so this is the reason the game is delayed? well, then I´ll not buy it then

but srsly, if you need more revenue, release the game already!

So I read some opinions on GAF that some Nintendo games were delayed to fill the gap.
With Rayman gone is there any chance that any of the games will be released earlier? I don't think it will happen but it'd be nice to know.

Man first Community seadon 4 and now this.
Looks like "Last minute longass delay" is something i just need to anticipate for things im super hyped for.

Hopefully it comes to PC as well. Glad more people get a chance to play this game at the end of the day.
Wait, Community got delayed?
D:

Nintendo is seriously struggling here. A positive could be that Pikmin 3 gets released a little earlier than they planned (probably wishful thinking).

I think we're looking at N64 levels of support for Wii U and I don't think the system will sell much better.

The first party games really have to hit the mark now. 3D Mario, Zelda etc need to be of the highest quality. I loved my N64 due to the quality of those games alone. A StarFox and FZero wouldn't go a miss either.

*Something about no Rare*

If Legends was released around now, I think a lot of Wii U owners would have picked it up due to the relative game drought on the console as of now. Now though, more people will pick up Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart U, Wonderful 101 - leaving Rayman Legends on the Wii U platform with less than desirable sales.
I believe, that Ubisoft simply had delay for some reason. The only way to make any money in the fall with Rayman, would be to make it multi-platform. So properly Nintendo and Ubisoft made a deal, to make up for the release change, the marketing and the damage the change did to Nintendo. Otherwise the relationship between both companies would become horrible and it didn't look like this the last times.

Still, this is damaging the image of WiiU even more. The gaming press doesn't look like to stop beating the dead horse of the "big failing" of the WiiU. No matter if it is true or not. It gets them the clicks, they need.

Don't be thick.

I'm pretty certain Iwata and co. already had a talk about this one with Ubisoft higher-ups. Nintendo won't be happy though with the delay. Maybe Ubi will smooth it over with a Wii U version of Watch_Dogs, Splinter Cell Blacklist or the next Assassin's Creed.
Nintendo needs ubisoft, not the other way round. Ubisoft can do whatever the hell they like.

WiiU sales failed to make it a viable proposition to make it exclusive. End of story.

I'd feel worse about the situation if I had a Wii U.

As it stands, I'm justified in my desire to wait until the end of the year at the earliest. :/

I'm pretty sure the January Nintendo Direct was a preemptive strike Nintendo needed to make after they learned about Ubisoft's plans to delay the game and release it on other platforms at the same time. Their early SMT x FE announcement and expressed willingness to do more partnerships is also probably a reaction to that.

well here are some possibilities:

1) ubisoft actually has no idea how much their own game sold or what the platform make-up is. they are willing to pay cash for message board posters to give them this information.

2) ubisoft does know, and whatever private information they have contradicts the information you have.

3) ubisoft does know, and your information is entirely correct, but they have private projections that suggest something different about the economics of rayman legends to justify this decision, whether or not it ends up being correct in the end.

4) ubisoft is deliberately sabotaging their own company in an effort to take down nintendo on behalf of all the third parties of the world who hate nintendo for example nomura is a KNOWN sony fan boy and besides third parties said they wouldn't make games for gamecube because of the low install base but then the wii won and SURPRISE SURPRISE they changed their tune and by the way did you know that all those companies wouldn't have gone bankrupt if they made wii games i hate dudebro shooters for example but call of duty black ops 2 on wii u is a good game and

Great post man :D

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Thread is going to need a health warning soon. Bonus points to the people that won't be buying it out of spite now. Guess you didn't really want to play that game too much, huh?

Dear Ubisoft,

I was looking forward to Rayman Legends - a game which seemed to be a perfect fit to Nintendo's new console, the Wii U. I loved the demo and wanted to buy the game on its release day end of February. That situation changed today.

The game is no longer exclusive to Wii U? Not really surprising. A finished game is postponed by 7 months? Why? The business scenario is not compelling enough? The Wii U sold in its first two months than PS360 did back then. How about postponing all your PS720 games until the fan base is 10M+?

Guess what people will do in September! They will play GTA V and other AAA titles and / or they will save their money for upcoming games and systems. Rayman Legends will bomb and from today onwards I'm looking forward to it. Rayman is a great game and I will buy it - but not on day 1 anymore. I will buy it one month later for half the price and 2nd hand.

