No discount for PS+. It's $14.99 for everyone.

I have a question. I found the
floating island in the sky
and there is a house up there with a chest in it but, I can't open it. What do I need to open it?

either
gold or shadow key.
can't remember exactly. depends on the color of the chest.

Ah ok, I'll have to get the
shadow key
and try that. It looks like its a diamond chest? its sparkling. I can open gold chests.

Edit: It's nice to see Terraria #4 on the top 20 ps3 and psn games list.

You actually need a
gold key, which can be found in the dungeon. You'll notice on the chests on floating islands, that they have a lock and chains on them (you'll also find these in the dungeon).
I'm assuming they do this so your progression doesn't get out of wack since it is super easy to build a bridge there.

Thank you for the info.
I did notice the lock and chains
on the chest. I haven't spent much time in the dungeon yet because everytime I go down there I get killed instantly. lol

You need to go at night and talk to the old man. This will spawn Skeletron, kill that boss and you can enter the Dungeon.

Anyone feeling kind enough to get me a decent sword or a good piece of armor or something that regens health? I am having a hell of a time finding competent loot on PS3.

Would be willing to go in right now if you can spare something. Extra Muramasa's or a good pickaxe. I'm not asking for a lot :p

Anyway anyway, I was wondering about if anyone had ever successfully
100% Hallow and 0% Corruption
because that'd be a feat to see.
I'm not sure how the game counts it. Hell and various other types of terrain are immune to both hallow and corruption, so if the game counts immune areas as part of that percentage.. well.. have fun digging all the ash out of hell. Oh, and all the mud from the jungle. That's probably why my percentages are around 15% in a small world even after more than 100 hours of playtime.

Wish there was a creative mode or something. I'm getting sick of fighting endless waves of enemies while I attempt to build.

The more npcs you have, the fewer enemies spawn near your house. At 4 I think they stop completely outside the blood moon and goblin invasion.

That's when you know you're a little too high up there lol. What I did was dig out the bottom of my base completely off and raised my base a little bit further up. Then encased it with lava. :D

I'll take a pic in a bit.

Its not done but you get the idea. I feel that the lava trap system could had been better I just haven't figure out better ingenious ways yet. So far, my house keeps away everything except goblin casters.

OH and my tombstones are everywhere because I killed the Destroyer in my base. XD

I did that yesterday. Being able to go into the dungeon without getting insta-killed has opened up a whole new part of the world, it's awesome! Got some new weapons and armor now. Sooo good. :-D

Can't remember how strong I need to be to beat the dungeon boss but me and a friend were one hit the seconds we entered it the other night

Did you try to go into the dungeon before fighting Skeletron himself? 'Cause you'll automatically get one-hit killed if you try to go in before beating Skeletron. Remember you have to talk to the Old Man to summon Skeletron.

Nice base. I was contemplating using pumps to make an artificial lava waterfall around mine.

You buy wires from the Mechanic, an NPC you need to find and rescue after triggering hard mode.

They aren't really that useful, sadly, though people make some cool stuff with them. Really, you just want bridges/doors you can switch on during Bloodmoons to keep your town folk safe.

Thinking about picking this up blindly because it looks kinda fun, but I just don't know anything about it.

What is so fun about this game? What is it exactly?

I could youtube this but its just more fun chatting with you folks. :)

The game basically drops you in a huge, 2-D procedurally generated world with nothing but a pickaxe, sword and axe. A guide will give you advice and help you identify crafting materials, but that's about it.

To the left and right are different biomes (and structures) that may or may not be packed with things that want to kill you. Eventually you'll find environments like the Jungle, Corruption and the Dungeon entrance, before coming to the ocean at either end of the world. Exploring the surface is difficult but rewarding.

Below you, however, are seemingly infinite layers of dirt, stone, ore, gems and various other goodies to dig up; all you need to do is take that first swing downward. This is where the majority of the gameplay takes place, as the undeworld is enormous and covers multiple strata.

Within this world are enemies, bosses, plants, treasure, tons of crafted armor and weapons, accessories, furniture and building materials. As you advance, new NPCs arrive in your town, offering new goods and services. You can play with friends or alone.

Basically a 2-D Minecraft, or a Metroidvania with crafting, exploration and construction. Some people don't care for it, others get bitten by the Terraria bug hard and start losing sleep (seriously, not uncommon to look up from the game and find that it's dawn). For the price, it's usually worth it to find out; one way, you're out $15, the other you're looking at 100 hours of content easy.

