Game Informer June Cover: Infamous Second Son/PlayStation 4 Issue (30 Pages)

Chamber

love on your sleeve
So could anyone say what is there about Destiny?

Action game mechanics in a social gaming world. Everything you do in the game and every choice you make changes the gameplay tools available. Choose your activities based on short and long term goals depending on how much time you plan on spending with the game. Gear, weapons, and upgrades tell a story about things you've done in the game.

Plus some standard fluff and talk about their input on PS4.

Thanks, so really no big and new stuff huh. Seems like they really want to wait till E3.

Dammit.

I'm interested, Infamous is one of my favorite series from this generation and Second Son looks like it's gonna be smokin' hot!

OMG i have a fear about this game car list ...
I hope they won't go crazy on the dlc.
i'm accustomed to Sony car games with +1000 cars ...

Haha lets get real

It'll likely have a car list more similar to something like PGR3, another launch title. PGR3 had 80. I expect around 100 starting for this.

"Did we consider it [always-online]? No, we didn't consider it. The main reason being that many countries don't have robust internet connections. It m akes sense for people to have internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust internet... We didn't even consider that [always-online]."

Glad to hear that.

Any words about DS4?

Would be nice if their android app was compatible with 7 inch tablets!

EDIT; You can't even buy single issues of their digital magazine!? What's the world coming to?

Would be nice if they would fucking confirm my subscription so I could bloody access the thing. Jesus Christ, what the hell is taking them so long? It's a bloody digital subscription.

Dualshock 4 prototype hands-on (some new in-depth info, some we already knew):

- Some components are still being refined (like the d-pad and overall weight)

- Deadzone on the analog sticks has been greatly reduced.

- Both sticks feature stiffer resistance.

- Thumbs bumping into each other is no longer an issue, the analog sticks are spaced farther apart.

- Analog sticks have a ridged concave top that prevent your thumbs from slipping off.

- Stuck with symmetrical design. (Edit) Writer suggests the assymetrical design would cause more dificulties to interact with the touchpad without unintentionally bumping into the left stick. (Not said by sony or the game devs)

- Touchpad is multi-touch, replaces start and select buttons.

- Ridge at the end of the triggers grasps at your fingers instead of letting them slide off.

- There is a small speaker above the ps button, below the touchpad.

- Lightbar works in conjunction with the ps4 eye to track your position and adjusts the split screen accordingly.

- Controller felt comfortable and sturdy.

- Got input from Bungie (and a bunch of first party studios) for designing the DS4, Bungie really wanted to make it a controller that worked great for fps games.

- Writer of the article says the controller is a big reason for gamers to be excited for the console.

What. People had this problem?! Whoa, some people must have giant hands, better get checked by a doctor.

First time I heard a third-party being named in the DS4 feedback. Great to hear Bungie is in there. Wonder which other studios got to be asked for this.

Hey do you mind if I make a topic with you post?

DS4 sounds awesome. I really can't wait to get my hands on it. Interesting note about Bungie. Sounds like Sony is trying to get in their good graces early one. I bet DICE had a few things to say about the controller. One of their programmers was tweeting about "hypothetical" changes he would make to the DS3 last summer and most of them seem to be in the DS4 (sticks, triggers).

I just hope they put a better battery in that thing. I'd imagine the new features would drain it more than the vanilla DS3 and my current DS3 can barely hold a charge :(

I believe you, but I honestly couldn't be happier with my DS3's battery life. It lasts quite a long time.

They've confirmed it has longer battery life

My DS3's have a pretty decent battery life. The new features won't really drain any more power. Touchpad won't add power consumption and the LED barely uses any power.

There's a pretty funny gif out there poking fun at the thumbs hitting each other on the dual shock. It's done in the infomercial-has this ever happened to you style.

I hope the analog sticks are able to detect thumb movement on the stick without me even having to physically move the stick.

That would be rad, and eliminate a lot of deadzone issues.

Also interesting to note that they're still working on the D-PAD? Hope they make damn well sure it's just as good as the Vita D-PAD.

Sony patented something like that

Could this be the thing Sony does not want people to find out about the Dualshock 4

Could this be the method Sony is using to reduce dead zone from dualshock 4?

Patent was filed in October 2011

That DS4 needs to weight at least as much as DS3 but more preferably as much as the 360 controller with batteries in it.

I like heavier controllers. Gotta protect myself somehow if Gaffers invaded my house.

Most definitely Guerilla Games at the least.

Nice fluid/fire effects in the Infamous shots.

Nice interview with Media Molecule too. Clarifies some things. He makes it quite clear it's a 'game' where you make things others can play or experience - be it a gameplay experience, or a music video or whatever. Although he leaves it up in the air about whether it'll be wrapped up in a specific type of game ala LBP or be a more purely open creation tool. He says they're looking into using the Dualshock 4 also as an alternative to Move - that obviously the things people make will at least have to be playable with a DS4, whatever about the create side of things.

Yes! Thank you Mm.

And thanks for the great info as always, gofreak.

lolz I remember bringing up in another thread that I hope the sticks would be spaced further apart in the DS4 because my thumbs knock into each other on the DS3 and then being attacked by a bunch of defensive die hard fanboys for daring to criticize the DS3.

Anywaysss, TY for posting the DS4 info, I'm excited at the prospect of actually having a bearable controller for the PS4

I wish we could see GG RPG at E3 but there's no way we'll see that until next year at least, if not later.

I'm glad Sony doesn't think that way.

I'd never heard of people having their thumbs hitting each other a week ago, and now I've heard it several times since. Mine don't even get close. How do you rest your thumbs on the sticks? I use the tips to move them. Feel like I have much more control that way.

The main thing I wanted with the DS4 was for it to have a bit more bulk/weight like the 360 pad for a better grip, and tighter analogs. Don't have a preference for stick placement either way

I don't actively think about how my thumbs rest on the thumbsticks, I just grab the controller and let things go from there. I have heard a lot of people say this before the PS4 was announced and I heard a lot of people happy Sony did this when the controller leaked before the February event.

Amen.

I'm extremely pleased with everything Sony is doing with the PS4. If the feel and ergonomics of the DS4 are good and online stays free I will have absolutely nothing to complain about with the PS4.

Yeah, so far everything has been really promising and exciting. I'm hoping E3 is the same!
