LOL not a chance in hell. DS Lite was a brilliant redesign combined with a great line of 20 dollar casual titles. 2DS is a lousy re-design with 30-40 dollar casual titles facing direct competition from mobile devices.
Great numbers for Pokemon though given the install base. The upside is that maybe this can put the silly comparisons to GTA to bed. It never stood a chance of coming close to GTA's numbers.
The odd thing is that it was started by Nintendo fans.

Copied the chart from latest NPD thread and it seems it didn't have january or february numbers. Don't know the reason though. Still 3DS is in no way in any beast mode. Yes it's not dying like Vita but it's not doing that well either. Pokemon will obviously help a bit.

You only have to look around to see that the 2DS is getting way better reception than it did at first. And you are not the mass market it's designed to appeal to. I'm not being so naive as to state it'll do as good/better than Diamond/DS Lite, but it may have a similar effect.

In Japan it is in beast mode. Of course that doesn't tell the full picture since it's doing relatively mediocre elsewhere, but an NPD chart also doesn't.

Well yeah in Japan it's obviously in a beast mode (not in a god mode like DS though lol) but in the west sales have been quite disappointing.

Went through the threads. There's quite a few people who thought that Pokemon's LTD could surpass GTAV's. To them I say, it won't even beat GTAV's first week of sales.
I hope Pocket Monsters Ex and Why along with the 2DS will indeed improve 3DS sales in Western regions. I'm not having as much of a problem with sales as I did some time ago though, because back then the lack of interest from third-party publishers was glaring, but then I realized the eShop is getting a healthy number of quality third-party exclusives that would have been full price last gen. VD-dev didn't have to rely on Ubisoft to make their game this time around.
We can see the shift really well, in that in 2011, VD-dev made Driver Renegade, Renegade Kid made Face Racers: Photo Finish and Shin'en made Nano Assault at retail, and now they all turned to the eShop.
I'm still hoping we'll get some good efforts like Need for Speed, Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed if the install base grows significantly, but the situation isn't as bad as it looks on retail shelves.

Great numbers, the overall numbers for the holidays should be interesting to see as well. Pokemon is a game that, while it does have a good launch, continues to sell essentially throughout the entire handheld's lifetime. Especially in this first holiday season it'll probably be the go to gift for kids of a 2DS + Pokemon.
It's doing relatively fine in France IMO.

But yeah in general 3DS western sales were disappointing.
The fact remains these comments about GTA5 aren't just coming from nowhere. I'm not saying they're good. I believe the comment I made is that now hopefully they can stop since the entire premise of Pokemon coming anywhere near GTA5 was dumb to begin with. Posting a thread comparing launch lines was just inviting the "haha told you so" responses when the numbers for both were finally released.

That's because I thought it sold 17M day one. It could still be true though. I don't see how Pokemon can get much more than 11.5M these days.

New generation Pokemon have all sold more than 11.5m, and even remakes of mainline games have (both FR/LG and HG/SS), so I have no idea what you're on about.

The funny thing is more 10-13 year old kids bought GTA than Pokemon!
I believe they are classed as passersby in the PSS system along with all the other passerby's you get for connecting to the internet. While not connected to the net in my office i saw one passerby so i assume that's where it came from, I sent him a free heal of his lead Pokemon to be nice.
Reading all the NPD figures above, since when is nearly 1 million in 6 months a BAD thing like people seem to be saying? Nearly 1 million ignoring the new year sales and post Xmas months for no apparent reason as well.
Every mainline title has sold more than that IIRC, so I have no doubt that the most hyped titles since maybe even Gold/Silver will do so as well.

I contributed to it by buying X. The threads comparing sales and launch lines were begging for comparisons between the two, and I hope now those can stop. They were misguided and only served to lessen the much deserved Pokemon hype.
