B...but... Noel...
I'd personally love a narrative focusing on Noel and the aftermath of what happened at the end of the last game, but obviously SE doesn't want to give me what I would be interested in.

Just like how they don't want to give me Bravely Default. :((((

Nor do they want to give us Type 0... and Versus XIII... and KH 3...

This is the first time I've ever seen someone favor Serah over Noel. We're talking about them as characters, right?

Absolutely. I didn't care much for Serah in the first one, probably because she was in a crystal for 75% of the game, but in the sequel she really became her own unique character and I liked that. Noel was ok most of the time but he was annoying during certain parts of the game, especially with his fit against my boi Snow. I did like his relationship with Serah and Mog and his relationship with Caius and Yeul though but I don't think I could handle a game with only him as protagonist. Serah balance out his blandness a bit.

EDIT: Well maybe I could deal with a Noel only game as long as Mog is with him.

Hey, I would pay to see Male characters showing more skin...
Primarily Snow.
Not Hope tho

Fuck Hope.

Snow probably got a body fit for a Real Man™.

No wonder Serah is hooked on that. Not even her time with Noel makes her forget about the Real Man™.

Did you not read his post about paying to see female characters showing skin?
This is what we have become, evidently. -_-

I don't necessarily think he was bland, but at least he was more down to earth than a few of the other FF13 characters, and that's what I enjoyed the most about his characterization and role in the narrative. Him giving Snow a piece of his mind and saying everything I thought of the character was rather lovely.

And Mog is gosh darn annoying. No thank you.

Lightning Returns, more like Diminishing Returns. Didn't FFXIII-2 only sell like half of FFXIII?

I don't even care how great this supposedly sounds or that they're apparently borrowing ideas from Majora's Mask (easily one of my top 2 favorite Zelda games). At this point I'm just so goddamn sick of Lightning.

It's like your girlfriend trying a new recipe for dinner one night and you don't particularly like it, but whatever. Then she makes it again the next night, and the next. Then she swaps out your bag lunch for work with leftovers of that recipe and it gets to the point where you just have to dump your girlfriend.

Sorry SE, it's not me--it's you. I'll holla atcha when you have something to say about Versus, maybe.

PS: Also the trailer did look really dumb and awful.

I like that comparison, it fits spot on. I bought FFXIII-2 but it's certainly dumping time with Lightning Returns.

I think that's probably my disconnect with Noel. Him being down the earth is probably one of the reasons why he comes kind of bland to me sometimes. That seems like a weird criticism but I usually like characters that has unorthodox personality traits. Probably explains why I'm part of the 1% of people who doesn't mind Asbel. I didn't really see what Snow did wrong to warrant such aggression from Noel though. He went out to get her sister and protect his family, I can dig it.

Mog is the lighthearted comic relief of the game so I liked that about him.

EDIT: Or her. Don't know if Mog is a he/she/or it.

Ah, I see. I personally couldn't stand Snow in either game. To me he was all brash thickheadedness -- sincere, sure, but with little of the charm which comes with the archetype -- and so Noel's more level-headed approach, especially when he lost his temper with Snow, definitely resonated with me. Contrarily to your viewpoint I thought that Serah was the bland one, with an agreeable personality but not a particularly strong one, and that Mog was a pretty throwaway character.

I do agree that Serah and Noel had a nice dynamic. Interesting, though, how polar our reactions were on the individual characters.

KUUPPPPOOOOOOO!

And Snow is a douche. Always hated him. All that "Heroes never die" crap annoyed me to no end, and his hair in XIII-2 was like the back end of a chocobo.

Noel and Caius were the best things about XIII-2. Serah was bearable but I don't think she works as a main character that well. Not sure what to think of Lightning being the only playable character in LR. I wanted them to go back to having a traditional party again but this generation seems to be about SE giving us the opposite of what we want so :/

I always saw Snow's recklessness and his shonen-esque personality an endearing trait and I respect his drive to protect his girl. As cliched and overused as it is, a man trying to protect his loved one never gets old. I could see how one could find his occasional stupidity annoying though. He reminds me so much of Naruto Uzumaki and to a lesser extent, Ryo Saeba, two characters I'm really fond of. That scene with Noel and Snow bugs me because it seem like his was trying to break his drive and spirit and you just don't do that imo.

What I liked most about Serah and Noel is how platonic their relationship is. Rarely do you find a pairing of a male and female character not ending up in some sort of romantic situation halfway through or by the end of the game. They felt like just two buddies on an adventure and I appreciated that.

Yeah, I definitely appreciated this. It happens all too often in otherwise compelling character relationships.

If it wasn't ready to be shown then they shouldn't have shown it.

True, but overreact now and what then?

The message you are sending is spend the maximum effort on the trailer because your audience can't tell the difference between pre-release and final-release materials.

Not really productive is it?

I wonder if the trailer is different enough to change opinions from this thread.

I wouldn't count on gamers being rational or using logic if I were them.
