First Look at NEW RoboCop Suit

No, it looks like a generic modern update of ED that no military company would ever design let alone put on a battlefield.

Omni Consumer Products versus Omni Corps. The whole thing starts to fall apart from that change because it's missing the whole point of the film which was satire and a consumer company getting it all wrong.

I haven't been following this remake much, but doesn't that just mean that this film is focusing less on the rise and dangers of consumerism (as was more relevant and original in the 80s) and more on the rise of a permanent military state and militarized police force, complete with private contractors?

In that context, ED makes perfect sense as an overdesigned military-industrial boondoggle (complete with critical flaws) being sold to police departments that don't actually need it.

I think they've tried to iterate on modern riot police.

Which as a concept isn't that bad, but the result looks kinda bad.

Looks more like a suit than an actual robot. With the old Robocop it was easier to believe that the metal was actually him and not a suit.

In terms of satire that's much harder to pull off, and needs a much bigger suspension of disbelief than the original. That's if they even actually go through with it, which by how safe and familiar everything is looking I very much doubt it.

Also added a bit about how the design of Robocop goes completely against the original plan for the film which was to focus on his struggle with becoming a machine. When he already looks far more human than the original anyway the impact of that is going to be very muted.

I think the chances of any of this coming together well are slim to non-existant.

why does he have one real hand? Looks hella silly to me

In the original RoboCop they "saved the right arm," but are told to get rid of it. It's possible this is a reference to or carryover from that. Or he just took the glove off while walking off set.

Hey, I don't think the movie will be any good either, I'm just saying that shifting the themes and updating the style of technology to reflect our views of machines in the last 25 isn't necessarily ruinous.

No they don't. They want to but Bob Morton tells them to scrap it.

so that he can use his iPhone.

Lol calling it now. This Robo will use Windows 8

From everything we know this is obviously going after militarism.

I don't know what to think of this.

Why the fuck change the original design?

BECAUSE NOW HE HAS THE RIGHT HAND OF A MAN.

WE COULD ONLY SAVE HIS FACE AND HIS HAND.

AND SPACE MARINES ARE COOL.

(maybe. actor might have just been taking a pee.)

I wonder if they'll even have him attempt some sort of mechanical movement, or speech or they'll just pimp him up so much (because, you know our technology is so much more advanced that we have old style robot/human hybrids walking around all over now) that he'll just be walking and talking like a regular TOTALLY BAD ASS Poochie kinda way....

I believe it can be saved. Here's my (extremely rough) adjustment of the colors.

I dont want this, but maybe something like it..
If you ask me, the most iconic element of Robocop's design is his visor slit (which still appears to be there but it's not very prominent).

Looks too much like just a guy in a suit, unlike the original which actually looked like a machine.

exactly this. Don't like the new look one bit. MAybe they can jazz it up in production, but why put yourself in the situation to have to do that? Design a good looking suit. This thing looks like a piece of shit prototype that is probably sitting in some lab right now.

I'm not faulting the color or texture. Obviously, there will be a lot of post work done. Every recent movie that features a ridiculous-on-its-face outfit has looked like crap from stills: Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man, etc. I don't like the design. Remember, there's supposed to be a scene with a focus group rejecting other versions, one of which will no doubt be the original. This is the final, and I find it too derivative of things we've already seen in lots of videogames.

I like Koyuga's color update.

By itself, seems too plain. they need to the chrome/gray whatever in there like Koyuga's shop. Maybe some logos or something. Or a badge on the belt line.

IDK, doesn't look horrible, just plain.

Though, I wonder what they will do to in in post production.

ED-209 looks fine to me. I like movie transformers design kinda though, haha.

BUT, it looks more like the Decepticon designs, which where not my favorite.

Could look more flashy with color and not so sharp.

Well we know that, there's just big questions about if it can pull it off and it all looks far too safe so far to give much hope.

Also OCP was by definiton incompetent and out of their comfort zone, that's why it all worked. Omni Corps have to be efficient to the point of over-selling massively over-powered things to cities and not caring.

The satire would have to be even darker and more brutal to make it work, can you honestly see that happening with it?

Yeah it'd be nice if the movie itself was actually clever and awesome, not even having to rely on Robo to be in the shot.

I was expecting original Robocop with more detail and tiny bits modernized.

It's like they only left similar looking helmet.

One of the reasons I loved the original as a kid is because you felt that he still had all the limitations of being a machine, especially the scenes where they basically hijacked/disabled his body. This new design is far too generic - he looks like he's wearing some kind of Nano suit (G.I Joe, Crysis etc) which defies the whole point, and having it all in black just exacerbates it.

Oh, and if that ED209 redesign is legit I'm going to cry myself to sleep - That guy is iconic and his old design doesn't really look that dated or cheesy compared to Robocop (who I'll admit would need a bit of a design refresh, albeit nothing like what we see here).

Again, pretty sure this isn't THE suit. This has to be some kind of transitional suit to the real suit, or something. It's just so bad, I refuse to believe it.

This shit is pissing me utterly off. Some douchy rich awful person decided it's time to make even more money and shits things all over on the process.

Damn, imagine if it did keep the original's satire of consumerism and you had an Evil Apple.

So much to draw on. Notify him of an incident via your iPhone, view the prime directives on your iPad, view Robo's location, Robo uploads best kills automatically to YouTube. Like the shooting of the criminal you like best.

ED-209 runs on Android and struggles with updates as well as stairs.

That already sounds better!
