So tonight was the first time in about a month that I've played Halo 4 matchmaking. I don't know whether it's the fact that every. single. game. except one that I joined tonight was against full parties (coupled with atrocious spawns on Forge CTF maps) or that every match is basically fiesta because of the abundance of power weapons, but it's almost as if the game has gotten worse. There's no way in hell I could bring myself to play it consistently now... Which is kinda sad, because I even put up with Reach for two years.

GG 343i.

Reach is good, everyone go back to Reach.

All playlist CSR now working. Might change the design later, but this will work for now:

Quick CSR

Let me know what you think/any changes you think could make it better

As I said before, I'll most likely be keeping it CSR only to keep it as lightweight as possible

Simple and quick to load. Much better than digging through Waypoint.

Really nice, I would suggest a couple things. Provide some sort of visual differentiation between Team Scoring playlists and Individual scoring playlists. So far, that looks like this:

TEAM:
Castle Team DLC
Team Objective
Capture the Flag
Dominion
Team Throwdown
Team Doubles
Grifball

SOLO
Infinity Slayer
Big Team Infinity Slayer
Rumble Pit
Multi-Team
Team Action Sack
Flood
Team Snipers
Regicide
SWAT

The rankings happen at a different pace between these two types of playlists.

Another suggestion would be to working getting it to have a responsive design so that it scales to any screen size, avoiding the need for an a mobile version/redirect. You probably know more about this than I do, but www.microsoft.com is a good example of this. Load it up in a browser, then change the window size, it should scale from desktop to tablet to mobile seamlessly (although it's pretty close already right now).

NeoGAF's mobile site allows for pinning with Windows Phone, perhaps look into that, really useful for phone users, again.

Then finally, consider either rehosting the webapp or providing a simpler URL and a redirect. Tons of ways to do that :p

(sorry for all that, but just some ideas)

Thanks! Appreciate the advice

I like the idea of team scoring/individual scoring... just trying to figure out were I could get that information on the fly (If anyone has any ideas I'd love to know).

I'm pretty sure it scales nicely to phones and tablets since it's using Bootstrap Responsive (I could be wrong though)

Re-hosting is definitely a priority since it's currently running off of my school's server lol

I would get on that immediately if you are publicly sharing it. Things like this can blow up pretty quick.

Edit**** Good work by the way.

WTF were they thinking when they picked the image for that ad on the dashboard for the Castle Map Pack? Seriously, so many jaggies, colors were terrible and mixed together, and it looked low res.

?????

I mean I guess I do post about it a lot and I will not lie or try to hide that but I do post about it here because it is basically a Halo game, might not have it in the title but the gameplay is very similar.

I will try to limit posting about it in this thread I guess but will mention bigger updates that happen to the game like when the BR DLC hits which probably would be a better option lol

I rely on your posts to know about new stuff going on with it. It's more on topic than a lot of the other stuff here anyways since It's basically indie-halo.

So with the new CSR is it harder for "good" players to rank up? By that I mean their trueskill wasn't reset so, in theory, they are already playing against better competition even though they are starting fresh at CSR1.

I'd say this is true. I remember seeing Tashi streaming and he was getting so donged on.

Could mean he's just a scrub though

yeah, i wondered if trueskill would reset as well. i guess it will just take a long to to truly sort out where you fall 1-50

I thought 4 couldn't match players by skill for shit. Suddenly it has been working really well all this time and is now ruining CSR?
That was reach, personally I have no complaints from the skill matching department. When doubles lauched I went in solo and kept getting awesome teammates, games were close as well

I think the CSR matching is mre important now than the old trueskill matching. But who knows, right now it will take a while for many players to find their real level, because it is still so new

My question is, if you have this qualification:

-Five years of industry experience and at least one AAA title shipped as a systems designer or equivalent

Why would you join 343?

My feeling was that 4 favored matching by skill over connection, thus the appearance that the net code was a step down from reach.

They're constantly resetting their host record with the TUs. Reach only ever had one TU, so it had a year to build it's host record the first time and is now over a year into building it's current one.

Halo 4 hasn't had a host record build for longer than a month at this point

But what about before Doubles? I can't remember who but there were a few members who would post their matches where they are absolutely carrying their team. This was not rare. This was pretty fucking common. "Lol TruSkill" was a legitimate post after 4 came out because of how random the criteria seemingly were. If anything, it was the consensus that the game was sacrificing skill to match players up with better connections.

I actually cannot believe people are defending a system that has been called out almost every day since launch.

We all know the TruSkill reqs have been lax since launch. We know it can swing from a really tough tea to a bunch of silly randoms in a tick. We've seen it literally every day.

Sure you're not reading the old threads? Sure some "lol trueskill" moments have come up. Sometimes trueskill has a fart when parties are involved. But for the most part I think people have been content with Halo 4's skill matching. I've seen maybe like 3 trueskill complaints for Halo 4 in HaloGAF. Whereas in Reach there was a trueskill complaint like every 5 pages.

