BioShock Infinite DLC: Clash in the Clouds (Horde) & Burial At Sea (Rapture) revealed

lol

Infinite generally had a lot of big, epic-scale encounters, where BioShock 1 was more about you observing splicers in their natural habitat and being able to set up combat a little more, so we've really pushed back toward that a lot.
*cries tears of joy*

Bioshock is one of the few games where I could set up devious ambushes and feel truly hunted down by the AI once the ball got rolling. I had no idea how much I'd miss it until I played through Infinite and felt something giant was lost. So anything along these lines is great.

I'll put some my thoughts about Clash in the clouds in here, I've spent about 3 hours with it in total so far.
How well do you think it could be used to teach players about interesting combinations and combat mechanics?

I've done one playthrough of Infinite on normal, and didn't feel the need to get all that creative, so am looking to do another playthrough on hard to truly explore the nooks and crannies of the combat system and vigors. Would this DLC be a good primer? Or is it more for people who already have the moves down?

That's weird. Levine won't say "how" they are involved. So I guess they aren't a direct threat. Maybe
we'll use them like we did Songbird at the end of Infinite

I was wanting to see Elizabeth make it to Paris. Do ya'll think that's out of the picture or is there still a chance?

so disappointed by this DLC. Having bought the season pass at launch expecting story DLC, im not too bothered by one being a horde mode, but more that they are going back to Rapture. I loved Columbia and thought it was beautiful. Would have preferred they make the DLC in the sky. Oh well, you learn from your mistakes. first and last season pass for me.

Yeah, it starts off pretty easy so you have room to play around. You don't get all the vigors at once and unlock which ever ones you want as you go so you'll have more access to stuff (it gives you all the weapons) than just the normal progression. It gives you room to experiment since it throws more of a variety at you, but you are still kind of on your own in terms on how to best approach a battle

I'm sorry to say, the people who have the moves down already will benefit the most.

The DLC doesn't really teach you any interesting mechanics outside of a few challenges.

Yeah, No skyhooks as gameplay be more akin to Bioshock 1, while Clash in the Clouds will offer more of the Infinite approach. From the Eurogamer interview:

Eurogamer: What kind of gameplay implications are there? What's coming in from Infinite, from BioShock? What's new?

Ken Levine: So, it is built upon Infinite, but we have made a lot of changes, and the amount of changes to style of gameplay vary from when you're Booker in the second one [Clash in the Clouds being the first DLC pack] to Elizabeth in the third one. It's more stylistically and gameplay tuned like BioShock 1. Infinite generally had a lot of big, epic-scale encounters, where BioShock 1 was more about you observing splicers in their natural habitat and being able to set up combat a little more, so we've really pushed back toward that a lot.

Eurogamer: Are you bringing the Big Daddies back?

Ken Levine: I think people would be pretty unhappy if there were no Big Daddies. I won't say exactly how, but yes, they are involved in a certain way, and the combat will probably feel more like BioShock 1 combat, but there's a new weapon and a new vigor plasmid in each of the DLCs. Well, let me think - I don't want to talk too much about the third one, but certainly for the second one there's a new weapon and vigor plasmid. I think we really tried to modify the gameplay so it felt more like a Rapture experience.

Seems like even ken liked bioshock better than infinite. When the creator says for the dlc of the new game we're goin back to the old game, that says a lot

As well he should, the first Bioshock is a thing of absolutely beauty; 2 was a piece of shit and Infinite is glorious!

Never will get a System Shock crossover for what I guess is because licensing reasons.

Problem is if it was set in Columbia you couldn't really play as DeWitt, unless it was one of those alternate DeWitts. Setting it in Rapture allows for more possibilities of where the story could go.

Though, I prefer Rapture more than Columbia simply because as "Yahtzee" puts it, you could understand why people would follow a guy like Andrew Ryan, but Comstock was just a racist, religious nut. It's hard to relate to Comstock and his followers, whereas Ryan's people you could easily understand and sympathize with their downfall.

So glad I did not buy the season pass. Minus a few exceptions--well, just Borderlands 2 really--season passes are proving to be such a disastrous industry practice. I'm not sure why many consumers continue to engage in buying unknown content sight unseen.

Rapture looks more soft and fantasy-like... much like Columbia and the whole look of Infinite.

Could we please have the Burial at Sea art without the game's logo? I really want to wallpaper-ize it. Just the art of Casablanca Booker, gun smoking, with Cutesy Buttons Elizabeth emerging from the shadows... the shadows... of Rapture.

Yes! I have it as my wallpaper now but I'd LOVE it without the logo.

Also could someone grant me an avatar of that Booker/Liz art?

Yes, someone else with taste! DOWN WITH LOGOS. UP WITH CLEAN WALLPAPER!

