And behold....a HD town. Toriyama eat your heart out.

I just noticed, there's a car driving by on the street. Nice touch. Makes the world just that bit more believable.

Looking at the trailer I think they will do this quite a bit (FFXV might too), Monolith Soft seems to love these great little touches, like the grass, moving text on the buildings, etc.

I can't wait for this game.

Wait, so in this crazy world of imaginative monsters and giant mechs everywhere, there's also ordinary cars and traffic lights?

Because there weren't enough Final Fantasy XV comparisons, already. =p

EDIT: I just noticed this, but all the way in the back you can see what looks like an elevated roadway with a car passing through it.

Just noticed that Monolith is now at 108 people, up from 92 last year. Some/a lot are probably in Kyoto, but still, it's nice to see them growing.

there is a small pop up in first 25 seconds. can you find it? :)

Are you talking about the thing on the right at 0:19? It looks like it might be a screen that's changing.

EDIT: Wait, even further right I see something. I don't know.

That's fantastic. I also can't wait to see a new 3DS game from Honne's team.

They'll soon be coming up on 2 years since the studio opened, so I imagine a reveal can't be too far away. I think the actual development is being outsourced since the studio has hired no programmers since it opened, or at least not advertised for them. It's possible, I suppose, they brought some over from the Tokyo studio. I imagine they're working on art, planning, and design for this game, though. Still, I'm excited to see it too, and unlike Soma Bringer, I hope it gets localized.

Was the "time" clock feature in the first game? Could there be dynamic night to day effects?
Yes, some areas changed drastically at night. You could also change the clock to whichever time you wanted, which made NPC-hunting a little easier. I played in some areas exclusively at night because of the changes in scenery and music.

This game is really impressive looking. Unfortunately, I skipped on Xenoblade, but this certainly has my attention.

I'm sure Naughty Dog could pull off something better looking on the PS3, but that's about it...this is definitely (at least to my novice eyes) a step up from last gen.

Soma Bringer was Takahashi though, right? Honne's been working on Dragon Ball Z and Project X Zone, though he hasn't been a producer on anything since Dragon Ball Z in 2009 and not a director on anything since Baten Kaitos Origins in 2006.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I'm just saying their games have a history of localisation 'issues' so I hope that this one comes across, too.

There isn't only night and day ;)

There are others too like starfall, rain storm, heat haze, lightning storm, etc. I'm sure X will have a lot of varied weathers too.

The big monster in the background reminds me of a mutated supersized Peahat from Ocarina of Time. The most terrifiying monster in Zelda.

I don't understand

This game looks magical. Just playing the trailer once an hour, it looks like the dream of the ultimate JRPG.

This will be a pre-order for me. :)

This has a strong Xenosaga look to it. I just hope the story doesn't end up such a turd as XS2/3 did.

After spending weeks looking to get a physical copy of Xenoblade (even after I had beaten an emulated copy, back when it seemed like it wasn't coming stateside), I will not make the same mistake again.

Special edition pre-order. Possibly multiple ones, from different regions, depending on the feelies. If this game is half as good as Xenoblade then we have another jrpg that requires playing.

My two only complaints so far about the presentation are the lackluster aerial lifeforms which would make the world even more believable and the inconsistent lighting across scenes. Sometimes, the game looks great and shapes are well-defined, and some other times, everything looks flat again. I hope they can correct these two things by the time the game launches next year.

I've seen several aerial lifeforms in the trailer. you can see differnt aerial lifeforms also in the Gifs posted in the previous page.

I agree, but they are not enough of them in this trailer that contribute really to the immersion. Xenoblade was all about switching from busy phases to relaxing ones, and the gracious moves of the aerial enemies was a factor in making the player feel zen before a frantic battle. I would miss this element in X if there would be a deficit of living winged enemies.

It's quite a specific complain but I would be glad to see it addressed.

^ They really should release Xenoblade in HD though.

