I'd like to see "Major" replaced by "Major" and "Regional" as terminology. The former would be for large tournaments like Final Round that are gigantic hubs, while the latter would be things like Civil War, Texas Showdown, April Duels, etc, that are primarily for locals.
Thought that's what it originally was then people just started throwing major on everything.

In the pre-SF4 era, their was only 1 major and every other big event was a regional. Hence why NCR is called NCR. Years after SF4 is released and another fighting game boom began we now have events like FR and NCR that draws big numbers and have competitors from all over the nation and even the world. So it depends on how you want to define a major. For me it's attendance so if you're drawing 500+ registered players(and even more as spectators) then you're a major in my opinion.

That's what I considered the last 2-3 "Majors" after Final Round, especially the Canada one, looked like they had less players than WNF, win 2 matches in your pool and then you're already top 8.

But there are majors with regional in their name like ncr and scr

I think soon any tournament that is a EVO qualifier or a Fall Classic qualifier will be considered a major. Technically speaking you can make the case for NCR/SCR being qualified as majors now.

Things will get really muddy if VxG starts having its own qualifiers and starts drawing big numbers.

Ok I just saw the Felicia infinite and it's using the same type of glitch as the MODOK (ie. damage isn't scaling). It's the same tech but I wonder what it is.

It looks like the Chun Li combo counter glitch infinite where you can actually block it mid combo so these aren't true infinites, it's just the combo counter glitching up. Someone probably didn't know about it and thought he discovered something new when he probably should put the dummy on block.

honzogonzo and jebailey are going back and forth about that on twitter and supposedly it's a training mode glitch.

It's all the same person and it's all using the same combo counter glitch. It's not real, you can block these unless I am mistaken in which case this is a game changer.

I would actually love to have real infinites because then it means we won't have dumb TAC infinites anymore and characters would just die faster. Low tiers would jump way up and Firebrand/Strider type characters would be top tier.

It's on a island and requires a passport to get to, that alone will prevent it from ever becoming anything bigger than it is right now unless they move the tournament to the US mainland. TFC won't have that issue and IMO could become a huge mega event like EVO is today. They just have to start smaller because it's the very first event and is unprecedented for many TO's to come together like this. But maybe in 5 or so years, it may also take place in a gigantic ballroom or even a convention center.

I would love to have infinites all over the place, so Capcom would have to step it up and patch this shit up #neverstopbelieving

If Capcom's hand wasn't forced with TAC infinites (which by the way Nitsuma addressed as a problem that he would "look into" and a lot of Japanese players were really upset by it) then regular infinites won't do shit either. They will get more pressure to patch but they aren't going to change their plans because of it.

I honestly think that the day TAC infinites were discovered was the day they should've called an emergency meeting to plan out the draft for a patch. The whole POINT of MVC3 as they marketed it from day one with the way hit stun scaling worked was to avoid this to begin with. It is now a product that does not work as intended and that in this day and age is grounds for a patch. Right now MVC3 is getting closer and closer to the MVC2 formula, it's not going to be a good look that MVC3 ends up where MVC2 was when Capcom didn't even fucking TRY with MVC2.

I know almost nothing about DC comics, but a Google image search of "Raven DC" got me these:

I'm sure you know a lot more than I do, though, since you have an opinion on it. :)

Looks mannish to me. Looks more mannish in Injustice though, yeah.

And are you still so salty that I called you out on not knowing what you're talking about with the MK-style projectile system that you had to shoehorn that dig in there? Even after I said "I don't now much about DC"? lol dude.

It's possible to make fun of people without being salty, you know. Since you are claiming I'm salty, though, I'm sure you know all about me. ;-)

It's the people that don't go to majors that call everything a major. Don't worry too much about terminology.

Pretty much this but generally, I'll consider anything that's a once a year event to be a major. If it's a qualifier for a bigger tournament, I like Regional more, personally.

But they're pretty interchangeable anyway.

Bringing up shit that happened days ago with something completely unrelated is like the definition of "Oh man this is the same dude that said that shit to me? God my butt is so hurt I gotta let everyone know."

I'd like to see less of the "pro players flown in to snipe 100-person local tourney", personally.

Enzo, Art is running NLBC this week instead of Bifuteki.
Forgot to change this, will do.

Those infinites only work if you're opponent is holding forward though. It's like a faux combo because the opponent is willingly letting hitstun continue. Might even just be a glitch where the combo counter is allowed to continue after it shouldn't and hitstun doesn't continue.

To me, a good definition of a major is large amounts of out-of-region talent there, and large enough brackets, I'd say having at least one tourney over 128 with at least 32 out-of-region qualifies you as a major.

Just having a Chris G or a Justin show isn't enough.

Yeah, it's pretty occasional, if it wasn't, would came up a few weeks after release
But a man can dream right? So read this: UMvC3 is losing hype and slowly dying just when a wild DC fighting game appears and it's making a good success. Marvel won't let this happen, right?

If I keep this up, the wifebeater could make a comeback... #naaa lol

Uncle Valle would power up ten fold if he does that.

In case anyone missed it, GameTrailers' Memo To Capcom.

Choice words about their fighting games in there. Generally a very good series, though I disagree about their delivery of fighting game updates because it's mostly done in that manner because of the distribution fees etc. And they kinda miss that Capcom did put in incentives for players who got burned by buying Vanilla, as tiny as they were for both games (SSFIVs was much better).

They can't bite the hand(MS mainly) that feeds them doritos. Would have been better had they emphasized MvC3's terrible management and mentioned more fighters other than Darkstalkers.
