New DmC: Devil May Cry preview, pretty positive

Anyone know if Dante still has Devil Trigger in this? And if Vergil is playable? Haven't been following this game at all.

Dante has Devil Trigger, but now Dante just pounds the ground and everyone floats while he wails on them and regains health.

Vergil is confirmed to not be playable. Perhaps through DLC.

Devil Trigger is in but its not like transitional DMC DT. Dante transform into original Dante (white hair, bright red jacket) but time also slows down after doing a slam that launches all enemies near him.

Vergil is not playable on the day1 disc but there are hints that he might be playable later on via DLC or PC version.

Someone posted the Achievment list in the Demo thread. Looks like there are two weapons other than the ones that have already been revealed. One is called the Aquila; pretty sure it's melee, but it looks like a thrown weapon. The other is a ranged weapon called Kablooey; looks like a grenade launcher or flare gun. BTW, spoilers

New weapons?

JUST BRING IT ALREADY!!!

Spoilers in that achievement list.

Aquila looks either like a tri chuks or a 3 pronged boomerang like Tiras weapon. Most likely angelic in origin.

Lmao @ Fill your dark soul with light achievement.

Followed by a really canned, "Not so tough now." When Dante turns around he makes the biggest barf face too, lol! I guess it's that Unreal Engine chunk-look. He does just look like the biggest boner.

He has a serious case of Banana Mouth going on!

At least we can't say they don't acknowledge the game's lineage -___-

Oh fuck. :(

Those achievements are shitty way to spoil the game.
Yea I totally did not expect
Vergil to go full heel on Dante after the Mundus fight.........

/sarcasm

Looks like my prediction of 5 devil arms and 3 firearms ended up being true. So much for pushing critical mass on weapons.

Chamber

love on your sleeve
So now it's not different enough? Really?

And to answer your question, it's playing to the action/adventure gamer crowd. The same groups that played Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, GoW, and any other good action/adventure game that has a sizable player base. The hardcore DMC fans aren't the be all end all of the audience, despite what you all want to believe.

If that answers your question, anyway.

It doesn't. None of that explains why Capcom would run two DMC franchises at the same time.

Wait, video games journalists are pretty positive on it? The same game journalists that all gave DMC4, Enslaved, and Bayonetta the same average metatcritic scores?

Oh yeah, anyone could see that one coming. What I was talking about were the other things. I would've liked to have seen some of those for myself in the game.

Yep, pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Completed all missions on Hell and Hell difficulty

Fuck.

That wasn't hard at all in DMC4 (and even if you weren't good enough, you still had 3 lives + continues), there were achievements a lot harder than this one (getting S's in all the game modes, finishing the bloody palace). I doubt they'll ramp up the difficulty in this game.

Isn't H&H one shot death for you and enemies have normal health?

Yes, but in DMC4 you had 3 "lives" before the game was over... and the difficulty was set to Son of Sparda, not Dante Must Die. H&H was actually easier than DMD mode when it came down to it. We don't know the circumstances surrounding this H&H.

DMC4s acquire 1 million proud souls achievements was bull shit. Thank god there is none of that in this game.

I killed Sanctis probably a few hundred times.

It was Heaven and Hell in DMC4, one hit kill both ways. This seems like one hit kill for you but not the enemies.

I do like that they are putting in hard achievements atleast!

Difficult wasn't even DMD and as long as you didn't cheese your way through with items and worked on your S ranks. By the time you unlock it, you'll be far beyond it.

Achievement Hunters sweating bullets at H&H.

Rest of the achievements are easy enough.

Mark my words. It won't be hard. H&H probably won't be DMD mode and you'll probably have continues. DMC4's achievement list made most games' a cakewalk. This one won't even come close.

They had the same health as in the Son of Sparda mode (so after you've played through DMD it seems really simple in comparison). You die in one hit but you have 3 lives, and you have continues available to you as well (that take you back to the last checkpoint). Normally by the time you would do this mode you would have already finished the game 3 times (Normal/Son of Sparda/DMD) so you if you still got hit more than 3 times between each checkpoint, you were probably playing it wrong.

Edit:

It was Heaven and Hell in DMC4, one hit kill both ways. This seems like one hit kill for you but not the enemies.

Nope, Hell and Hell was already in DMC4, and it wasn't hard.

Oh right, that doesn't sound too hard then. Imagine if it was on DMD mode haha.

I never said it would be hard. In fact in the preview where they discussed the difficulties it was only DMD in which it said "toughest enemies". DMD mode will still be the hardest difficulty setting and H&H will scale to a lower difficulty.

I would love it if H&H scaled to DMD mode though.

There's a surprising number of secret missions. We could very well have a great amount of normal levels to play through. This could very well be a lengthy game.

OH SHIT that and "For Tony Redgrave" were my favorites, I need them!

So yeah, 5 melee weapons. Now I'll agree that it's a lot less than expected.

Secret Missions are probably just combat or platforming rooms. A simple room of enemies. Kind of reminds me of DMC2's Secret Rooms... *shudder*

I'd rather have 5 great weapons with good depth than 7 or 8 weapons with less complexity. It's a respectable amount.

Also, that's still more weapons than DMC4 had.

That's technically less than DMC4 as combining Neros arsenal DMC4 still had more (Lucifer, Yamato, Gilga, Rebellion, Red Queen, EI, Shotgun, Pandora, Blue Rose). Also less than DMC3. Game also doesn't have styles either so this is looking like the amount of options in the game is less than the previous two games.

So basically exactly like every DMC secret mission yet?

Why would you lower your standards? There should be 7 or 8 with great depth, not with less complexity.

Actually, if you count Yamato, it's exactly the same number of melee weapons that DMC4 had.

Some Secret Missions forced you to learn Royal Guard timing or enemy step. Or use your new skills in creative ways to build style.

I was speaking only about the melee weapons, and I didn't include the Yamato because both instances of them in were tied to very specific states for Dante and Nero (Style and DT, respectively) and not for free use like the others.

Yamato should be counted for Dante since we're talking about end game. And Dark Slayer style looks to have just as many options as Arbiter so far, so I'd say it counts.

Just noticed, no Bloody Palace achievement. I hope it doesn't mean we won't get one, they already hinted at it several times.

But we don't have any training mode or artworks achievements as well, so I should stop worrying...

Yamato for Dante is about as freely available as an angel or demon weapon is in DmC. I didn't double count Yamato for Nero, as far as I am concerned he has only 2 weapons.

Maybe, but after the DLC costumes being unlcokable in-game, I don't think they would do that.

Unless it also comes with playable Vergill, then I'd buy it.