Ubisoft, go and fuck yourself.

Yours sincerely,
a Wii U owner

LOL settle down cowboy U. It's just a delay, no reason to get THAT pissy. Grow up.

Well I did forget they were publishing the game in Japan, but I honestly don't see why people would care. As much as people on this board care about Rayman, the game is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things at all. I never saw the game selling more than 300-400k at most. Also Ubisoft doesn't owe Nintendo anthing so I don't see why they would make up for something.

Edit: It's somewhat disappointing that Ubisoft is delaying the game, but peopel not buying out of spite should be blaming Nintendo for creating a platform in this situation. 3rd party games are selling miserably and the platform is on a horrendous sales track. It sucks for the delay, but Ubisoft probably wanted to do a big marketing camapaign 2x

Dear Wii-U owner,

Thanks to the petty gestures of you and your ilk, the Wii-U version underperformed and we do not see the platform as commercially viable for future projects.

Yours sincerely,
Ubisoft.

As a Wii U owner, I don't really give a shit if it is exclusive or not. I do care about a game that I have been looking forward to getting delayed for 7 months 3 weeks before it is supposed to hit retail.

Fuck you Ubisoft, there is not a single good reason (for us) to delay the Wii U version that has been ready since last year. You're only doing that so that the 360 and PS3 versions can sell a little better. But in the process, you're losing Wii U sales. GG.

Why do people think this?! They were still playtesting the game with family of employees at Christmas

We don't know much about the funding of any games. It's totally possible MS paid for Ninja Gaiden 2, they clearly did something to get the publishing rights for a year.

Ninja Gaiden 2 was paid for by Microsoft and was exclusive. To get Sigma on PS3, Hayashi had to change enough of the game for it to be considered a different game. Weird shit there.

But yes, we do know the sometimes crazy stories behind these things.

Yup, it all makes sense now.

Maybe we'll get more collaboration news sooner than we expected.

Great decision, Ubi! Who the fuck is going to buy your game amidst the AAA games' season? I was pretty pumped for the game after the demo. Now I won't be buying the game, since by September I will have many varied options on Wii U, and who exactly is going to buy the game on 360 and PS3?

Well if it was going to sell well eventually, means that delaying the Wiiu version doesn't really help any.

Putting all versions on an equal playing field in regard to price is most likely the better decision. Rayman is a legit brand now(given the success of Origins and Rayman Run). Might as well treat it as such.

Dear Wii-U owner,

Thanks to the petty gestures of you and your ilk, the Wii-U version underperformed and we do not see the platform as commercially viable for future projects.

And they say the Brits are nice people.

This is great news.

Origins was one of my favorite games of 2011 and now I'll be able to play the sequel.

What a fantastic way to start the second half of the week!

I feel for Wii U owners, but this is fucking hilarious. Please actually send that to Ubisoft.

Wow. That must be the best gaming related news in ages (at least the part where it is released for PS3 in my case). Didn't see this coming. I loved Origins and this could be GOTY 2013. With this and puppeteer, 2013 will be platform game heaven.

I feel sorry for the Wii U owners though. I would be dissapointed too.

I can't remember ever hearing about a console exclusive losing it's exclusivity before it even launched. Final Fantasy XIII was different in that nobody at Square ever said it was going to be PS3 exclusive, I don't think?

Are there any other notable examples of this happening?

RE4 instantly sprang to mind, that was an infinitely bigger disaster for the Gamecube though. Not sure if the other "Capcom 5" games were announced for the PS2 before or after their GC launches.

hahaha we still havent got scribblenaughts over here yet, ninty really doesnt want to sell this system do they. I will wait for a price drop before getting rayman now, it was a big reason i got wii u day one instead of waiting the fucking thing was suppose to be launch title, then a launch window title then a delay all the way to september the fuck. Good luck nintendo.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I think this is more Nintendo than Ubisoft. They never really liked Rayman. They don't heavily support games that compete with their first party offerings.

Yeah, since it's somehow impossible to buy multiple games in the same month.

Right, because that's a reasonable expectation to go up against the biggest software title of the year when your last going out had the same strategy and bombed horrifically.

#Really?

I never believed that story, that it's 'on a different engine'.

You always have to add content when you port something later, both first parties require new exclusive content.

Funnily, Sony's exclusive content for BioShock 1 just went multiplatform this week after all those years.
