Is that the big boss of Nintendo? And he spoke the entire time in English, despite the fact that he's not very fluent -- I wonder how many presidents of multi-billion dollar companies would do that for a project like this.

He also seemed very humble and gracious/down to earth, which seems to typically be the opposite of people in such a position (In western countries atleast.)

Hi Iwata.

My shiny Scrafty is my pride and joy. He carried me through most of the PWT by himself :)

I wish you the best of luck in catching your query. Trust me; it'll be worth it in the end.

You have excellent taste.

What are you talking about here? A console/PC/Portable game, or a card game?

Anyways, I wonder how many Pokemons there'll be in this game. How many Pokemons are there in total? Somewhere around 700, or is that number outdated? Modelling them all in 3D, along with adapting them all for all the gameplay systems/their own unique systems makes me think that there will certainly be far, far fewer than 700. Or?

I read somewhere that you had to capture like 500-900+ Pokemons in Pokepark to get a unique Pokemon or something -- is that totally wrong, or does that include several models with 50-100 different color variations each or something?
Well, there are 649 Pokemon as of Black 2/White 2, not counting variations/fusions. This game will add... I'm guessing at least 100 new species. I'm not sure about PokePark, but in the main games, there are only a few categories of variations/'formes' for a single Pokemon:

1. Gender variations
(male)
T3y2x.gif
(female)
JLadh.gif

2. Location variations
(east)
ggpjL.gif
(west)

3. Seasonal variations
(spring)
RPCOQ.gif
(summer)
IXvs1.gif
(fall)
YM17j.gif
(winter)
5SycW.gif

4. Formes
(Rotom)
opbJZ.gif
(Wash Rotom)
3xrGe.gif
(Frost Rotom)
v8vRr.gif

5. Other variations
(Red-striped Basculin)
cVc5g.gif
(Blue-striped Basculin)
JoxPr.gif

(Wormadam, Sandy Cloak)
3iFNQ.gif
(Wormadam, Trash Cloak)
ehRQw.gif

(Castform, Normal)
3Njz3.gif
(Castform during sun)
ei1sQ.gif

6. Shiny
(Charizard)

(Shiny Charizard)

And there are other variations - shiny Pokemon are really the only category where you'll have to rely on luck (or special tricks depending on the game...)

Iwata said "some" of the old Pokemon will return, so it's definitely not going to be the entire library.

at last, for christ's sake
sorry to interrupt this awesome stream of fanart and gifs, I just wanted to say that the music in the trailer is fucking epic. Is that a new arrangement for the Theme?

That ouverture...

Has there been a Pokémon game yet where you couldn't bring over your old Pokémon at some point in the game?

Hm... give Water and Fighting weaknesses to Poison. Grass is done though, that's a lost cause .

Now that you mention it, now is a good time to balance the types, and giving water a weakness to poison sounds logical, actually i always try to have a poison type in my team, until i realize that poison sucks...

Game Freak already re-did every Pokemon in 3D with the 3D Pokedex, of course they will all be present this time around.

This is the same guy who WILLINGLY cut his salary in half because he felt that the 3DS' initial failure was his fault.

I'm not surprised at all.

Wow, he did sudoku right there. Respect for that man.

Water should be weak to poison, yeah.

Not sure about fighters though. Fighting itself isn't supereffective to poison. IMO bug should resist poison.

This is my first post and it gets to be in the Pokemon Gen VI announcement thread, awesome! I`m so hyped for this game, need to get 3DS XL soon.

So I'm pretty much done with BW2 now. I haven't played HG/SS or Platinum yet. Which is better?
I liked SS better due to nostalgia and it having lots of content. Though both may feel a bit dated due to BW2 so good.

Yeah, that's true. I'm really not up to scratch with how the Pokemon series has evolved, and wasn't sure if you could have literally every single Pokemon in the latest games some how. But there you go.

There's already 649 Pokemon. Assuming X and Y at least bring the total count to 700, that's an insane amount of animated 3D assets. Maybe they'll DLC some assets to the SD card.

They are both amazing. Platinum fixed pretty mich everything that was wrong with Diamond/Pearl, and its probably the best 'directors cut' version ever.

HG/SS has 16 gyms though...and I love those two regions, so I'd rank it a bit higher.

I expect all event Pokemon to be DLC'd. No more hacking for them 2+ years in advance.

Well, they pretty much redid 'em all (in Pokedex 3D), so it's real unlikely they'll leave the data out for DLC - would make it hard for two games, one lacking model data vs. another, to battle each other.

Well, simulators like Pokémon Showdown will need sprites done, so there's that already.
Mm, I think with the rate of people that made sprites within an hour of the announcement, they'll be lacking in people willing to make sprites.

The bigger problem for sims will be move data, base stats, and other mechanics changes - if there isn't any progress made on "that" front, there'll be tons of manual work ahead.

They should make the Toxic poison status exclusive to Poison-type Pokemon.

I think they're scaling back some of the animations. The battle anims for most of the Pokemon models themselves seem much more simplified, with the flashy special effects compensating for it. They'll probably save room cutting all that data out of it.

I'm talking about the Pokémon World Tournament (PWT) in Black and White 2. It's a bonus attraction that lets you fight souped-up, harder versions of every Gym Leader and Champion in the series.
I have still yet to beat the champion tournaments. Cynthia with her focus sash garchomp makes me die on the inside.
