Not sure if posted here, but saw this on 4chan:

This is a wyvern (Y-vern):
Wikipedia said:
The wyvern (and its 'cousin' the four-legged dragon) is a frequent heraldic device on British coats of arms and flags, and a fairly popular commercial logo or mascot as well, especially in Wales and what was once the West Country Kingdom of Wessex, but also farther afield in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, as the rivers Wye and Severn run through Hereford and Worcester respectively.

European region confirmed?

This is a chital:
Wikipedia said:
The chital or cheetal (Axis axis),[2] also known as chital deer, spotted deer or axis deer is a deer which commonly inhabits wooded regions of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and in small numbers in Pakistan.

Binomial name "Axis axis". Perhaps a reference to an X-Y axis?

EDIT:
Also, the [Greek] letter "chi" looks like this - X
Also, the name for Y in many European languages literally translates into "Greek I"

Perhaps it will be Paris + Mediterranean coast?

I'm thinking it's gonna be Grass/Fighting and Water/Dark.

EDIT: See below.

I like the Grass/Dark idea, though, because I could totally see the final evolution as a hedgehog ninja that uses its quills as throwing stars/ninja darts.

But ninjas in the Pokemon series have been associated with the Poison type.

Type changes in starters are nothing new.

Edit - starts as a grass/dark type as a thief (seriously, Chespin looks more like a thief than Froakie does; also, Chespin/Lupin?), then changes to grass/poison in its later evolutions when it becomes a ninja

If it's Europe and not only France... Oh god awesomeness! An island like Engalnd, a huge city like Paris, a Parthenon for Pokemon, a Coliseum for Battle frontier and a north winterland like the Scandinavian countries!

I like your thinking. Opens up tons of possibilities for variety based in real life.

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Holy low res jaggies!

This the best looking Pokemon a 3DS can do? Did I miss something, will this be backward compatible with the old DS ?

The graphics look almost exactly like Dragon Quest IX for the DS.

Hopefully they'll improve before release.
How would any game increase the 3DS screen resolution?

at last, for christ's sake

they going to save something for the next games

Chespin > Snivy > Bulbasaur > Turtwig > Treecko > Chikorita
Fennekin > Torchic > Cyndaquil > Charmander > Tepig > Chimchar
Oshawott > Mudkip > Piplup > Squirtle > Froakie > Totodile

New gens = best gens
I didn't look at yours when posting mine but ours is pretty similar.
Picking Y because he's a fucking wyvern. My fiance will probably want X because that legendary looks like an Irish elk.

I really like the stag because it reminds me of Princess Mononoke.

They used 3(4?) games to represent the whole of Japan. I find it hard to believe they'll represent all of Europe in one game.

They would probably just do the coast. Probably like England and France, then maybe another game for Spain and Italy. That would be about it.

Why? People have a tendency to see their local distinctions in much sharper resolution than those abroad.

They used gen 5 strictly for NYC and I think part of NJ. They aren't going to do all of europe in one game when they split japan into 4 parts and only used NYC for gen 5.

Well, Europe is quite big and had many different civilisations. Greeks, Romans, Celts, Vikings. And even now there's a ton of different people. Spain, Italy, France and Greece are all mediterrenean countries but still they differ a lot.

They did only New York for Gen 5. So yeah, they might do other USA cities or what ever. They will probably stay in one area.

Well, water/poison would still work as a reverse type triangle since poison would give Froakie a STAB attack against dark/grass Chespin, and fire/psychic Fennekin would still have STAB against Froakie. But Froakie looks more like a fighting type.

EvilMario

Will QA for food.
Next generation for Pokemon in Canada. It will be the generation where Ice receives all the buffs it has been dying for. Poutine-mon and Milkbag-mon. Mounties everywhere.

Froakie looks like a gentlemen frog to me. Growing out a beard, has glasses, and fancy gloves. I'm going to be disappointed if he doesn't end up with a monocle and a full on beard.

True, but then again, I'm not experienced enough with the Japanese perspective of the rest of the world to make any qualified judgments of these sorts of perceptions. My gut tells me that while they might see the US as NYC + Cali + Hawaii, they're inclined to see Europe as essentially one place (thus, why you see so many European establishing shots with the Eiffel Tower on Japanese TV, along with the parallel with the Tokyo Tower/Sky Tree). I could be completely wrong, however.