I'd buy a Wii U for that alone. Touch up textures and character models, implement detailed shadow maps and re-release it.

Turns out Nintendo did port DKCR to 3DS in order to support DKCTF... as they ported Ocarina of Time to 3DS to support it's prequel: Skyward Sword and are porting Wind Waker to Wii U in order to gain time for a Zelda game made from the ground up. This game could use no better service (than seeing Xenoblade getting a port too).

I think i would replay it if they do that.

Yep. Satorl Mash was the best example:

So goooood. Also, it's interesting that the first trailer for X showcased the battle system on foot (same as Xenoblade's), whereas this newest trailer didn't show a single frame of the standard battle system, focusing on Mechs instead. Leads me to think that the gameplay for Mechs will be totally different - realtime controls and actions rather than arts?

Xenoblade is a really unique game in the sense that technically it was trapped onto the Wii hardware in a symbiotic interdependency of sorts. Because it also took benefit from it.

Basically, everything is there, animation is really detailed skeletal animation is all there, it's not like some games where having less polygons means the possible facial emotion gamut is reduced or they have no data for individual finger animation; and thus whilst remastering have to do it all over again, it's nothing of the sort with Xenoblade, as they sacrificed a lot for scale, yes... but at the same time, they kept the whole core intact; a core that wouldn't look out of place anywhere they were unwilling to let go of that complexity, hence the day night system being so breathtaking and the like.

I guess what I'm saying is... it's a pretty damn modern game, the structure is there, just the assets could use more resolution and the character models better polygon count. (I won't say better polygon count on the world because scale makes it beautiful and enhancing that would require lots of man hours; they could probably do away with pop-up and variable LOD altogether though.

Of course, being trapped is an evil thing to say, the fact that it was on the Wii made it so that development could be faster with the team they had them; had it not been there it would quite easily gone overbudget or could still be doing it (or more likely, at some point they'd realize they had to do pretty big cuts in order to get to market on time).

But it's what they say of polishing a turd, Xenoblade is the opposite, it's so not a turd (and it's rare now, sadly) that they might as well polish it a second time around.

It's actually one of my grudges, stuff like Chrono Cross were made, even then, at more than 320x240; at least 1024x768 for each background. And how come nobody released an enhanced version as of yet? Same for pre-rendered FF's actually, instead of remaking 7 they could try and re-render it at a better resolution just so they made justice to their assets.

They got the Xenosaga artist back. Though I almost think the armor designs are based on a rejected concept Soraya Saga did for Monolith many years ago: Titus 12.

Ooooh, they should revive that. Anything you can dig up about Titus 12? As it likely didn't enter full production, Nintendo should own the concept by default.

Concepts evolve, I'm sure Takahashi is not hung on that otherwise he'd keep pushing for that to happen.

He probably embedded some ideas originally meant for it elsewhere.

It's just now that I realize that there a lot of floating rocks and islands in the trailer. Wonder what's up with that -- it'll definitely be awesome to fly up there and look at the scenery.

In general, the trailer shows me all of the stuff I missed in the first trailer. In January I thought the game's environment was looking a little too sparse, I didn't get this "I want to go there!" feeling that made Xenoblade so special for me. But X's second trailer shows me a lot of places I want to discover. Really looking forward to this more than any other game right now; no matter what style of game it'll end up being.

This GIF looks like current gen, not very flattering. It looks like you could take any good AAA open-world game from this gen and make a similar quality GIF. Low poly environment, low poly character, poor textures, average lighting. I'm taking into account the quality of the GIF.

Game looks legit hawt. Literally the only thing on the Ninty horizon that has tipped the WiiU in a "some day" purchase direction for me when it hits the right price point. £50 price reduction and maybe a schweet Metroid thrown in and it's likely game on. Pretty much where I'm at after the anti-viagra that was the SM3DW reveal.

In the trailer it looks better than any open world game this gen, when you factor in art + tech. Looks really great.

it's just an FFXIII joke. nothing meant to insult "next-gen"
