I'm going to be optimistic about the price. Cerny and co. have clearly made some very forward thinking decisions when designing the hardware. No doubt price was going to be a big factor when designing the thing. I don't think they'd have made such a powerful machine if they didn't think they could sell it at a good equilibrium point. This thing won't be a trojan horse for a new media format with expensive proprietary tech driving the cost upwards. I think we'll be fine.

No way man. People would be clamoring for that. Money almost aways comes first.

Nothing is arrogant about a low price.

It depends on the rest of the conference. Certainly if it's a mind blowing conference where they announce positive things about DRM etc. they could certainly get away with it.

However if they do go to the dark side and just expect people to buy their console because it's cheaper it could backfire horrendously.

One day to go on my god!

The thing I want the most out of this conference is a legitimate suprise. We all know Naughty Dog and SSM will be there with new games. We know Final Fantasy will be there. The only thing that would be a suprising about TLG is that it still exists, the game was announced in 2009 for goodness sake! I want a game that comes out of nowhere and blows me away, something I could never have predicted.

I don't think they use mics.

There's a mic right there on his shirt. Drop that lol.

I just skipped around through 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 E3 conferences. Sony should emulate 2009 if they can with a few modifications...less time spent on handhelds and dead platforms (Sony talked about PS2!!! in 2009). They showed game after game, even some dudders. Like MAG. Lol. They even had an exclusive FF13 trailer in 2009 that filled everyone with hope that the game might turn out good. TRICO, GT5, Modnation, Uncharted 2, AC2, etc. They should mimic that show.

The best E3's for Sony during the PS3 era were: 2005, 2007, & 2009.

2005 was smoke and mirrors, but it got a lot of people hyped nonetheless. It's not the greatest because of the fake targets, but at least it was exciting (unlike E3 2006).

E3 2007 was amazing simply because after E3 2006, a lot had changed. PS3 was flopping, and was the system with "no games", people said the graphics weren't as good as the 360 and Gears....they were kind of a laughing stock at that point. But the Killzone 2 demonstration was absolutely mind blowing. What a fantastic trailer, that year was quite exciting. Talk about ending the conference on a high note. Unfortunately the trailer leaked early if I recall.

E3 2009 was also very exciting - TRICO trailer blew minds (and unfortunately an early version leaked prior to the conference), Uncharted 2's demonstration had 2500 jaws dropped on the floor, and they also revealed God of War 3 gameplay. Arguably Sony's best conference this gen.

Hopefully Sony takes a bit from each of these conferences and puts on one hell of a show. At this point, I hope nothing leaks either. I'd be disappointed if a megaton or trailer were revealed prior to the show. Only 1 more day.

Definitely. I just have no idea where to start as a semi-newcomer to the genre.

Cool. I'd recommend browsing the PSone Classics section on your own to see what catches your eye, but as for where to start off, you can't go wrong with these IMO:

Wild ARMs
Final Fantasy 7 (I personally consider 9 superior, but everyone has played 7 at one point)
Suikoden
Breath of Fire 4
Grandia

The majority of them are turn based affairs and are pretty easy to get into. While the old-school 3D graphics (battles in Wild ARMs come to mind) may not have aged quite as well in comparison to the 2D elements, they're not too much of an eyesore. Research these yourself and pick the one that catches your eye!

I never delved into the DMC combo systems at anywhere near that level (total scrub here), but the DmC systems didn't seem too bad to me in comparison either. A quick youtube search turned up these vids which seem to be OK and still well beyond my abilities:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55xnoNkHxFc&hd=1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwfPz6dZJ6c&hd=1