We're inclined to see Western civilization as particularly varied and distinct, since we're part of it. Would someone in Japan see the distinction between the South of France and Greece as distinctly as, say, North and South China? I'm not sure.

Yeah, but see, there's a huge difference between "the average person's perspective" and lead designers who study this kind of thing. It's not some random un-educated goon designing the maps.

Furthermore, your perspective of perspectives is entirely American.

Okay, if the first gives 6 points, the second 5 points etc. then:

Gen I: 9 points
Gen II: 9 points
Gen III: 15 point's
Gen IV: 5 points
Gen V: 11 points (thanks to Snivy)
Gen VI: 14 points

So it's really good. III>VI>V>I=II>>IV

Grass:
Chespin> snivy> bulbasaur> turtwig> treeko> chikorita

Water:
Oshawot> mudkip> squirtle=piplup> totodile> froakie

Fire:
Torchic> charmander> fennekin> cyndaquil> tepig> chimchar

Only designs I really dislike are chimchar, tepig and chikorita.
Using this method my rating for each gen would be:
Gen 1: 13
Gen 2: 6
Gen 3: 13
Gen 4: 8
Gen 5: 13
Gen 6: 11
So apparently gen 1=3=5> 6> 4> 2

I didn't expect that personally I'd put gen 4 behind 2 and 5 behind 6 in terms of starters.

I'm thoroughly interested.
This might also be the first pokemon I get where I probably won't know all the pokemon in it since it has a world wide release. Should be a interesting run.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Pokemon have looked goofy as hell since the first generation!

Yup, it's easier to stay in the dark when the Japanese version isn't there spoiling everything!

I'm going to feel like a child when I see a brand new pokemon in the wild!!!

I'll rank as well.

Grass:
Chespin > Bulbasaur > Turtwig > Snivy > Treecko > Bayleef

Fire:
Charmander > Cyndaquil > Tepig > Torchic > Fennekin > Chimchar

Water:
Totodile > Froakie > Squirtle > Oshawatt > Mudkip > Piplup

Gen 1: 15
Gen 2: 12
Gen 3: 7
Gen 4: 6
Gen 5: 10
Gen 6: 13

Team chespin represent yo!

yezzir

I'm satisfied both legendaries aren't just dragons

Actual dragons would be cool.

Well, yeah.

Still, though, this isn't Assassin's Creed here, where one of the stated purposes of the designers is to explore the details of a time and place that are often glossed over by the average person's perspective. The cultural aspects are more inspirational than central to the game's purpose, and the primary audience in Japan isn't going to notice distinctions in the same way that they would in the Japanese regions.

However, the announcement video did emphasize the global nature of this game, so it could be different.

Might as well rate.

Water:
Totodile > Squirtle > Mudkip > Piplup >>>>>> Oshawott = Froakie

Fire:
Cyndaquil > Fennekin > Charmander > Tepig > Torchic >>>>>>>>> Chimchar

Oooo, let me try.
Gen I: 11
Gen II: 13
Gen III: 9
Gen IV: 9
Gen V: 9
Gen VI: 12

I've been thinking, and maybe it's been said before: I wonder if the reason we're seeing such great delays to bringing Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing over West is because the majority of Nintendo's localization teams are putting most of their work towards translating X and Y to achieve a worldwide release. Just a thought...

Shiiiiit yessssss. Cannot fucking wait. I am now starting my campaign to purchase a 3DS. Just needed the push Nintendo!

The starters look awesome! A fennec fox?! Fucking hell yes! A grass chipmunk? Gimme that shit! A water frog? Don't we have 3? Oh well, it has a fucking mustache!

The Y-vern thing looks dope too. Can't fucking wait.

While it being true,, Europe is just too massive a region to do effectively in one game. North America i can understand (or even alone), since their most iconic regions aren't that many.

And the global nature has more to do with the worldwide release, and how you'll be able to connect with anybody in the world be it for trading or battling. And maybe Co-op if that is confirmed?

B/W's was amazing, but what if this OST was fully orchestrated?

They should at least try to match the quality of Kid Icarus Uprisings soundtrack.
The sound team will do what fits the scenario best. Some music definitely deserves full orchestral arrangement, but not every track would work with the usual stuff. I don't get why everyone's so big on this idea that all the music should sound like traditional concert music—they're trying to evoke the world of Pokémon, not something much more formal. Of course, I could be wrong. Shota Kageyama loves his orchestral stuff way too much.
