Sounds like you haven't played enough of the game, as a lancer TP management comes into play at around lv25. Blindly spamming your abilities will only leave you there auto attacking and unable to combo.
You pick one of eight classes at the beginning of the game. At level 10, you can unlock any of the other other classes by talking to the appropriate NPC. At level 30, with a particular other class at 15 (at least, in 1.23), you can do quests for certain NPCs to unlock the corresponding Job for your class.
Eventually, there may be more than one job per class, but right now it's just a single job.
For now, the base classes are the ones you started with in 1.0, plus Arcanist (which is tied to the Summoner job).Hmm. I wonder if we'll still be stuck behind some harder/longer quests for the more advanced jobs. To be honest, I'd be happy with that. I assume the base classes are then the ones you started with in 1.0?
People are unhappy with it mainly because:
a) It's not FFXI
b) It's not FFXIV 1.23
c) It's not FFXIV 1.0 (yes, really)
d) It's not TERA/GW2/Some other MMO they really like
e) It's too much like WoW (supposedly)
f) It's not enough like WoW
There are more than 100,000 Beta testers, and I'm pretty sure all of them can find something to complain about.

None of this is relevant to the point that most of those people would also find it objectively bad even without something else to compare it to.
I'm still waiting for my beta invite as an original FFXIV launch player, but Squenix seems to be in no hurry. And yes, I found the original combat in FFXIV to be awful and the reversion to auto-attack even worse. I would be in the camp that wants combat to be dynamic and action-packed, not stand in one spot and watch myself hit the mob and spam my skill bar.
Well, not sure if that's clear to you, but if you want to play WHM, you need to level CNJ anyway, since WHM is a job you get to equip on your CNJ. It's not separate, think of jobs as a specialization.Seems like I'll stick with my conjurer then to 30 to get to WHM a bit quicker. I guess I'll know a bit more once I'm actually in the beta and may mess around with a few other classes since there's the wipe after 3, but no wipe after 4.

Several things are accelerated in the beta, and that isn't representative of the final game. And lordy, I guess NDA means nothing to some people.
You mean subjectively bad, surely? Because it is not objectively bad.
Most combat mechanics in many MMOs would be considered objectively bad if you were coming from any single player game. There are limitations in the nature of MMOs which naturally make some types of combat infeasible but really most MMOs have shitty combat when compared to single player games of any kind, RPG or otherwise.
also, a disclaimer, people expecting this game to be like FFXI's will likely be disappointed.
Why are people so down on slower pace combat? FFXI was pretty damn slow but at least it encouraged team play and some level of thought. I can't say the same thing about this new wave of action mmos.
I'm keeping my eye on this. Do people who purchased FFXIV get any perks? Free months? Beta access? Anything?

In what way? I definitely don't expect it to have the same grind... but things like huge zones, good overarching stories, really good dungeons that encourage a ton of cooperation, Being able to experience every class across one character... is none of this stuff in the game?
Off the top of my head Tera requires a lot of team work. Sooo I don't know what games you are thinking of.Why are people so down on slower pace combat? More traditional, with some emphasis on positioning for attacking enemies from back/side for certain skills (though this is common in lots of traditional MMOs too, I just mean you can't quite stand there all the time, like in FFXI for example).
Yeah, CNJ has to be 30 before I can equip WHM. My CNJ from 1.0 was early to mid 20s before I quit. Old characters being held over, I should be able to pick up where I left off and finish off the last levels I need on CNJ to unlock WHM.
I'm only looking to try out other classes in phase 3 (if I get in) since there's supposed to be a wipe before phase 4.
There will be 2 wipes at least: after phase 2, and after phase 3, since they're testing Legacy characters import.I think the wipe happens after Phase 2, since they will be implementing character importing (from 1.0) into Phase 3. What happens after the beta ends entirely, I have no idea.
This game should really be ported to PS4 as well, as the PC version looks fantastic. The Ps3 version looks pretty bad in comparison... Plus It could be FF on PS4 at launch.

That FR :S.
It's gotta to be in the teens for the ps3, Iam usually not sensitive to FR but thats bad.
Looks like XI, but in HD.
Can't say whatever it's a good thing or not, honestly.

this is all i ever wanted and it's something i'll never get :<
So what does everyone think opinion wise? Do you see this MMO "really" succeeding with a subscription model? Is there enough justification to bring in enough subs?
flat on its face it will fall.
There aren't enough people who care that will sustain this..which is a shame because it looks gorgeous..but I can't do the point and click combat of mmo's and this doesn't look like its going to deviate..otherwise I'd jump on this sinking ship.
I'd say try it out anyways if you can, I think it feels a lot better than most traditional MMOs. It may not survive on a subscription, but I will jump in for a while at least. A PS3 version in could probably help it a lot.

I played FFXI for about 4 years, primarily on the PS2 (2004). this is my first time touching an MMO since that time. And i'll tell you, after just 2 days of playtime, im already feeling the effects of withdrawal. The game IS good, and the flaws that you may experience are fixable.
I Can't wait to see how Linkshells, raids, NMs and HNMs, and all of the sort works. I'm very interested in the synthesizing systems and the AH. Since armor is now bound to you, I Want to see how this may affect the sales of rare items/equipment. I've yet to experience any of this in the beta. Yet, I'm still feening. The music is fantastic.
That is all
As for perks, the most prominent is the 'Legacy Players' who had paid at least three months subscription last year. They've been getting preference in the closed beta tests and will get a permanently reduced sub fee when A Realm Reborn launches (in addition to some perks like exclusive mounts and stuff).
So people who bought the original don't even get a free 30 days or anything? Lame. I cancelled before I paid anything.