Man, I'm excited about Burial at Sea. A fresh twist on familiar characters... A fresh twist on a familiar place... Seeing characters from one setting, in another... Rapture before the fall, at the peak of its civilization... It's lovely to see Levine revisiting Rapture and showing us what we've dreamt of since the first BioShock, right as this gen draws to a close. :)

Thanks for the responses. Guess I'll just stick to the hard runthrough and see if it clicks.

A story about
infinite timelines
should have no problem creating an errrr new
infinite timeline

I kno what happens n rapture. I kno the backstory. Less is more. Star wars was fine til we kept telling parts of the same story instead of movin on to new stories. I'll replay bioshock if I wanna go back to rapture. HAS ANY PREQUEL EVER BEEN GOOD? guess if they screw the pooch they can blame it on being another
timeline

Wouldn't that be impossible since
Elizabeth doesn't exist after killing Booker at the end?

Who's to say that these DLCs take place after the conclusion to Infinite? Seems to me that they could be untold stores from within the
multiverse that exists before the loop is closed.

Hot diggity damn. Really keen for Burial at Sea!

I think I'll just go and buy the season pass. There is no way I'm passing up Burial, and I could do with some more Infinite combat arenas.

Scrooged

Totally wronger about Nintendo's business decisions.
I don't get why people are saying they are glad they didn't get the Season Pass?

Chances are Burial at Sea will be $15 each, so even if you don't give two shits about Clash in the Clouds you're still saving money. The very best case is that they'll be $10 each...in which case you're breaking even.

Hrm... At first I was REALLY excited at a surprise (to me, at least) DLC launch today. That trailer left me less excited.

I loved BI, and I love Gears Horde mode and equivalents, but these are two great tastes that I don't think will taste great together. The combat in BI was not one of my favorite things in BI.

... but I'll probably go buy it.

I think I played the version of The Last of Us with the boring gameplay, and the version of Bioshock Infinite with the really fun gameplay.

edit: damn that image makes for a wonderful phone background, looks amazing on the Galaxy S3

Burial at Sea: yes pls

Low savings for a season pass, too. Assuming the Burial stuff will cost $10 a pop, you're basically buying them at cost and getting a crappy $5 single player horde mode for free.

gotta love how they did that though... shit out a horde mode no one asked for ever.. show something everyone wants thats """"""""""""""""""""coming soon""""""""""""""""""" -_- shit on everyone that threw down dat $20 4 months ago..:*(

with their pricing at 15 each you are saving a lot just really hope they're both at least 5+hours long each...

Deserved it. Never buy the season pass.

You save $15 by buying the season pass instead of each DLC separately because each episode of Burial at Sea is $15 a pop + $5 for Clash in the Clouds. ($20 for season pass, $35 separately)

Even if you only wanted to buy both episodes of Burial at Sea and skip Clash in the Clouds, saving $10 and getting an extra DLC thrown in (even if you don't plan to play it) isn't too bad of a deal.

i didn't really interpenetrate it as that... i think they're going back to the old gameplay style simply because rapture doesn't really make sense for big scale arena encounters. and we're probably going back to rapture simply because, hey its booker and liz in pre-apocalyptic rapture. what's there not to like

but i think the next -shock will see a balance of the two types of gameplay

Have they said they'll be $15 each? Saw someone say that in another thread, but it seemed like he was just guessing.

This is what I'm wondering. My decision and the fate of Rapture hinge upon it.

I absolutely love the concept, however. Such a sucker for detective stories.

I could maybe understand your disappointment that what we got in Clash in the Clouds is one of the three packs we were told of, but from an economical standpoint you hardly got screwed, it's a better value to just buy the season pass for the complete Burial at Sea than to buy them separately.

Besides unlike most DLC in the current age of gaming, Irrational didn't start this until the game was finished, so making something on the scale of story driven Bioshock DLC takes a lot of time and effort. If they weren't put under so much pressure to get the DLC out ASAP we may have actually gotten a third episodic DLC instead of Clash in the Clouds, but because people were basically demanding answers about it right after release they decided to make this DLC to hold them over until Burial at Sea.

I agree in a world of infinite possibilities returning to Rapture is a bit limited. But, like I said if it were set in Columbia we'd have to play as an alternate DeWitt, such as the one who was killed fighting for the Vox Populi. And that wouldn't be as intriguing as a DeWitt in a totally "new" setting.

Kinda wish that it was set in NY though.

Irrational's community manager has already posted in this very thread saying that it is $15 each.

Edit: For your viewing pleasure:

As stated in our official press release, it's $15.00 / equivalent MS Points. See below.

I'm loving this horde mode, so much stuff to unlock it's crazy. I can't find any voxophones though.

One issue is how hard the waves get, but I guess that's understandable. I can finish them all but getting the blue ribbons on later levels is hard as hell. If you die you cab either start from wave 1 again or continue on the wave you're on and automatically forfeit the ribbon.

Well worth the $5 though that's for sure.
