RUMOR: PS4 CPU to run at 2GHz

I don't think so, seriously I'm for all for developpers to make the most of the hardware and that applies to consoles too. That would be very petty for third parties not to make the PS4 versions prettier considering that the PS4 is quite easy to developp for unlike the PS3.

Would MS be butthurt over that ? Well, that's their problem.

I hope you're right. Unlike previous generations, there doesn't appear to be a complexity gap between the two consoles anymore. It does appear to be a matter of adjusting the "performance level" of a game between the two.

It's reductive but I hope it's really just a matter of "turn this game up to level 9 for Durango and 10 for PS4".

I've one or two friends working in the Sony family, one of whom suggested specs have not changed in the past 3 month or so. What Sony announced is what peeps have had for at least 3 months.

Lot of JR insiders around here.

Yeah, also thuway is banned. Wonder what's the reason now?

edit: Looks like he was upto his usual tactics, smh.

Thuways ban wasn't because he was a false insider it was because he teased info and then wasn't given the time to leak it or not. I can tell you his "info" was similar to the PS daily article but seemed kind of pie in the sky hence why he didn't say it outright. If he had seen all the callouts in time I can guarantee he would have said it

Right, but there is no weakest link in the chain that applies to all programs. Some sections of the code are working on cached data, those get a linear speedup from clock rate. The better optimized a piece of code is, the more the clock rate matters.

Right. Whatever the current "weakest link" is depends on the instruction being executed.

I don't know if this will be done, sony adding extra heat and power consumption on new hardware might be a bit much unless there's decent safe/free overhead space for "error".

For saying that he would reveal something then not do it.

Bish specifically banned him.
Dat hunt for Thruway.
Oh God, someone gif bish's head on a this body please.

Is Thruway band permanent? If so too bad. Most of his inside info was legit, even if he teased too much.

Hopefully not. He had decent info.

Though he blatantly disregarded the well-known adage (which is especially applicable in case of leaks, insider goodies & stuff):

"Do, or do not. There is no 'try'."

If true, then while not a huge performance boost, in time, these upgrades (8GB and 2GHz) will add to what the machine would be finally be capable of achieving over the original rumoured specs.

PS4, it looks like, has come a long way since the original (and scathing) pastebin post.

Seriously. I was totally prepared to have to suffer through bad ports all gen again or just buy Durango for multiplats after some of the old rumors about the power of the two. The tables have really turned.

Lol! Deadmeat is around! It's like one of the post presidential debate spin rooms where you the crazy surrogates.

I don't believe this news.

LOL. Deadmeat showing up... Why am I not surprised?

Best Doombringer meltdowns ever were the KZ thread, and the thread where it was revealed that he lived with his sister and was forced to sleep out on the balcony.

Uh, no.

Here's a good example: http://www.techspot.com/review/458-battlefield-3-performance/page7.html

In most cases it's not going to make a big difference.

Playstation 4 is not a PC. If it has a faster CPU, developers will use it if they need it. With PC gaming, the CPU is mostly a bottleneck up to a certain point because there are so many variations of hardware. Also frame latency.

Basically, the guy is literally insane or some kind of method-troll playing the same part for over a decade:

I always love bringing this pic up (Thanks DarthWoo!)

Oops, for some reason I thought this was Deadman.

And jesus tittyfucking christ image compression was really bad. I completely forgot.

Better to have half the cores at double the speed.

True, because it makes it easier to achieve the same thing. Easier=less time= less money.

This is Carmack's philosophy. He hates to admit that Cell is a much more powerful processor vs Xenon, because it take so much work to achieve that greater power. Therefor he says 360 is the better gaming machine. That doesn't change the end result of what each system is capable of.

8 core is obviously better than 4 cores at twice the speed when it comes to cooling and TDP. This must of been the reason they went this route. But yes its going to take a lot more programming time and planning to get optimal performance of the same level. It is possible though.

Yeah, unlike last gen the architecture is near identical. The only difference is that the PS4 is just 1.5-2x more powerful across the board. It's not going to be a challenge to make use of that extra power.

I am not sure how APU's work but won't the GPU overclock with the CPU since they are on the same silicon? 800/1600 to 1000/2000?

Something I posted in the Durango cpu thread, about MS could try to mandate parity.

Surely if a game is to be released concurrently on both consoles they would have to go to cert at the same time to both.

How would MS know that the game sent to Sony for cert has better performance than the game sent to them.

Wouldn't it be logical that MS could moan all they like, but they wouldn't be able to do anything about it anyway.

Some of you are really smoking crack if you think MS can dictate parity. First it's an impossible task, second being in third place when this gen's done doesn't afford MS any idiotic mandates.
