Anyone know about this game Bleed?

It just was released on Steam, 10% off @ 4.49

Trailer looks awesome. Bullet hell acrobatic platformer shooter? Right up my alley

Oh, and Summer Sale starting tomorrow? Maybe

The unnamed game from the last batch is called A Good Husband and it's a sequel to 2010 A Good Wife, by the same guy who made The King of the Wood from the first Indie Thread. It's a first person shooter that deals with problems of dysfunctional marriage from the perspective of frustrated husband. The game mainly consists of doing usual house chores, like cleaning or cooking a meal for your constantly dissatisfied model wife, and encountering your past in a form of flashbacks, the one nearing the finale in the bedroom is particularly interesting - I mentioned it's a shooter, right:D There are few endings depending on what you choose to do, but like most of these weird indie titles it's really short, so there's no reason not to check it out, it's free of course.

Bleed is awesome, highly highly recommended. A relatively simple game in what is tries to do but it does it fantastically well and you end up feeling like a psycho ninja after a large encounter where bullets are flying everywhere and you are slowmo-ing your way through the middle of them while unloading two hand cannons into the bodies of your helpless foes. It isn't the longest of games, you could roll through it in an evening if you powerplay, but it does have a lot of replay value with alternate weapons, costumes and difficulties.

Took a look into the new Steam releases(early access):

Infested Planet looks interesting and weird at the same time:

Not something I'd drop 12€ on though without a demo. Looks a bit tower defense-ish with some some arena shooter elements thrown in. Certainly interesting, but that doesnt necessarily equate with a good full game.

Horizon - seems like typical 4X:

Its pretty easy for a 4X game to be shitty, so thats definitely not something I'll drop 20€ on without knowing anything, but I'll keep it in mind I guess.

You guys can test APEXICON (just letter generation right now) at http://65.188.187.138:50000/

I need feedback on whether you use up vowels too much or if they generate enough at a good pace. Try making as large of words you can so you can use up more letters.

You can't deal damage yet, and dictionary hookup isn't ready, but I'd like to have you guys help test it out at various stages if you're cool with that.

Soundtrack recommendation: FTL

Composer: Ben Prunty

I wasn't going to nominate the FTL soundtrack to be my entry, it was supposed to be other game but after playing FTL for nearly 6 hours, I can say that music brings the atmosphere to the game and it's an important aspect for a good game, and Ben Prunty was able to capture the concept of sci-fi space and transform it in music helping to build the amazing experience that is play FTL.

It doesn't matter if the game has perfect gameplay and graphics if the soundtrack is poorly made or don't combine with the game it's a complete turn off for me.

Soundtrack playlist on Youtube

My favorite track is Civil (Explore) that track brings that feel of calm after an intense battle.

Buy it from Bandcamp

Tried a run, these were my words:

Diagram
Wives
Mud
Dews
Pat
Wife
Day
Dread

After that I had like 4 Q's, 4 V's and 3 Z's. I get the impression that the randomizer seems to give 1-2 letters rather often every time its creating new. I just tried to re-randomize (in two steps) the whole board and got 4 I. 4 D and 2 G and 3 other vowels

On my next try I had: 4 P. 2 B, 2 D, 2 Z and only 1 vowel.

What frequency % are you using? The frequency of letters in the english language?

Thanks. I've heard of this, and I think I know what is causing it. It's most likely trying to pull the font I'm using from your computer, but you don't have it. It should still work just fine. I'll have to set the fonts to something everyone has or something. Maybe load the font into the preview? Not sure.

Something very similar, yes, but still tweaking to preference more vowels than consonants.

Yeah, the problem is that the % for the words being used in a game probably isnt the same as the one when just thinking of single words. I was more often than not thinking of multi-vowel words and then ran out quickly. If you change it again, let me know and I'll give it another run.

I decided to buy Infested Planet. It's not a tower defense game. It's a real time strategy game with some tower defense elements. (Two of my favorite genres)

If anyone's interested. here are two posts from the developer's blog that I think best describe the core of the game and the strategic depth of gameplay.

What’s This Game About, Anyway?
"First and foremost, Infested Planet is a game about exciting tactical skirmishes. It’s about fighting against incredible odds and coming out on top. That’s what happens when you land on a planet with 5 marines and blow the heck out of 10000 aliens."

Infested Planet Battle Report
"This is the story of a random game that I played yesterday. I decided to play at “Master” level, to make things interesting."

