This is a pretty amusing show.

To start, I like the main character. She's spunky and pretty amusing. I do enjoy the different shifts in art that the series is basically throwing around with.
.

This show looks so cute.
I feel like I have to watch this.

Halcyon Realms – Animation.Film.Photography and Art Book Reviews » » The Borrowers + Yohei Taneda Exhibition Book Review
http://cdn.halcyonrealms.com/japan/the-borrowers-yohei-taneda-exhibition-book-review/

What a good coincidence that Vong Yonghow (blaureiter) found casually and reviewed recently that book presented above while this next week will be ending one of the last opportunities to see live such pieces of Yohei Taneda's works it features (http://pier-2.khcc.gov.tw/e_content/event/event01in.aspx?sid=9). Watching photographs of the guide/catalog is cool, but that 'little world' to explore is one of the things you must see in person to fully appreciate. To those fortunate Taiwanese people that can see it right now, know this... I have no envy at all... you hear me? At all...

That looks like a pretty amazing exhibit.

Been a little bit since we had a new greenlit anime announcement, huh.

Mermaid Comedy Manga Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san To Be Animated
The manga revolves about a mermaid named Muromi, her travels and her quirky personality. She speaks with a Hakata dialect and she thinks sea water fish are better than freshwater fish. She has a sweet tooth and loves sake. She's also said to have been living for thousands of years (although she has the appearance of a teenage girl with a fishtail).

Join Muromi on her adventure, as she gets caught in high school student Takuro Mukojima's fishing nets, as she meets more friends, new and old, and enjoy their weird but hilarious conversations. Or, you could just watch her bother Takuro on his fishing days with lame gags, just for laughs.

---------------------------

Takuro Mukojima is a lonely teenager who spends his time fishing at the pier and, to his incredible surprise, fishes up Muromi, a mermaid. Muromi first off doesn’t realize she's a mermaid until she meets Takuro. Not only that, she is incredibly dense and crazy and has a drinking problem to top it off. Now every time Takuro goes fishing, Muromi appears and makes life interesting for him.

Highly amusing first episode. One of the best things about it, for me, has been the fact that both main characters are cute. I expected her to be in her movements and actions, but I didn't expect him to be as well and that made a pretty nice episode even better.

Oh, the opening sucks!!! That left and right switch seems made to kill people.

So far, I can only remember 2 names of people in the show: Ringo and Imari. As such I can only say that I'm sorry for the little brother as he constantly gets flushed out.
Ringo's stalking seems to be taking a turn for the dangerous and I'm curious to see where it will lead.

Still has many of the same problems the manga has--overwrought dialogue and the awkward quoting of Shakespeare among others--but otherwise, it was a good episode and gives me hope for the show moving forward. It's the same set of events, but presented in a different fashion, at least from what I remember. Ando's direction and the strong production helps it distinguish itself from the morass of shows coming out this season.

The fight in the middle was great, too; great sense of motion, with a brutal end. The preview shows the spear-dude coming up so that should be cool as well. I don't have the same level of hate for the manga that duckroll does (it's more of a generalized sense of dislike and apathy rather than hate), so I'm hopeful that this could, indeed, turn out well. We'll know in a month or two when the series reaches that part.

You guys really know how to build up anticipation.

Maybe this is the story that Okada was born to tell (or re-tell actually)

So it's going to be a risque supernatural teen anime?

Can't wait to see everyone's reactions to Tempest when it starts to get more confusing than Horizon.

Saved by the likable lead in Nanami; she's cute and appearance-wise is certainly an improvement over the awful designs for the demons. The setup is basically Hayate with less loli and more elongated men.

OP is pleasant stuff. Kinda like the show itself, nothing remarkable but it's charming enough. I don't know if I'll be sticking with it but this ep didn't feel like a waste of time.

Even though the first episode of Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb seems better-budgeted than many a SHAFT show, there's still moments you can't help but laugh at.

Well, yes, but I've heard other people use the same line, which I find extremely confusing. Perhaps they've forgotten what anime used to look like?

Maybe their eyes just don't work altogether. It would explain a lot.

The character designs certainly don't look '90s. Not enough giant triangle chins, angular spiky hair, or lines drawn all over their faces.

Not a bad start. Story feels a bit heavy handed at this point, but may not be a huge problem as it goes forward. Main character treads the line between that super depressed mopey lead and having some personality. I thought I was going to hate him in his first few scenes, but he's shown enough of a spirit for me not to have a huge issue by the end. I really like how he's willing to rush into fights he knows he has no hope of winning. He doesn't just sit back and let people trample him, the trait in MC's of his style that I hate the most.

Of corse, the animation is the real draw here. It's pretty stunning. Ever shot is meticulously designed to get the most out of how pretty the show is. The way the camera moves is very interesting, yet natural at the same time. It definitely seems they realize that the source material is not very well received and are going to eek out any enjoyment they possibly can out of the style. My only problem was the CGI used in the
bolder monster rising out of the sea
clashed with the art of the rest of the show. Particularly on the shot of breaking chains.

