Went to Toys R Us at opening because of the buy 1 get one 40% games. A line of 5 people. I was offered a slip for a console but I have it paid off at Gamestop. They had 7 total 32gb systems for non preorders. If you get to stores at opening it looks like you have a chance to get one.

I had to deal with a true idiot at Wal-Mart (surprise) in picking up my layaway. There were shenanigans on our end (adding my friend's employee discount to it) but it was like 98% this woman's sheer human ineptitude. That's the future of this country, sadly. "Forward," they call it? Oh well.

Forty minutes later and 10% off, I'm at home AND THIS SYSTEM UPDATE IS KILLING ME WHY GOD WHY?

Yep mine took roughly 1 hour now it's patching all my games Black ops 2 has an update so far 15 mins into that one..

This is hella slower than any PS3 game patch. Are they using 3DS's as file servers??

..and I think PS3 patches are intolerable compared to 360 patches. Seems MS is the only company that can get this right.

Anyway, too many stories of "queued up, did this" and not enough hands-on experiences! I've got two weeks to wait for it here in the UK, spill the beans!

Wii U Story

Yesterday I checked to see if I could get the system early at Target and Best Buy, but it ended up them saying "not till tomorrow". So, I went 30 minutes early before Target opened at 8:00 AM and waited until the store opened. At 10 minutes left before the store opened, I sat down on a thingy on the side and waited near the door. There were at least 9-10 people waiting and I didn't know what for, but I just assumed it was for the Wii U. This is my first console launch ever, and I've heard stories of how they can be, even if I live in a huge city that usually has games I want all the time.

Anyways, when they opened the door, a guy went in quickly and began walking at a faster pace. I knew this Target pretty well so I played off walking in a nonchalant way, then when the person turned right, I immediately sprinted my way through the clothing section like a cheetah on the prowl. I ran faster than I've did in a while, and I made it there before the other person did. While I was on the final lap, the person at the register saw me running like a crazed person and said "So I take it you want a Wii U?" and I said "Yes" before I laughed while kinda embarrassed. He goes to get the box and shortly after tons of people and all those people outside are lined up there, I was the first one to nab a Wii U there, and luckily I did it before having to wait in the huge line.

So, victory for me!

Ha Ha, grabbed a deluxe set from Best Buy with no preorder. Man I got lucky. Gonna wait till Christmas to open it though.

0/2 here on the deluxe. TRU only had 5 and I was seventh in line :(. Many people walked away including myself after deluxe tickets were taken. Target was sold out of the deluxe when I arrived minutes after opening but they still had basic sets available. I think I will try Costco next.

I thought the new controller was a joke, but after using it I have come to the conclusion it is fucking awesome. Damn you Nintendo and your infinite wisdom.

You guys, I need pressure. Do I open the second WiiU I bought or sell it?

Put a cool hat on it and use a picture of it wearing it for selling it.

Maybe throw some balloons and streamers and confetti in it too. Make it look like it's having a ton of fun.

Did you open the first one? Why would you open the second?

I really need to sleep...

Updating! Any more word on Call of Duty Blops 2 and lag? I can go grab it while the system is updating. Still not sure if I'm going to jump in.

Easy pick up at my local Target. Will gift the one coming in the mail.

Currently updating, looking forward to buying some eShop things and trying Mario soon.

Caved, got a Pro version.

Wanted to get a controller as I have 4 Wii Remotes but NONE of them are Motion+, but didn't want to spend $43.

BUT

TRU has FlingSmash, WITH Wii Remote +, for $25. AND it was buy one get one 40% off. So I just got two Wii Remote + controllers and two copies of FlingSmash for less than the price of one single controller.

REAL LIFE CHEAT CODES DO EXIST.

Yeesh... that update took at least an hour. Now I know what the people complaining about slow PS3 downloads feel like (never had slow speeds, myself).

oh. someone should have came out to talk to people. here. when i went i asked if there were any available to buy. they went to check. told how many were preordered and how many they can sell without the receipt. they kept coming to check to make sure everyone knew. and they remembered we were guaranteed a system for those that were there early. it was easy.

Oh there was this lady who came. she sounded piss drunk. LOL. she was like "I'M HERE FOR THE WII. THERE'S NO WII? I CAME FOR THE PINK WII AND AN XBOX. I CAM FOR THE XBOX FOR MY SON, PINK WII FOR MY DAUGHTER. I CAN'T LEAVE WITHOUT A WII" it was funnier if you were there.

Update did take forever, and I have an okay connection. So far my only impressions is are that..

1. Screen on the Game Pad looks great for 480p
2. Menus move rather slow.

From streams it seems fine; theres only like 60 people online though lol

That has me a little worried too. Finding people to play after a while. With the other consoles it's not a worry since there are a zillion players out there on a zillion consoles. Wii U only has about 500,000 to a million of these things in the wild.

Depends... I spent more than 5h on a Minna no Golf update (and a lot of >1h updates).

It's an update on a launch day, a huge number of people must download it at the same time... I'm not really surprised. It's unfortunate they wasn't able to ship a console with an up-to-date OS, though.

Same here! I wanted white, but the value (stands, game, etc.) on top of the two year discount? NO CONTEST.
So does Nintendo just know if you're using a Deluxe model, do you just need to sign up for for a NinID with the deluxe or is there a code?

I'm curious if you could sign up on a Deluxe then switch to Basic later on and keep the rebate program.

Apparently the lady I spoke to at target yesterday was mistaken. They only got 8 Wii Us, not 32. Seems like everywhere I called they only got a shipment of 4 or 8. That seems small but I don't know what the usual is. It seems like a super walmart in the city of denver should get more than 4.

In anycase it seems pretty clear this thing wont be available to buy today for anyone that didn't preorder. No biggie since the launch lineup isn't the hottest, but knowing Nintendo there will not be a price drop for a very very long time, so I figured if i was going to get one, why not get it sooner than later.

Oh well. Get to save my money for now.
