I don't recall Namco ever promoting the Eilte Knight as the main hero for Dark Souls.
umm..vehicles?
v-e-h-i-c-l-e-s?
lol i wonder how they gonna pull it out.
What about a morrowind to skyrim level of dumbing down??
If that happens gaming is truly dying
I bet they're going to start highlighting the important bits of text ala Zelda. Then we're going to get nice shiny glowing doors to tell us where to go next. We'll probably have a crow buddy that'll sit on our shoulders that will fly in the direction we need to go after we clear an area.
They probably need a button that shows the path of where to go too....just in case we get lost.
It sounds to me like Miyazaki relinquished director roll for the dlc and patches to start work on his next title.
Leaving the new directors for the dlc.
If this is indeed the case, they can be trusted to deliver a great sequel. The dlc was probably the best dlc or expansion I've ever played.
Riding enemies were actually planned for Dark Souls. There is concept art for darkwraiths on horseback. Horses and chariots actually fit perfectly within Souls. It's something that's been missing so far.
Fuk Namco! Please From go back to Sony or something....
Art looks really nice.
Sony the ones who had no interest in bringing it to US?
Keep it to Namco or Atlus.

Poor Atlus. They took the risk on Demon Souls and got screwed on the spiritual successor cause they didn't have the money to compete with Namco and out of sheer good will have kept the dedicated servers running longer than planned for then fans long after the franchise is out of their reach.
Yeah if the world was more vast it could work. Horse riding fit perfectly with SotC. It could work in DS2 if implemented properly.

Oh? I didn't know that. I don't feel too bad for Sony cause the didn't have much faith in Demon Souls outside of Japan. I don't think it was a bad decision for From obviously going with a giant publisher was probably the smarter thing to do. I just worry about the direction Namco will try and take the franchise.Poor Sony also?
Namco did publish Demon's Souls in Europe, so choosing them for Dark Souls doesn't seem like a giant backstab to me.

Being on a ship or boat is definitely something we are considering. But being able to control one is not in the works.
IMO there will be character creation just whosoever you create as one will be the 'hero'.Interesting. After reading the article a few times, I am definitely leaning towards the game having the one main character - I don't think there will be character creation

Not necessarily.Man, looks like we might have one of those openings with a lot of action, where you've got five swords and things are exploding left and right.
I liked starting in a lonely jail-cell without any equipment...
They suggest a more scripted earlier part "with less options" and kind of a sudden point in which the true Dark Souls experience starts; all of which would fit into my idea there. That would be the optimal way of handling it, in my view. I don't mind if they flesh it out and make it easier to understand. I just don't want the 'soul' of feeling helpless at first sucked out after the game gets going.
Of course and it's not that bad if you factor in that all the Souls games have a CGI intro anyway (and a tutorial) this way you'd actually play the intro/prologue and not be forced to redo the tutorial in subsequent playthrough (as seen in Demon's Souls). If said prologue is optional and ends with the gruesome death of the character you played as, I'm on board.
I really hope that's the case. It just seems like they are really pushing this 'knight in blue armor'...

I'm just airing hopes and fears. Definitely not going to proclaim anything. Just not what a lot of us wanted to hear in that interview and given the way the industry has been going with the dumbing down of franchises its just scary.Sure. They better release some gameplay vids soon to calm fans down, as this EDGE interview doesn't seem to be doing them any favours.
Like it or not without Sony this IP would have never existed. They pitched it first to MS if I am correct, they chose that Ninja game instead.
Hail sony, marketing sucked tbh
Is this true?
If so, LOL
Probably a good thing if true.
Imagine if Demon's Souls had been a 360 exclusive? It would have sold like ass and we would probably have never seen Dark Souls.
Alright but think Demon's Souls with Kinect, for just a second.. amazing.

doesnt sound as bad as some made it out to be. Im confident that making it "more accesible" for a japanese dev is far from what someone immediatly thinks when they say "accesible" in the west.
I'd rather the world were not any larger than it was in Dark Souls. Dark Souls's density was one of its more impressive feats, and even then it could take a while to get from A to B before bonfire warping. I'm okay with certain areas (like, say, the Kiln of the First Flame) being open enough to allow for mounts, but sprawling open fields would be an unfortunate addition.
-The unknown nature of the games came from Miyazaki's interest in western fantasy/mythology and his relative inability to read the English text as a child, leaving him to fill in the blanks.
This is... actually a good point. I don't think I've played a Japanese outside of Skyword Sword that had absolutely ridiculous handholding.
It's still really troubling to hear. I mention this in one of the other threads too... the last time FROM said something that sounded terrible it actually ended up being worse then anyone could have possibly imagined (regarding the PC version).
Just read the whole article, didn't really care for Edge's style at all. They seem to be playing the "Miyazaki is gone abandon all home" too much, when the actual answers are a lot less dooming. I dunno why, but I get the feeling it's more Edge's exploiting Miyazaki's departure, than any actual drama...
Also, some of the highlighted points like the vehicles or the karma system are actually less big that they appear to be when bullepointed. Like, they mention the chariots but when talking about enemies, and Shibuya specifically says that they're not planning to have player-controllable boats (so maybe just a means of fast-travel or something like that?). And the karma sounds kinda like sinning in Dark Souls, they say if you do enough evil things you'll get chased by a special enemy, but doesn't sound like you'll have a karma tracker or anything like that.
I kinda feel that the worrisome part comes a lot for how Edge's putting this together, but that quote is still there, so there is undoubtedly cause for concern.
I'm usually not adamant to change, but this is a series that is so subtle that it can go to hell very easily if not full thought out...
Wow. That's interesting. And Dark Souls is, by far, the most interesting game story-wise by far, far in recent years on consoles.
Probably a good thing if true.