For what it's worth, there's a PC version that's both cheaper and getting a big update in May/early june. The Console version has some exclusive content, but I've never heard 505games say what their plans are for future support.

dont quote me and im taking this with grain of salt, but on their official forums someone spotting off that the console and pc are not separate entities free to go in their own direction.

im wondering if they got the same deal minecraft did and are able to release as many updates as they like for free essentially. on the other, different than minecraft in that they released the full game and not rebuilding it from java or whatever they had to do with minecraft.

i would really like to see them continue creating tons of content to keep the game interesting.

Finally decided to go for a boss. And jesus.
Eye of Cthulu is ridiculous. After 5 minutes, I barely had his health down like 1/8th and I couldn't avoid his diving attacks half the time. How in the fuck are you supposed to beat him? Apparently this is what I'm supposed to be doing at this point in my game, but I dont think I have the patience to sit there for an hour fighting this guy and hoping I dont die.

What kind of weapons and armor are you using? What kind of accessories? I forget what's available exactly when, but certain ones can really help with mobility. Shurikens work pretty well against that particular boss.

Anyone else constantly craft things by mistake? I can't count how many times I've been crafting dozens of bars, then when I hit the last one the menu jumps to something else & I waste bars crafting a pickaxe or weapon by mistake. Really frustrating.

Don't button mash, just hold the button down and when its done, let go slowly. I learned that the hard way too. Same thing when scooping up lava/water, steady presses does the trick.

I also like how to get water in the bottle, you not only use the bottle but you have to go to the crafting menu to get the water while you're in a pool of water. Unlike a bucket. This is just silly to me.

When I beat him the first time I build a flat area on top of my houses that covered 3/4 of the screen that had about 10 to 15 high wood walls at either end, and a couple of wood platform levels in between.

When he cam I just threw ninja stars at him and when I missed they would bounce off the walls so I could collect them again.

When he charged, I just jumped up to the wood platforms or dropped down from them.

From a progression standpoint I had a silver helmet and pants, and a gold chest.

Cool, I'll give that a shot.

Yeah, that is especially goofy. I actually had to look it up because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.

Dumb question, about a hardmode weapon not showing up in the crafting recipe? I have all the available materials according to both wikis in my inventory. I have the particular anvil too. Standing in front of it and all.

Megashark

NVM got it, its in the SECRET available section.

I'm using Gold Broadsword, Silver Helmet/Greaves, Iron Chest Armor, 9 defense altogether.

I did look up a bunch of stuff on how to kill it and it seems its best to create a sort of battleground to fight it. I dont have many shurikens, but I think I can buy them, right? And I read there's TWO forms. Ugh. Its going to take so long. I could really use that Band of Regeneration of whatever, too, but I haven't found one yet.

I'm not going to shy away from using a guide/wiki now, though. The game doesn't really prepare you whatsoever for this.

Oh yea, and I only have 7 hearts. I only just today discovered those hearts underground and I found two of them. I should probably get a few more of those, too, I guess.

you will not kill him with a melee weapon. and yes you can buy the shurikens, I think from the merchant? don't worry it only takes like 10 minutes. summon him at the beginning of the night so you have as much time as you need.

I saw that if you go too high, you'll get harpies and dragons so I wisely decided to build my base just under the line where you can see islands from as you can see from my pics. The lava is really just for the wandering goblin army (and frost legion if I ever had to encounter those).

I think my save is broken. When I load up it just shows the screen overlay and background moon, and I have to hard reset the PS3, anyone else have this problem?

Yep. Create a new world, load it, then exit to the main menu and load your main world. It'll load up then.

I'm guessing you made a new spawn point with a bed? If so, get rid of it. That's what's causing the problem. It'll be patched eventually, but we don't know when.

Yep, so beds don't work at all on PS3 right now?

It can't take more than 10 minutes, he gets bored and flies away at dawn.

OTOH even 5 minutes is more than enough if you've got a ranged weapon. If you absolutely insist on melee, you're not doing him until you get a big and fast weapon--either
digging in the jungle for Blade of Grass or using bombs to destroy ebonstone, smash a shadow orb, and mining a meteor to make a lightsaber.