Hell, the reason stuff like objective holdi- I mean Slayer Unlimited and Oddball Swordbase as well as the legendary donging sesh's came about was because trueskill was a joke in Reach.

So had anyone had the issue where you are in a party of 4 and right when the game is about to start you end up at the Halo 4 title screen and no music is playing? I was trying to play with YourExWife last night and it happened every time :/

Frankie confirmed pre-launch that 4 prefers skill over connection, which is why it apparently has worse netcode and slower party matching times.

Of course this was met with praise immediately after. Come Halo 4's launch, though? "WHY IT TAKE SO LONG TO GET GAME WTF 343 WHY'D U BREAK IT"

I don't know why but every time I tried to play with yourex the game booted me to the main menu with no music :/

I'm pretty sure it's a networking issue on your end - the game kept showing you as the host, then quick blackscreen and bye-bye Sir Slutbag.

Search times at the beginning were atrocious. Sometimes still are. There should have been some process where after a set time the game would loosen its matching.

As a player who's done most of his playing with just one other player for the past several months, I can safely say it's still garbage. Too many times we've gotten screwed over. If it's not getting paired up with guests, you're getting players who have under 1.0 KD and playing like expected, so you either have to bust ass or otherwise hope the other team just has inflated KD's.

You know, I can't recall a time where I've ever seen guests on Halo 4, personally.

Huh I see no strong Trueskill defense here, but yeah there were some matches where you would get some dorks( I think OddOne had a series of screens with bad teammates)

But Trueskill in 4 works also on a playlist style and you have to play at least around 50 games or so to get a stable trueskill. SO sometimes you have to get worse players.

Right now I'm pretty happy with the matching with CSR, yeah sometimes there are 2 or 3 who are just way above anyone else but this will sort out after having the CSR for longer time

You know, I can't recall a time where I've ever seen guests on Halo 4, personally.

What? I see them almost everyday and get them also often on my team, guests are still not my thing

You've been lucky. It's funny everytime we have seen one pop up, more often than that we will end up with that player. And shockingly, they're always terrible. Getting one in CTF means he hops in the Mantis because he spawns closer and then proceeds to stand behind the base with it. Well done!

Daybreak CTF is pretty great, I have to admit. I've had some pretty tight matches so far.

Actually, I don't know if it's just a placebo effect, but overall the games I've played have been more evenly matched. Whatever's happened, I hope it keeps going.

Can you believe in 2013, we still don't have a mercenary playlist in Halo?

I can.
I would gladly wait an extra few seconds if it meant that I would be guaranteed to be matched against other lone players. I hate that getting thrown into a group of randoms against a full team still happens so much.

Even right now as I'm forging, I'm having trouble building a good 4v4 map because of default Sprint. Something that would be a prime fighting space for any other Halo suddenly feels 30% smaller with Sprint.
I finished a map that I originally designed in Reach, and now realize that it's too small for persistent sprint. Now I fear that making it bigger will bring the budget too high, but the thought of having to go back and start again is pretty heartbreaking.

...and calling Tashi

I'm the best player in the world if we're not playing vanilla.

I absolutely destroyed both teams (my own included) in MLG TEAM CHUMSTAINS.

Once I get my signal booster set up so that I don't get blackscreened for half of each maps I'll probably do a little better too.

Maybe if you didn't devote so much of your bandwidth to uploading alternate reality sandbox sketches you wouldn't need a signal booster.

Played some Halo 4 last night for the first time since before the Majestic maps dropped.

We played rumble pit pro, Holy shit. It was like old school Halo. Everyone BR'ing the shit out of each other. The match was super competitive too, the top 6 players were within a kill of each other. It was a blast.

The new maps are pretty fun too, Castle DLC is a bit all over the place gametype wise. But fun nonetheless.

If Halo 4 launched with Team Slayer as the default gametype, no custom loadouts, no ordnance and basically played like Rumple pro or Doubles pro I really think I wouldn't have as many problems with the game.

The basic gameplay is there, just layered under this infinity bullshit.

Infinity Slayer should have been Halo 4s social slayer, with Team Slayer being the main slayer mode.

A man can dream though

Less people in this thread are playing the game as well though. I doubt many of us play it enough to get a gauge on how messed up/fair Trueskill is in Halo 4 anyway.

Also Objective Holders suck. They made Halo 3 BTB unplayable at one point and killed my love for it. It got worse after Reach because of the small player pool as well. Chances are it is playable now, but Halo 3 isn't all that great on red bar.

In my experience, Doubles and Throwdown were the only two playlists where I even slightly cared about winning. Every other playlist I didn't really care about winning and was just going for personal stats. When I don't care about winning, I don't care about crappy teammates. It pretty much means that TrueSkill is irrelevant.

Situation: Your teammate has a -12 K/D and you go +10 and still lose.

With visible ranks:
"Wow, he must have had a bad game."

Without visible ranks
"Fuck TrueSkill! It doesn't work!"