Of course it's Early Access, so there are glitches but according to the dev:
“Infested Planet is very close to being complete, but there are still many finishing touches that it needs. What do you get right now? Hours and hours of random battles using our procedural mission generator and the finished half of the story campaign."

I'm really enjoying the game. I love tactical strategy and tower defense and the visual impact of 1000s of swarming enemies attacking your small unit is very impressive

I like the central gameplay I am seeing, but I am somehow not convinced the game is worth 13€ now because I havent seen anything that suggests that every new randomly generated missions plays significantly different from the last.

And so I did ^^, been waiting for this to go live again

Me too, just play for about 40 minutes. While it looks really pretty, there isnt much to do so far. Villages dont do anything and to beat a quest location takes some heavy grinding.

Downloading now, was a fan of King of the Woods. That's an amazing concept. Thanks!

Love Facade. It was a pretty popular game, had over 1 million downloads. Don't know what happened to the developer, but it says 2005-2012 so they probably disbanded.

Lovely new trailer for The Way of Yiji. I'm super excited, it reminds me of Superbrothers: S&S EP influenced by a Japanese culture.

Yeah, that popped up on my indie statik feed ("The Way of Yiji is a contemplative game and a beautiful soundscape about a dying samurai looking out for his son") and interested me. Although, wouldn't mind to see if there's combat.

After some nice indie games, Indie Fund is backing FRACT OSC. From what I had played of this game, I did not like it at all, but people seem to think otherwise.

Do you mean the old 2010 FRACT demo? I heard somewhere that it's much different now then before - read it as you like.

Take this ''shooter'' part with a pinch of salt.

Now that I think of it, it was the title that pulled me into indie gaming, along the Feed the Head, so that's sad to hear the've disbanded completely.

Soundtrack recommendation: The Path
3634772802-1.jpg.png

Composers: Jarboe and Kris Force

Jarboe (of Swans fame) and Kris Force (of Neurosis) team up for the procedural soundtrack of The Path. The OST combines renditions of the tracks with narrations of the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, highlighting the sensual and sexual. At times subtle, at times overt, it is an excellent dark ambient album.

The procedural medium is unique in it's musical abilities. Unlike other mediums, it can be different every time as tracks fade into oneother depending on the in-game context, bringing a completely new meaning to the concept of dynamics in music. To replicate this in a music album is impossible, and I would advice everyone to listen to it both in-game and on the album. Many a time when playing did I let go of the controls (as required) to revel in the auditory experience.

Whereas the medium is keen on graphical development, our audio is still in a mostly primitive state, having changed little since it's inception. There is so much more untapped potential (not that that isn't true for visuals but I feel it's all the more true for sound).

Recommended track: Forest Theme
A rerendition of Jarboe's Troll Lullaby, the main theme of The Path highlights very well the sexual tension and morbidity that befalls the game. Don't let the wolf into your bed.

Haven't seen this game come by so far. But recently I've been trying out Frequency Domain, wich is a game about exploring sound and music. You might say it is a Audiosurf rippoff, but actualy it'smore something to play when you want to relax and just do something fun while you listen to your favorite songs.

That reminds me I need to finally try it - it's been waiting in my inventory for some time now, which is inexcusable. The dev btw is a member of our Steam group, so give it a go guys.

Soundtrack Recommendations – Hotline Miami

Featuring Sun Araw, M.O.O.N, Coconuts, Jasper Byrne, Perturbator, Scattle, Eliott Berlin and El Huervo

Another great recommendation- My personal highlight is the Jasper Byrne track and the M.O.O.N track 'Hydrogen'. That little buzzy beat in the background makes me want to stop what I'm doing and play that game right now!

In case it wasnt obvious yet, I have a thing for space games. Kinetic Void is nice to look at and has a pretty neat ship editor considering the current state of the game:

Now who programs me a Dwarf Fortress in Space.

So I finally remembered to try Nitronic Rush with a gamepad. Now that is the way that game was meant to be played. A AAA quality freeware game

Has anyone seen their Greenlit followup Distance?

And another freeware game, one of my personal favorites:
Against The Wall
The freeware game is the Alpha version

If you like it, there's a Greenlight for this game. Hasn't been Greenlit yet

That Distance game is just pure Ecstasy, I'm really gonna keep my eye out for that one and a release doesn't look that far.
