people are paying attention to the muramasa story? i feel like it just gets in the way of all the rad swordy bits.

Don't get Metal Slug XX until after you've gotten Anthology and only if you just have to play more Metal Slug.

It's a huge filesize and pricey for one Metal Slug game compared to anthology. It's an enhanced port of Metal Slug 7 from 3DS, and that's the SNK Playmore style Metal Slug from 4, 5 & 6. The one's with CG-esque backgrounds, reduced animation frames on the new art assets, sometimes questionable level design & imbalanced boss patterns. You'll notice the difference from 1, 2/X & 3. There's a kind of cool mission mode, but at the price, you'll likely feel like you could have done without it.

Also, as an FYI, don't buy the standalone Metal Slug 1 & 2 [Neo Geo Station] games in the PSP section. When I had my 8GB card, I thought I'd free up Memory Card space one time, becaue Anthology is like 700+MB and figured that having 2 Metal Slug's on-hand, at around 50MB was good enough to still get my fix. Nope. Framerate was so bad. It's like they're running off completely different emulation technology. Got myself a refund and re-downloaded Anthology.

Do get Shock Troopers, though. 32MB and one of SNK's best games... perfect for a quick arcade fix.

thanks that helped me alot. getting anthology then and checking out Shock Troopers. I do like to try out these oldies

also Odin Sphere or Grim Grimoire?

Whenever I try to download something on my Vita. I always get the following message:

Preparing to download...
Please wait.

Then it just sits there

If I cancel it I'm a stuck in PS store and I have to power off

It's actually become such a problem for me that I now make all my PSN purchases on a PC, then start all my downloads via the Download List on the Vita.

I dunno, something bugs me about the new text -- it's very heavy handed or something -- I much prefer people who are fluent in both languages to give me a ... accurate translation of the gist of what's going on, not a word for word... so the Ignition text was probably closer to that.

Since it bugs me so much, I'm uncomfortable giving them $35 for it. When it's on sale, I'll suck it up and grab it and bear with it so I can experience the game (much the same as something like Okami where they use those stupid Charlie Brown type voices... Okami HD should've had an option to turn that fucking noise off).

Hmm, I so would you say you like translation or localization more?

I think it depends on the story to me. When I know there are people of elegance and power involved, and the story is serious, I want them to sound just as formal, as regal, and as underhanded as the original text intended. I'd much rather have a "And he shall bear witness to my power!" rather than a "I'll show that bastard what I've got!"

If Japan's text explained a period drama, I want to get the same feeling from my own language; I don't want a work to go from feeling like an adult take on a subject, to a teenage pop drama.

Muramasa seems like it wants you to consider it's story, as much as it's action. It's been a long while, but I'm inclined to think the current translation understand this much more than the Ignition version, which simply treated the tale as a justification for you to mash slash into the next scene.

Brevity can be good, but when used incorrectly, it can simply be disrespectful to the author's intent.

The translation is better. No question. There's a difference between being heavy handed and simply being a bad interpretation. Aksys' version does the period and personalities justice.

Jinkuro really shines through here.

I never played the original game. Is it worth it asking for a remake?

Watching This Youtube Video, I'd be up for it... but what exactly would happen?

Would it still be isometric? Would it turn into a beat em up? Would it still have awesome music? Would enemies still commit suicide if you outran them?

See, now if he said "It'll have graphics made by Vanillaware", I'd instantly scream a loud "YES! MAKE IT NAOOOO!", but... err... not enough info?

You are right, we definitely need more info on that. The game looks interesting though. And the music is quite amazing.

You want to play Odin Sphere and Grim Grimoire on your Vita? Unless I totally missed some amazing news, you can't play PS2 games on there yet.

...but for future reference, or to buy now, I'll recommend Odin Sphere. I loved both games, but people prefer Odin Sphere and it's a more straight up action game that will have a more immediate appeal.

Go ahead and get yourself Muramasa: Rebirth and wait for Dragon's Crown in August if you want to play some awesome Vanillaware games on your Vita, though.

I'm in a bit of a pickle here, would appreciate suggestions or your opinion.
I just got a Vita and I have PS+ on my PS3, the thing is it's not on my main account. It's a separate UK account (I'm from Portugal) I created to take advantage of a good deal offering 1 year of UK PS+ for cheap.