Sorry for the late reply, but yeah, I probably shouldn't have posted those videos because they defeated the purpose of my comment. I was trying to say that to the untrained eye they'll look the same like so, but you're missing all of the nuances in those mechanics. For example, if you use devil trigger at a certain frame of a move in DMC4, you're essentially performing a just frame move like in fighting games, and you gain an extra boost in damage. That's why games based on reaction and timing benefit from having 60 frames per second, which DmC cannot deliver on consoles. DMC4 came out in 2008 and even that game managed to have 60fps. There are plenty of problems. Some moves in DmC slightly pause or stutter after a hit, which is annoying. You also have to take into consideration that it's vastly easier to execute these moves in DmC than previous ones. Besides the fact that the button layout transferred from Heavenly Sword to DmC with switching between two stances, there's no lock-on button. Why? What did they gain from taking that out? All that does is free up on button on the controller, and what did they do with it? Add another evade button. Redundant design. Even games not from the same genre like Kingdom Hearts recognize the value of having a lock-on function when you need to know what you're swinging at. I don't know how they could have made such an elementary mistake. It just shows how Ninja Theory didn't take the time to truly understand neither the fans nor the series. Not only does it keep your enemy in your sight at all times, it also allows for directional inputs, meaning a greater variety of options at one time. That's basically what it boils down to in DmC: it simply does not have enough options compared to previous DMCs. In DmC, you have handguns, a shotgun, and the kablooey if i remember correctly. They're all pretty straightforward, but compare them to previous ones. DMC3 had 5 firearms and DMC4 had 3, but just look at Pandora. That thing might as well be 5 different guns; you could chuck it like a boomerang. The melee weapons don't feel varied enough and are even more unbalanced than previous games. The Aquila does too much hit-stun and the trillion stab is broken. Dante doesn't have a teleport. There's not even a damn dive kick. Color coded enemies limit player options by cutting it in half. They basically treat you like you're using a coloring book. After 5 seconds, there's no strategy to figuring it out. Hell, if they wanted to go down that route, they could have had an enemy who switches between red and blue, so you have to react accordingly. The greatness of DMC combat was the flexibility to kill enemies however you want. Again, Ninja Theory acts like they've never designed a hack and slash game before. The ranking system hands out S ranks like they're candy, which defeats the purpose of achieving the score. It throws big numbers at you like they're supposed to be impressed, but there's no satisfaction. I don't know what happened with 2; that was just a cash-in. However, even that game contributed to the series by laying out the foundation for styles. DMC3 established it, and DMC4 refined it. Even though there are less moves and weapons overall for 4, the ability to switch on the fly was inevitable and great. Styles allowed for even more variation in gameplay. There's nothing like royal guard in the reboot. It's satisfying to parry enemies in one frame like you're Daigo against Justin Wong. DmC threw the style system out like it did the lock-on feature and gained nothing. They should've just put a block button on one of the evade buttons. There's no taunt, which is a staple from the very first installment. It gained devil trigger, style meter, and was a fun game mechanic. More glitches than previous ones (because Unreal engine).

What did DmC contribute in the end that game developers can learn from? When you get praised for your platforming aesthetics more than your combat in an action game, there's something wrong with your design philosophy. The platforming, by the way, is mindless. You're switching your stances back and forth to grasp the platforms in between airdashing. It looks pretty, but there's no depth, and it simply kills the replay value when you just want to get to the fighting. I said before that DmC is a mediocre game, so there's obviously some positive aspects to the game, but the reason it's so disappointing is that it's had 4 games already from which to learn mistakes as well as what works. The previous DMCs didn't have that luxury; it helped shape the genre. What other game had styles when DMC3 came out? Just like FFXIII and Resident Evil 6, it tried to be different for the sake of being different without contributing anything in return. All these games simply ended up being watered down experiences of their respective genres. There are plenty of other problems if you want to dig further, and I'm not even touching on the story or music. I don't know if I need spoilers, but
like the Mundus fight at the end where it's just a lazy variation of the Succubus fight by jumping between platforms.
I'm sure gaf is tired of hearing this stuff.

Holy crap, I'm so far behind. Please slow down, gaf! T_T

Edit: Just wanted to leave this:

Probably silly question, but does the PS4 controller allow for headphone/earbuds to be plugged directly into it? or is it like the 360 where it only allows propriety headphones?

Any news or rumors about being able to hook the PS4 up to 2 different TVs? Imagine if that was somehow possible, and you could play the same game, or least have 1 person playing a game on one TV and the other using apps or just browsing the store?

Probably wont happen, but it would be cool.

My Sony E3 hype has sank after listening to the 8-4play podcast. My intuition that MS is going to murder Sony particularly due to Sony faltering. Shoot man :(

who do you think has two tvs in one room? Unless you're thinking of dual monitor setups or something.

They were talking on the podcast how MS is buying games out to not appear on PS4 and my worry is in addition to that, Sony might just recycling stuff from PS Meeting 2013.

I hope I am wrong.

Sony has new things to show. All of the insiders have confirmed this. Be prepared for Noctis

That sounds incorrect and the latter definitely isn't happening.

I doubt it. Sony's first party studios are ready. That kind of business practice won't be sustainable either for Microsoft or the third party publisher for very long.

I was reminiscing of the good ol' days and I was thinking, how cool would it be to revive long lost forgotten I.Ps? Such as G Police. Would love an open world game this time. The Killzone SF utopian city demo just reminds of what it could be like.

Huh? Why would your intuition lead you to that conclusion, and what did the 8-4play podcast say (who are they?)

I have been watching the past Sony E3 conferences and I noticed Sony spends a lot of time on boring, useless stuff. Stuff like Tiger Wood Move Demo, Kobe 2K demo ,Star Trek DLC and WonderBook for 20 mins.

I am worried they spend a portion of the conference talking about Mobile, Move and other stuff not pertaining to the real purpose of this E3.
