Soul Sacrifice (Vita) Demo impressions

Is the lack of bilinear filtering on the ground texture an artistic choice, old code or hardware limitation? It looks ugly as hell.

I dunno..but look at the pillars thingy on the right here

part of it have proper textures, so I really don't think it's by design.

my guess it's missing from the demo version either because devs fucked up the demo build or because of a bug or something(like bioshock 1 Big daddies on PS3)

Ah okay done with Cerberus for now! Tried netplaying it like 6 times with 4 people, can't beat it. Health goes down to like 1/5th but then last person dies.

Still have no clue what to do in ghost mode and everyone's weapons run out mid battle!

Each power has a limited use number. It's the first stat on the right hand column when you're arming powers.

Both ice and arm transformation are 4 uses I believe. You can repair broken skills after a mission using tears. Blood bullets are unlimited, but they suck your health.
Is the demo as genuinely awesome as the videos make it out to be? It's honestly been awhile since a gameplay video has completely sold me on a game. Plus the menu music sounds incredible.

Fuck I can't even remember the last time I've been this genuinely excited for a game.

So first impressions after an extended session :

1: Art style is beautiful
2: Music and atmosphere is top notch
3: Game runs extremely smooth
4: Exploration is very limited, hero fights historic battles in small arenas via the book node

All in all I like it, but I was expecting more of an open world. At first I was cursing at the combat, but very relieved there is a lock on via the left trigger.

Its very much like monster hunter but there is no exploration or gear hunting that I have seen. All in all I think people will like it. Its a bit different however from what I expected, but it should provide a good experience!

Looks pretty cool to me. I just hope that it does not play like monster hunter. Never could get into that series.

That's not a bug, they're just using point sampling on the textures. It's probably a performance tradeoff, the game is throwing ALOT of particle effects and seems to run really smoothly.

I doubt this will change for the final release, it's been like this since the game was revealed 8 months ago. I'm fine with it, it probably won't look too bad on the small screen.

Beyond that, what sort of character progression is there? Gear, levels, both? Are there different fighting styles?

Character progressions seems to be levels and you get to choose either blue or red powers each time you drain a corpse. I am guessing most of the progression is via the spells and the sacrifices...

Thanks.

SS's Grinding is not about luck

you use different types of monster's Soul or Life
(Kill or Save) to upgrade power, defense and resistance.

every different level "drops" diffrent types of magic seal.
you can upgrade magic seal to make your magic.

or combine them to create even more powerful magic.

every level needs 1- > 2- > 4-> 8 -> 16 -> 32 -> 64 and more
not sure what is the Max level is yet.

you have 6 Magic Seal slots
and most of Magic has two skills

you have 5 places to place your "Mark"
bottom 3 and top 2 has different Mark choices

So it sounds like magic is where the customization of the game is.

So it sounds like magic is where the customization of the game is.

While it tries hard to distinguish itself from Monster Hunter, if I force MonHun analogy to this game, "spells" in this game roughly translates to "weapons" of Monster Hunter.
You need some resources to repair them once they are overused, and you can "sacrifice" (or loot, carve in MonHun terminology) to get new spells. The resources can be fused to new spells, which is like upgrading your weapons in Monster Hunter.

Sounds neat!

The art design is so twisted... not sure if want.

At least it's distinctive.

I need to go play some Kirby or something now to cleanse

I feel the same way, but it doesn't look like anything in the actual game is as disgusting as the concept art.

the progression in the game comes from leveling up light power (defense) and dark power (attack), and collecting magic, and upgrading it. Each chapter drops a specific type of magic (from an existing loot table) based on your score, so there's still that loot element.

Each creature's soul during the sacrificial process isn't just "level up white, level up dark". Sometimes you'll have the choice of "Light = +6 Light EXP, -2 Dark EXP, Dark = +2 Dark EXP".

There's also some looting that comes from collecting components to create tattoos for your character's arm (each slot has several choices that give different passive bonuses)

So actually, there's plenty of loot. Let's not spread misinformation.

Yes! Yes it is. I'm fucking loving the game. I hope they do what most MonHun style games do on portables, and allow you to use your demo save in the full game, so you don't have to redo stuff to get access to the multiplayer.

Already confirmed that your save file carries over with bonuses too.

Great news. I figured that would be the case, but you can never be sure sometimes...

I was playing online just now, and instead of reviving my teammate when they died, I did this to them instead:

It did heavy damage to the boss, but I felt kinda bad afterwards. :\

ok finish download it and played it - please bear in mind I don't understand a thing about japanese.

It was really fast pace and hard. I tried charge attack with an axe so many times but somehow the enemy keep focusing on me. And there're tons of customization that I just don't get it. It was really fun though I can see myself tried so many different kind of thing with the magic.

Does this have a release date for the US and/or EU yet?

Thinking of re-buying a Vita and these positive impressions are pushing me further in.

Did they screw with you afterwards in ghost form?

Just arena battles? That's a bit of a bummer. Maybe just for the demo? Rest looks ace though.