1)Now I'm torn on what to do considering the + and the shitty fact that you can only have one user per card, because it doesn't really feel right to buy things for two separate PSN accounts, one of which has fake address information and such, but I want to enjoy these + games I have, especially if I decide to renew + once it ends in a year or so.

I think I'm going to buy a pack that has a 8 GB card+10 games so that means I need to decide which account will get those games. I'm torn, what do you suggest?

2) Can I transfer a save game to a different account?

3) Is 8 GB reasonable or is it too small? This memory card thing is bullshit of the highest degree.

1. I am from South America but I have U.S. PSN account since the offerings for my region are just bs. I have always had that account and never looked back. I pay for all my games (except the ones I get with Plus) and services on that account, so I don't feel I'm doing anything wrong. I never use two accounts because it can be a real hassle. So my suggestion is to just pick the account you like and stick with it.

2. No idea since I've never used two accounts.

3. Since you have PS Plus an 8GB will not be nearly enough. Try to get at the very least the 16GB one.

Hope that helps! Enjoy your Vita!

Atelier Totori Plus: The Adventurer of Arland (Eng Ver) will arrive PS Store on 4 Jul.

According to comments on the Asia PS blog, Asia will get an English version of Atelier before it's September release in the US.

You're confusing their late release of Totori for our September release of Meruru, I believe. We've had Totori for months.

"The Last Ninja was the most successful original game ever on the Commodore C64. In Europe the sales for the C64 version alone were in excess of 750,000 units and international multi-format sales exceeded 2,000,000 units. It won many awards and was universally critically acclaimed as an original, ground-breaking game.[14] It was also a runner up for the award of Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards '88.[15]

According to UGO, "For a 20+ year old game, The Last Ninja is surprisingly advanced, sporting a combat system which allows specific body parts to be targeted, environmental obstacles, multiple weapons and hidden items galore."

So, yeah... I want a remade... :)

Yep can't wait for Atelier Meruru to come. Hopefully I'll be done with Atelier Totori by then.

Between Killzone and Meruru, September is going to be an awesome month. :)

Hey, can the Vita play DLC for PSP games? Considering picking up the DLC for Valkyria Chronicles 2.
The answer is a "yes, but..."
Depending on the game, the Vita won't download the DLC itself - I know my Vita wouldn't download the DLC for either VC2 or Gods Eater Burst, but in both of those cases transferring it from a PS3 worked. The DLC for Disgaea 2 on the other hand is quite happy to download directly to the vita. It's one of those hit and miss things, like PSP game compatibility.
So yes, in VC2's case PS3 transfer works, but it means you have to transfer over the 22 or so individual missions included in the DLC pack separately. On the upside, if you have VC2 on the vita, I think that means you have a PS3 anyway :p

I can understand being true to the original, that's all well and good, but I prefer localization, though done by fans who do it because they love the source material, not by employees who do it because they get paid to do it and have to follow rules and regulations. I thought there was a SERIOUS drop in quality of the subbed versions of anime series such as Naruto or Bleach once Dattebayo and the like stopped doing the subs. Once they started streaming with official subs, it just wasn't as good.

To me, there was a serious and jarring juxtaposition between the dialogue the two characters were having in the sample screens I saw. One was talking like she was a modern day no-nonsense chick and the other was talking as someone who dropped out of 16th century England. I can only imagine it's similar throughout the whole game.

I really want to consider the story -- there are few games where I try and then give up (Bayonetta, for example), but mostly I try to stick with it , The subject matter is probably something I'll like. But that's the thing with me and written text -- I'm very peculiar about what actually grips my attention and holds it. Since there's no English dub (which is fine, I actually like that for this game), the text is everything (just like Folklore, for example, which still irritates me... there should have been voice acting instead of comic book style text bubbles in the story scenes). Given that I want to pay attention to the story and can't stand the new translation/localization, I'm not going to be able to keep my interest and will just end up skipping the story, which is why I'm not willing to drop the $35 I added to my account on Monday on it anymore.

I was so looking forward to supporting the release too, which is why I think I'm so bitter about it. I'm just glad I stumbled on the link of the comparison of translation efforts *BEFORE* I dropped the money on it.

