IGN is horribly horribly wrong, about everything.
I am honestly surprised they know what day they will post their own reviews sometimes.

The New iPad and The New Xbox aren't similar in concept. If you don't buy the right "new" iPad, you still have access to all the apps that Apple is making money off of. Microsoft needs people to buy the right Xbox. As Nintendo has now proven twice, naming matters.
That been said, i thank the few GAF users who are giving us some bits, but the majority of "insiders" in the internet are just full of shit.
All this PM here, PM there, i will post something, i will leak something, i have the specs but i can't share, i have some NDA to follow, most of this is bullshit.
I would bet that most of those people are working for Microsoft and just gauging the general interest in knowing the system specs. He have tidbits of what we believe to be info, and then it's a good round of BS.
People like SuperDAE, he's either doing this for MS or he is just a dumb ass playing with people on the internet. You don't threaten to release info you have, either you have it and post it, or you just don't know anything. Looks to me like he is doing this for MS, to see what the hardcore gamers say about the prospect of knowing more about the next gen system.
Journalists will not share any info because of two things: a) they already know; and b) they don't to risk losing any sources.
So in the end some people say they know stuff but the posts are vague and obtuse sometimes.

Still very confused on these "custom blocks" that can help the GPU. I definitely understand about sound processing and video acceleration/resizing etc. But AFAIK, GPU's already have the stuff that's really important to do fast like ROPS as fixed function and shaders as more GP. What else is involved in rendering that can be made fixed function and help out greatly for the GPU? I feel like more optimized GPU code would win at the end...
Isn't it still called ipad 3,etc?
No. IPad 3 and 4 are both just called iPad.
Microsoft have been emulating Apple a fair bit lately.
The brand is more than strong enough, especially in the US, to go with just Xbox. I think they'll name the dash revisions.
I'm watching you guys talk about microsoft naming conventions while ignoring what they're doing with surface, which comes in the officially named Surface RT and Surface Pro varieties.

No, but other ways are more expensive (SSAA) or worse (image space methods).Surely that's not the only way to handle antialiasing though?
That's not even remotely true. MSAA is remarkably efficient in terms of quality/speed tradeoff in forward renderers, and still far from "most brute force" in deferred renderers. A brute-force method would be SSAA -- which still has its advantages.Ditto. Some of you people are hilarious. 4X MSAA @ 1080p? MSAA is the most brute force, expensive feature available today.
They're going to tell you how many floating point operations the hardware can perform, at peak. If you know what that means you know what that means, if you don't you don't. But it's still one of the more useful numbers that gets thrown around when comparing performance. The raw teraflop numbers for either console aren't going to tell you much about what they're actually capable of.
I thought it was a nice name when it was naming a table. That just reminded me that XBox Surface freaking sucks as a name.
I guess Xbox RT and Xbox Pro....is possible or along those lines?

wow, very good point. you just blew my mind. very much excited for surface pro. i hope microsoft keeps with the surface design aesthetic for the next xbox.I'm watching you guys talk about microsoft naming conventions while ignoring what they're doing with surface, which comes in the officially named Surface RT and Surface Pro varieties.
Aaaaaah, you're making my brain hurt! How would it gimp the graphics design if it was designed for 4k from the start?
I'm talking with the power to run it at 4k while looking as it does in terms of IQ at 720 or 1080.
Hmmm.Hmmm.
Without getting in trouble. We do know that USB held back the actual throughput of the original Kinect in a big way....ya that's about all I am going to write about that.
"The New Xbox" could work. The terminology is simple but effective imo
I don't see how anybody could get it wrong. If somebody is clueless and goes into a store and says "I'd like an Xbox" and they say "Which one, the Xbox 360 or the new Xbox" they're going to instantly know which is which. In what way does "Xbox 360" and, say, "Xbox Infinite" stop people buying the wrong console and clear up which is the newer model?
xbox rt (6670 base /ign rumor)/ xbox pro (8880 based) goes with the rumor of two versions of 720. some developers are making games for the lite version(where IGN comes from) other are making for the hardcore crowd(8880).
yea.

The hell. Dude. First bad idea you have ever had
What if you get 2. The newer new?
Come on. We need something awesome for both of these systems.
The Refurbished Xbox?
Nah.
I wouldn't put it past them to totally fuck it up though.
Bad idea.
So it's either of these?
THE NEW XBOX
A STEERING WHEEL AND A CONSOLE......ALL...IN.....ONE.
It's perfect.
It probably won't be my last bad idea :/ lol
Infinity could work tho, I know for awhile that Loop was the name everyone was calling it. So it could be something like that.
I still like Infinite. I don't think infinity is likely given stuff like the disney project.
Xbox Infinite.
"Infinite Possibilities. Jump In."
Like who? I need names! Tell me their names! Please.
It probably won't be. The X1950 is considered by some to be rather similar to the 360 GPU and it's perfectly capable of powering modern titles like Crysis 2.

What are they going to Xbox 5 in the event of its existence? Xbox-Chuck-Norris-Counts-to-Infinity-Again?

It would play into some kind of idea of a platform that is open-ended. I don't know. There are lots of ways to market it as a name, and it segues nicely from Windows 8, the kernel of which is most assuredly powering Durango.
How did you feel when the rumored specs for the Wii U turned out to be true? Specifically the 2GB of RAM.
He said majority is bullshit, not all.

The ram amount was called bullshit. People expected more.

Wait what? If I recall correctly, 2GB was considered the best-case scenario, with people leaning toward 1.5GB (since devkits had 3GB). And then there was that 768MB eDRAM bullshit, lol.
Who called it bullshit? Who expected more? People predicted a lot of different things. Which is his main point. Just because very few may have inside info, doesn't mean everyone who posts on gaf or b3d does.

Thuway, Proelite, Sweetvar26, Aegis... i guess they are the only ones knowing anything concrete.
There are some informed users following the scene, like Jeff Rigby, Karak, Gofreak and Onq123, some people doing PR for the companies and the rest is just speculation.
Speaking of which, did we ever get estimates on how much eDRAM was in the Wii U?
Thuway is a definite. He knows
Proelite knows something as well but someone called him out in the ps4 roadmap thread for spotty info or something random? Don't know what that was about.
Aegis knows enough on MS.
Sweetvar26 busted this piñata open from the start, like a month ago in the ps4 thread tho it might be outdated now. I still think he knows something but doesn't want to mess up his connection which is understandable.
