AMD: PlayStation 4 supports hUMA, Xbox One does not

TheKayle's here talking about Move Engines and eSRAM again? Just throw in the Shape chip and now it'll be a REAL tech thread.

So now Level 1 AMD support guys have access to heavily NDA protected documents about PS4 tech ... it makes sense to me ... and of course they can answer any question about that tech

That would explain why they couldn't tell me what happened to my free copy of Blood Dragon when I emailed them.

Audiences matter too. The Nintendo audience do not buy third party games much.

Except for the part where out of approx 900 million pieces of software sold, only 1/3 of those were first party. And the developer them selves said the Wii sku sold the most but "fuck the Wii, we hated working on it so we led on another platform". But carry on

so you saying xb1 memory system isnt cache coherent? (is correct "coherent" in english?)

The CPU requests do not probe any other non-CPU clients, even if the clients have caches. (For example, the GPU has its own cache hierarchy, but the GPU is not probed by the CPU requests.) Therefore, I/O coherent clients must explicitly flush modified data for any latest-modified copy to become visible to the CPUs and to the other I/O coherent clients.

is this why ryse looks better?? probably.

I don't think anyone said they should. I came out and said that they could if they decided to. How it wouldn't be smart to piss off a monster.

like I stated the dark side of MS is not a pretty one or ethical one. Look at how they pushed Netscape out of the market. Its not a company you want to piss off. Apple is another one you don't want to piss off.

Microsoft has no real way of hurting AMD.

Correction third party games that are not party games like just dance or games similar to what Nintendo was releasing (like Rayman).

First I really liked Ryse, I liked it even despite the "button-mashing-shit" around it, but today I saw that gladiator mode gameplay and man. My jaw was literally dropped, but not in a good sense. That game has character animations from a decade earlier. Just blew the whole thing for me, while KZ:SF MP gameplay (from the PS4 UI video) looked absolutely superior in every single way. Animations, calculated particle effects, textures (dat gravel!), performance, colors, IQ.

KZ:SF and Infamous Secon Son are the best looking next-gen games right now with a tie for the first place. DC comes in Second and Forza 5 on third. (But it will probably get replaced by Isogun, that voxel-combined particle-madness is just plain extreme, and looks incredibly fun as of now)

Killzone: SF (those latest mp screens/vid) does look more impressive visually than anything I've seen on XB1. But could be more to do with GG's technical wizardry.
I was thinking the exact same thing while at work yesterday; they seriously look amazing. I'm definitely going to need a new TV to go with my PS4...

lol watching someone pick out only things that they think make a game look bad is always funny.

How about ship crashing on the beach scene from Ryse's SP? Come on, this is silly. Ryse looks amazing, and, no, even a bad looking MP section can't change that.

In theory they could if they wanted. Last time I checked AMD does not supply Apple with anything. As far as PC hardware they rely on Microsoft's operating system.

I repeat I would not advocate anything like that. This is just general speculation based on indirect quotes uses in the article.

I have to agree, the gladiator trailer killed all my hype for the game. Before it, everything I'd seen looked pretty solid but the game just doesn't look fun and graphically, it's not as impressive as I thought. On the other hand, I didn't think much about Second Son (graphically) until the fetch trailer, it just blew me away. Especially the facial animations, just amazing. I was already looking forward to it but that trailer was just awesome!

There's still a few months so hopefully crytek can make Ryse look a bit less boring? I don't know if that's the right way to say it, but I just don't feel motivated to play it from what they've shown.

Something sold in that 5-600 million third party software, and it wasn't all Just Dance and Guitar Hero. Common misconception. Third party publishers and gaming sites/forums just generally had the same attitude that the developer on the previous page had about the console.

ok now this is something bad for the xb1

Actually, the description of that vgleaks is pretty unclear and lacking, it's not really enough to fully understand the inner workings of Durango's memory system without ambiguity. Some caches are of course coherent, for instance the caches of all Jaguar cores are internally coherent. They also seem to be fully coherent with main memory. However, the entire systems does not seem to be fully coherent. One thing that seems very certain to me is that the XB1's GPU does not implement a volatile tag on its cache lines.

Microsoft don't choose the OEM hardware. They'd have to hurt themselves to hurt AMD. by subsidising a rival product, which would be the height idiocy.

If MS made a move against AMD they would have a thousand anti-trust suits against them the next day.

Interesting read OP. I for one will wait to see how the difference manifests itself over time

TheKayle's here talking about Move Engines and eSRAM again? Just throw in the Shape chip and now it'll be a REAL tech thread.

This is the time when fanbaby wars consume many and the potential for being let down by future purchase to which allegeance has been sworn is not an option and so we keep going round and round in this circus.

Can GAF make it a policy not to be able to do graphics comparisons with obvious bull shots? Or can we just call for a ban to bull shots entirely please?

Edit: and looking at the recent postings, I certainly wish devs were more forthcoming of what they're demoing on high end pcs rather than real hardware.
GAF needs to make it a banable offense to post bullshots. Bullshots are blatant lies from the devs and publishers and pour more oil on the fanboy wars.

Just watched the multiplayer gameplay from Ryse since so many people in here are heralding it as mind blowing or something.

...what the fuck are you guys on? I agree graphics are subjective and all that, but seriously? I have no idea how anyone could say honestly it looks better than the heavy hitters on PS4. Those water effects weren't good...like at all.

And Forza uses prebaked lighting, pretty much a last gen feature.

And Ray Tracing is way more advanced than Rasterization and probably won't be viable for another couple of years, yet some advanced rasterization can look better than primitive ray tracing. The technique is not what matters, the end result is WAY more important.

An experienced developer will know the devils in development. If rasterization is more efficient and produces better results on a particular hardware, then why go ray tracing? If using displacement maps and/or Tessellation is more efficient than brute forcing a scene with a ton of triangles, then why do that? Likewise if using baked lighting is more efficient and if done right looks equally amazing, then that's just smart development to get your game running at 60fps vs one that uses a so called more advanced technique but sacrifices framerate which affects gameplay, yet gamers could barely tell the difference and actually more people like Forza 5's visuals better.

Just imagine someone trying to say an engine that uses brute force polygons is better than one that uses displacement maps and tessellation, that how silly some of these comments are. Forza 5 runs better, looks better and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Wow... this looks awful. Is this from the new Ryse footage? =/

i went to youtube to see what the vid was all about - it seems like MS is doing a horrible job of uploading decent quality vids. You cant really judge completely by the video because of the horrible quality

Oh man, here comes a new thread every day that will use "hUMA" as a measurement about how one console is better than the other.

'but it doesn't have any hUMA', 'dude, it only has half the hUMA' etc.

I believe the correct term would be "hUMAless." :)

I just wonder how long will it take T10 to get rid of the old ass prebaked lighting system and implement the day-night transition feature which GT5 already has since day one.

IMO it's the most important feature in racing games.

Yeah because 99% of real life racing takes place during the night.Personaly i think good phisics and great collision detection are more important.

On Topic

My opinion PS4 pretty graphics.XB1 pretty graphics and great online support.XB1 8 Years infront when it comes to online play.
