Aliens: Colonial Marines |OT| Game Over Man, GAME OVER!

Was thinking I'd bite at $35-40, but I assumed horde mode was part of the game. Considering that its DLC, and a whopping $15 pack at that, I dunno what my new jump-in price is. Maybe $15? Higher if it gets a few positive reviews.

I really thought the horde mode would be a selling point of the game - splitting it off into DLC comes off as so obnoxious.

So its a semi remake of that DS game Alien Infestation

same objective and same setting for first level

I let off the xenomorphs not being that aggressive you clearly see it put on easy

I remember a long gameplay trailer (8+ minutes long) that came out months ago. The game looked epic as shit. what happened?

You mean THIS?

Had some great animation, character models, lighting. The real game looks like what this demo should have looked like, unfinished/unpolished animation and models.

In fairness the one xeno when they demo 'ultimate badass' at the end of the 2hr ign video doesn't look all that 'killer' either in close proximity ... i suspect things will be different when facing larger groups though.

Like other's have said just make an open world survival game like Killing Floor set in the Alien's universe and we'd be golden, but no.

So apparently this mod has been a thing for a while now, and it just wen't pretty public, it's exactly what I mentioned, a semi-total conversion mod for Killing floor and it's pretty neat..

Something to play instead of hold you over for this game :p.

It's beginning to sound like this was just some contracted game with a small scope (budget) that Gearbox worked on while they did their own stuff. I do know that some of the aspects of the game were outsourced to smaller, cheaper developers.

I want it to be good though.

I've only played multi-player, but none of that really got me interested.

I'd love to hear some stories from around when the direction of this game changed. It seems so dumbed down compared to the original reveals and concept.

Almost none of that is in the final game.

How sure are you? Thats basically one of the early levels in the game to my understanding, right after the Sephora
crashes into LV426
. Do you have insight to specific changes or just guessing?

edit. I sat in that exact demo during E3 2011 as well. I watched the entire presentation almost exactly like on that video. It was 10 minutes long and seemed like an integral part of the story.

The space is in the game. The lighting is different, and that scripted sequence isn't there. It's pulled from various parts of the game. I know this because I've played through it.

This scenario isn't unusual. It was an E3 demo almost two years before the game shipped. I'm just saying that that stuff is borderline unrecognizable in the final game.

Interesting, thank you. So question, when I saw that E3 demo the game looked decent, true to the universe but the gameplay seemed heavily scripted with those kinds of scenarios.. like a CoD game.

Has that changed overall? Whats the gameplay flow like now?

As it he's somehow being disingenuous about not fully divulging his opinions before the embargo date.

He thinks the game sucks, what else is there to say before the review?

embargoes are stupid. if studios will release movies for review early, game studios should do it too.

to continue with that comparison, studios that don't release movies for review before release generally know the movie is shit. wonder what that says about this game.

You are aware that there are embargoes for movie reviews too, right? It's a pretty common practice.

Other than the sound effect of the rifle, there is absolutely nothing about this game that seems "good".

The graphics look embarrassing even being compared to Prey, which came out in 200-fucking-6.

The Aliens fan in me is clouding how I look at the game. This and the second video aren't anything special, but I'm still drawn to it.
I'm the same. It looks sorta dull but those locations and weapons and sounds are sucking me in. Shows how good they were to begin with, I guess.

The Aliens mythos is so strong that I think fans (like me) will overlook some of the issues with this game. I'll at least wait for the game to be, you know, actually released, before writing it off...

I'd be lying if the Alien fan in myself (and all of us, really, who doesn't love this shit?) didn't have me mildly interested. I mean, I'm in the OT, after all.

But the warnings signs are just too bright and too loud for this one. I can't bare to drop another $60 on a shit game, again.

Is it $60 on consoles? It costs barely £25 on amazon which is really cheap :)

Its because it looks & sounds very Aliens
I just want a scary aliens shooter

Well I have to say that the gameplay vid (Part 1) looks good to me. Animations are bad...yeah...but the atmosphere is great. Hmm....I don't know...

I've already paid for mine, £30. I'm expecting it to ship tomorow so I might get it Saturday, if it arrives I'll post some impressions.

Watch Part 2! Looks like COD in Space.
I thought that, too - but on the other hand a
nice build up to the actual planet/hive could be alright. I wouldn't expect them to just dump you in a room and you're swarmed by aliens.
the fact that it's 4 player co-op is still enticing me so badddddddddd.
I still really want some clarification on what 2/4-player modes are in the game and which ones will require a DLC pass.