I guess the question is, am I going to stick with it? I'm not sure yet. If this first episode is any indication, it's going to be another show with an atmosphere of oppressive sadness. Given we already have Shinsekai Yori, I'm not sure I can take two shows oozing sadness.

I didn't find that particular CGI as bad just because there was no cel animation in the frame with it.

Hot damn it starts with troll credits and endings on the first episode, and it's like it's never went on a break. (lol)

I really like the OP. Great song, great display of future events without outright revealing them, great faux symbolism.

As for the actual episode, it's also good. I do have a few gripes, like the facial expressions not emoting as much as I would like (minus the ending), or some rough patches in the animation department (a certain running scene being the worst offender), but the strength of the source carries it imo. There was also some censorship, but that's to be expected. I really like the anime character designs, though I always thought Ryuta had blond hair. Ah well.

I'll definitely keep watching this. Excited to see more strategic, Battle Royale bomb warfare! If the preview is anything to go by, they might be skipping around a bit, but that's cool with me.

Zetsuen no Tempest 1 - Nope.. did not like this, maybe I wasn't in the best state of mind to watch it, but I found the writing and tone to be overwrought and melodramatic to the point of annoyance as in eg trying to hard, and the weird thing is I usually like this kind of stuff too, maybe I'm getting too old for this shit..

Wish Ando was working on better material. because the overall production was actually pretty solid, and the music fit very well with the mood they were trying to execute, and let's not forget the action was pretty damn good too!

I think the biggest problem with the series for me, is there really is nothing here that engages me on a visceral or emotional level, so it's hard for me to care about anything that's going on.:( even if it looks pretty and shit.

I'm expecting the show to go to shit past the first two episodes anyway, so I'll probably drop it, I might consider picking it up again if it ends up staying consistent though.

GAF, I have a confession to make.

Despite my Miyako avatar, I never watched Hidamari Sketch. And I know I should. I feel like a nincompoop.

It's just a super-chill super-relaxing show that gives you what counts in droves. If you don't have a sense of inner-peace from watching cute girls be [REDACTED] and cute for hours on end, then I can't save you. Like PdotMichael said, you can start from anywhere really.

Seriously, I hope this syndrome isn't something real. I mean... I did things like that... before my 5th grade, but not after. That's were fathers are supposed to stablish limits, teach what reality is. Some people can relate to this... but I can't.

BTW, this show is certainly whatchable, for a KyoAni show. It's not a slice of life, so that's already a plus for me. The OP fucking sucks, it's epilepsy/seizure inducing.

The visuals are moeblob KyoAni shit that I hate, but the animations, visuals and sounds makes for it, so I'll keep watching. It's not as bad as I tought it would be.

You should watch Hyouka, it's the best KyoAni show.

I was too busy watching the keions. And now I'm behind like four seasons. It's something I would totally enjoy but it feels overwhelming at this point.

How can I properly respect SHAFT-style animation without blatant asset reuse from 2008?
The "Art Dept." sign and the mini-ep title format, among other things, date back just as far, but blend in better by modern standards.

You are becoming Turkish cajunator.

The completionist in me would kick me in the balls.

Just start at the beginning and enjoy the ride. It's not a show you need to rush.

I would try to tell you that it's not that much and not that bad, but yet again I marathoned about 80 episodes and a movie of Hayate in 2 weeks.

Best thing is to watch the show and take it super slow. Like an episode a week/two weeks or something. There's no hurry in every episode for a plot, so it's just kinda nice that it is.

Dammit. Bad writing is bad writing.

In the West we have Ernest Cline and the rather excellent Ready Player One. (actually we have a lot of pretty great fiction dealing with AR/VR)

In Japan, they have Reki Kawahara and his cross over harem VR light novels.

I feel bad for Japan.

Specifically, how can Accel World be so much worse than SAO, when that's the series that came afterwards?

The whole Chiyu
betrayal
thing makes me roll my eyes into the back of my head in the most extreme way possible.

She acts like a cold bitch, doing dumb bitch things
(reviving Noumi), and in the end justifies it by saying "I was just with him to level up my ability"

Is this writing for fucking real?!
You can't just have leveled up by playing the game normally?! Without the needless backstab and betrayal?!

Also, the number of Deus Ex Machinas in this show is absurd. Write your world logic and stick by it!

Having the 'Megumi' character come in out of no where to save their asses is the most literal form of Deus Ex Machina possible (her name is Megumi/Goddess, and she jacks into the machine to pull off her one off goddess move and then leaves the fucking story forever).

You know, making ranked lists is already fairly silly when we're only halfway through the season. Doing it before most shows have even aired is just ridiculous.
