Bungie officially confirms Destiny. Reveal on Feb 17th

Do we know for a fact that Microsoft didn't require that Bungie give them timed exclusivity on their first release or two? Remember, Microsoft literally owned Bungie and didn't have to sell them so they could go private, they chose to do so. Were the terms of the sale ever made public?

Activision becoming Bungie's publisher does not release them from legal contracts that they already entered into.

I'll buy for 360 regardless because that's the platform Bungie knows best.

Seems Microsoft is making the first move!

Isn't Bungie published by Activision?

Let me rephrase that:

Isn't Activision a multiplatform publisher?

Let me rephrase that:

Didn't Bungie say they are making multiplatform games after Halo?

Let me rephraise that:

Did Microsoft really make the first move?

I wonder if we'll get another taste of next-gen graphics on the 17th. Current gen games are hurting my eyes.

They probably decided to reveal it before the Sony event to get the most out of it without showing anything next-gen.
I would agree that, for the most part, current gen really shows its age, but then games like Halo 4 and God of War 3,5 manage to shame nigh everyone else (on consoles).

Edit: Also, about the exclusivity. If EA managed to get Microsoft-published Mass Effect 1 on the PS3 then I really wonder whether Activision couldn't put their own game on the PS4.

I'm disappointed it's actually being called Destiny. It was a cool codename for a game but it's a super cliche actual name for a game.

Still pumped for this though, I can't wait.

I really doubt that's still in place now considering how far back it was.

Means it is the current contract Bungie is making Destiny under and it showed the last two games and expansions as multiplatform I don't have a reason to doubt it. It seems likely that a condition of M$ for letting Bungie become independent was the first game had to remain a Microsoft exclusive.

Correction: http://www.polygon.com/gaming/2012/5/21/3035138/bungies-next-game-destiny-xbox-360-in-2013

The fist game is a timed exclusive for a year on the 720 according to the documents.

Bungie doesn't go like that. When they announce something they do it straight up. In game or nothing at all.

Really?
Halo 3, ODST and Reach announcements. All had no gameplay.
Halo 3: What is essentially a cutscene. EDIT in-game rendering
ODST: CGI intro, sort of.
Reach: A version of the game's intro (the VGA trailer that is, teaser was purely CGI showingh the planet Reach) EDIT in-game rendering.

Don't remember about earlier things but those reveals didn't have gameplay.

That said, their reveals are better than just largely unrelated CGI, concept art or a couple of screenshots.
But i won't be holding my breath, i doubt we'll get anything truly interesting (that is, actual gameplay).

I really can't imagine MS announcing 720/Durango along the reveal of a third-party cross gen title... People seems mad these days. MS doesn't need any help, it's safe to bet that 720 will be a great console like 360 is/
was
.
So, calm down people! Everyone will be alright! Just prepare more money!

But like I said if the game is amazing fun you would kind of be voting against fun wouldn't you be? Also its not like all that money goes to Activision, Bungie gets some of that too.

Bungie is sleeping in the devils bed. I won't pay him rent regardless of how comfy the pillows are. I DO NOT support Activision. They are anti gamer and anti game industry. Their only goal is to run franchises into the ground and to mess over developers as they have proven time and time again in the past.

So what are we looking at here, is it just going to be another shooter? Or is it going to be another one of those MMO shooters that are everywhere now?

Three days before the PS4 reveal? It would be interesting if they revealed the names of the new platforms in the announcement.

SO HYPED.
PS3, 720, Pc, and "Next gen PlayStation and Microsoft consoles" is about as close as we'll get.

I think it's timed exclusive with the 360 and/or Durango this year IIRC.

Well, it got there eventually, didn't it? :p
And it was, at first, published by Microsoft, not some other 3rd party.

It was published by Microsoft but always owned by Bioware. Game publishing agreements are not in perpetuity. The Oddworld games on PSN were originally published by Microsoft.

Exactly, they are just a formality.

Contracts are legally binding. If timed exclusivity was a term of Microsoft allowing Bungie to go private, Microsoft can, will, and should sue the crap out of them if they break that agreement.

I really hope it's not an MMO FPS. Really not feeling that genre at all. Hoping for space exploration(fps/3rd person) with rich story line.

I think it speaks to the confidence they have in this project. If you have the audacity to release the video game titled Destiny, you need to deliver.

Their contract (which is from 2010, so it could have changed) lists platforms as follows:

Destiny 1 (Fall 2013): 360, 720
Destiny 1 (Fall 2014): PS3 (only if Bungie decides it's technically feasible)
Coment 1 (Fall 2014): 360, 720
Destiny 2 (Fall 2015): 360, 720, PS4, PC

Ugh, so even if it's current gen it'll be a one year timed-exclusive on 360?

Bungie have been hiring staff with PS3 experience for years now and the leaked artwork IGN published last year had the PS3 logo on it. Signs are pointing toward this being on PlayStation as well as Xbox.

Lol this isn't just a coincidence.

Either MS is using this to disrupt the PS4 reveal or Sony is using this to tie into the PS4 reveal.

If I had to put money on it, I would say it was more MS pulling the strings on this one.