Ended up double-dipping on MGS HD collection on Vita this time, especially since I sold my Xbox 360 (Which I made the mistake of getting the HD collection on in the first place since the PS3 version was sold out in all the local stores).

So, hell, this will be the fourth time I bought MGS2 and the third time I bought MGS3. I need to find a different set of games to multi-dip on before rebuying MGS games becomes a habit. Microsoft, where's that PC release of Halo 3? I need to have a reason to buy it for a third time.

Anyway, I'd love if Squeenix got a bit of sense kicked into them and decided to have that iPad Deus Ex game brought to Vita. Hell, it'd be the system-seller of the century, and not just in a perfect world.

The thing is, what you're saying you prefer isn't localisation.

The purpose of localisation is to adapt content to provide an experience similar to that of the original work in it's target culture. It's to try and remove the cultural barrier.
Yes, in many cases, that means being more liberal with the translation, but it's for the purposes of being more 'familiar' to the culture of those who are playing it.

One was talking like she was a modern day no-nonsense chick and the other was talking as someone who dropped out of 16th century England. I can only imagine it's similar throughout the whole game.

The thing is, in Muramasa's case they're meant to sound like they were dropped out of history. In the original Japanese game, the dialogue is the same.
For lack of a better, less brusque description - it is dated and overly wordy.
It would have had that same impression on players in the original language, so in order to accurately simulate that experience for players in a second language it must also be overly wordy in english. The new translation/localisation is designed to ensure that the experience of playing the game is preserved.

The "modern" translation used previously wasn't a 'better' localisation because it sounded modern and reads easier. It was a shoddy job that ignored the original presentation and character of the game.
(And I say this as someone who agrees that the original translation was an easier read).

Based on the original question of do I prefer translation or localization, maybe I prefer something in between. I don't know exactly what to call it, so we'll call it a fan translation/localization for now.

So with that said, I prefer fan translations/localizations when it comes to Japanese to English. Whatever you want to call them, that's what I like. And the original Muramasa "cliff's notes" version by Ignition was better/preferable to me. I find the new text not to my liking. Simple as that.

i know i'm "supposed" to be playing P4G but i couldn't help myself after seeing that FFIX thread

it's vivi time

I know I'm stupid late...buuuuuuuuuuuuuutt.....

In HM I like to use the rabbit mask the best. Being quick on my feet is key for me. I took some advice in this thread, and decide to throw caution to the wind when it comes to planning. Just run into rooms, throw punches, pipes, pots of hot water, whatever. It's a white knuckle thrill ride that I love.

Also, anyone living near Cincinnati, OH, can still get in on those 4gb VIta cards. I am about to buy me several, though only in store pickups are available.

quick question:

on the vita store, MGS 2 +3 HD is sold in a collection but it also looks like you can get them separately. is the MGS3 HD any different from the one in the collection? i really only want that one.

On the verge of getting a vita...any chances of thier being a price drop soon or how often does the actual hardware go on sale (at Amazon, Best Buy, etc...)?

Try to wait till Gamescon. That'd have the biggest possibility of a price-drop happening.

Thanks for the reply. My problem is that I already have a lot of things purchased on my main account that doesn't have PS+... Had I known it would bring a hassle like this I wouldn't have joined + on a different account.
I'm only considering an 8 GB card because there's a pack with that card and 10 games for 40€ and I have 20€ discount to use in Game stores.

I don't know what Sony is waiting for a price cut, if they are waiting for games then they are waiting time, 3DS got it's first price cut (july 2011) before the good games hit.

what kind of horrible advice is this?

Stay away from that P3P abomination, people. it's a very bad port and lesser Persona experience with a lot of stuff removed, don't support this crap port job.

I didn't recommend FES, so he'll have a good experience with the game. c:

Vita Gaf, I must confess that ever since beating P4G there has been a huge Vita hole in my life :(

Disgaea 3 will fill any hole. If you have yet to play it that is. You don't play it for the story, or the characters you play it because the actual gameplay has some depth to it. I am sorry but no game will completely fill the hole that P4G has left.

is that Nyko Power Grip worth it for extra Battery Juice?
Congrats.

buy Persona 4 Golden, Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, Guacamelee, New Little Framerate's Story and Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (PSP)

also get the official stand, it's very useful.

well I got PS+ so gravity rush was already downloaded also Guacamelee got it for Ps3 since its cross buy :D
