

I'm just getting nervous as they made no mention of Caius, Yeul, Noel, or just exactly what is this new world (I'm hoping it is Valhalla merged with the real world).

hey what about versus

that game you announced in 2006

this is the fourth time I've used this post, XIII-2, XIV, XIV 2.0, and now LR XIII. What in the fuck.

The running joke should be "Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy XIII", because this essentially sounds like the game they promised in '06: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRhd66aheNM&feature=player_embedded&hd=1

The "Overclock" term was in the original trailer, wasn't it?

Also, is Toriyama the one who decides to dress up the girls in costumes? Because this is the fourth game he's directed where the lead heroine gets a bunch of costumes.

What famous pop idol is going to design the outfit this time?

The game was JUST announced....

I feel like I was screwed either way. Either we get this title and it was a spin-off meaning there would be ANOTHER XIII game. That or we get this game which is going to be hella rushed and probably be terrible. Ugh.

Hopefully more than just the tried and true Blitz, Ruin, Ruinga, etc that we've grown used to.

Then again, the playable V.Lighting from the XIII-2 dlc actually has a lot of original attacks based on her unique solo paradigms. I can't remember them off the top of my head, but they were pretty much better than anything Noel or Serah learned on their own. Wouldn't be surprised if they borrowed from that for this.

Sorry, I know FFX-2 and The Third Birthday, and now this, but what's the other one?

What may be surprising is the fact that the upcoming sequel's title isn't "Final Fantasy XIII-3", despite serving as a direct sequel to XIII-2 and (we're told) bringing the Etro-vs.-Chaos storyline of the XIII titles to a definitive close. This may not make much sense to you, the gamer who wants to have a consistent little row of game names all lined up neatly on your game collection shelf. On the other hand, it makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective: Lightning seems to command higher regard among many fans than the game she starred in. Why not give her top billing? Square's simply borrowed a page from its subsidiary Eidos' book, back when Lara Croft's name took top billing over the "Tomb Raider" title. (1up.com)

Looks like FFVersusXIII will be either announced at TGS 2012 for a Spring/Summer 2013 release (honestly how much longer do they need to develop the game) or a bleak 2014 release window....
