For the price yes, it's quirky and fun and it won't take too much of your time, unless you really like it in which case it's extremely replayable.
There's a 3DS VC version now, no need for dirty carts. Get with the times, gramps!

Idk, I think some stuff on Guacamelee was borderline racist in a its ok-cause-we're-selfaware stereotype way and the reddit meme stuff was cringe-inducing

Ah, that's weird. Did you use V to see the vision lines and the weapons' range? Did you use the enemy soldiers during the previous as well? Usually those two things have prevented me from running into the issues you mention. What I love about the game is precisely that I think it's totally clear about everything you need to factor in your strategy, and when something bad happens you can only blame yourself for not having predicted it as there's always a way to plan ahead and avoid death.
meme stuff didn't bother me so much, it was all background. There was better humor in the game quest and world that was much more front and center.
I can't speak towards the racism because I'm milquetoast white. I would say that given their location I doubt many of the team have had much first-hand experience with Latin American culture.
gameplay is great. so goddamned hard though.

I could really use a good 'murica send up indie game.
I can see complaints about latent racism, but Guacamelee seems pretty inspired to me. More so than the vast majority of games these days.
in terms of everything surrounding that; sure. I love the art style, I like the systems, gameplay's very solid, etc etc
