Nexus 10 |OT| Google's 10-inch tablet developed by Samsung

The Nexus 4 and the refreshed 7 seem to be stealing a lot of its thunder.

I'm definitely excited.

I think at £269/$350 it would really have put the cat among the pigions. Plus reviews have generally been down on it cause of it's "inferior ecosystem compared to the iPad" honestly it seems some of the reviews for the N10 were written before they even got the device.

Also I think the lack of being able to pre order and the general lack of info about release has dampened people's enthusiasm about the N10.

I wasn't keeping tracking of the N7's release. Were reviewers down on the perceived lack of apps for it?

Arstechnica published their review:

Yeah, they bring up the official Twitter app (use Plume, seriously).

Im looking forward to the GAF impressions. Who's ordering?

I think I may pick one up locally. Walmart's holiday return policy means that I'll have until early January to decide if I want to return it. Plenty of time to see whether the collection of Android tablet apps improves.

Android needed a strong product to drive tablet app development. That product is now here. Let's see how the developers respond.

Google needs an event like the Google I/O to hand these out for developers to get on it. With the Windows ecosystem now ready to compete, I don't think even a device like this would change the tablet app situation for Android.

Device seems cool though. When will people start getting this and trying to prove to themselves that they can/cannot discern the difference against the iPad Retina Display? I await youtube videos.

the problem is Google handled the resolution issue in Android too well many years ago. Apps just don't look hideous when displayed on a tablet so there isn't real incentive to do work to make them look good.

I didn't have any luck spot checking a couple of Walmarts over the weekend. Not a big deal to wait another day, but it would have been fun to find one. My dad told me last night that he's replacing my mom's Xoom with a Nexus 10 as well. I thought that he was going to get her an N7, but apparently she likes the 10" tablet size more.

So now I'm officially on the hunt for two Nexus 10 tablets, starting tomorrow.

Same here, looking for two tablets this holiday. I hope the flash apk will continue to work on 4.2 in Firefox... If not, it's a deal breaker for me.

Same here, since from my understanding with Flash installed I can browse my Amazon Prime content onto the sexy screen of the Nexus 10.

Nexus 10+Prime+Micro HDMI=Amazing.

So are we expecting this to actually show up in stores tomorrow?

Staples seemed to have an ample supply of the 7 when it launched. That's how I got mine.

So what is Walmart's policy? Early January seems like a good opportunity for me to also test the 10" waters. I had an iPad for a few days before returning, but I'm willing to give the Nexus 10 a longer look.

Their policy is 2 weeks for tablets.

However, for all purchases made from now until Christmas, the return period does not begin until 12/26, so if you buy tomorrow, you effectively get an 8-week return period.

When did this extended time period begin?

I phoned HMV and they didn't have any so I didn't bother going to PC World.

I've ordered a 16gb from the play store. I had to cancel the first order as I was rushing through and wrote my home postcode on the delivery address that I'd set to my work address. D'oh.

Now to wait and F5 the order page to check when it gets shipped out.

From my experience in the UK I think the Play store might be your best bet. Especially if your after the 32gb version as that sold out in literally 10 minutes.

Good luck though.

I'm going to abuse the walmart return policy with this thing. I've owned a netbook, iPad2, N7 and if I don't find this replacing my N7 for daily use, I'll return it and keep the N7.

I checked two Walmarts this morning and neither had any idea when they would see it. No major retailer websites are showing it either.

The hunt continues.

Just saw a post on the Android Central forum that says it will go on sale in the Play store at 9 a.m. PST/12 p.m. EST.

Yep. I'm giving up on the local search. Literally NOBODY has a clue when it will show up, whereas they had Nexus 7s around here on day one. I'll try and order one on the Play Store when they go on sale. If I can't get one, I'll start looking locally again tomorrow, but I think my best bet is an online order right now.

I called our local Wal-Mart and actually got someone on the line who knows about the product. He looked up the SKU, and said they are scheduled to receive 2 today, both 32GB models. He saw nothing on the 16GB, and did not see any other deliveries scheduled for this week.

I tried another Wal-Mart thats about 25 minutes away, and actually got the Wal-Mart answer I expect. He had no clue what to look for, since he works in the pets department and the employee that works electronics quit this morning.

Yeah, I'll order it online, and if I can find it at a B&M in the next couple of days before it arrives, I'll just send it back to Google.

I'm not familiar with the android market for productivity apps. Is it good? I'm thinking about buying one of these for my mom for Christmas.

She wants to be able to access and transfer word, and possibly power point documents from this device to her pc. Is this possible? Although I'm more concerned with Word, so hopefully a docking keyboard is available soon. She'll take this on business trips so she'll need more than the virtual keyboard to type on.
