So Yoshida is not confirming the PS4 resolution either. What deos that mean? As far as I can tell he dodge the question as Penello did.

He did what Penello should've done. Not come here and write a wall of nothing while trying to downplay higher resolution.

I honestly think MS representatives should really avoid GAF altogether unless it's an AMA or something special.

He's not wrong, imo. A lot of guys didn't give a shit that Halo 3 was sub-HD unless they were paying attention.

The problem is Halo 3 is exclusive so there's no "non-sub-HD" version to compare. COD will have such a version.

The problem is, other than Forza, the x1 doesn't have any "assumed 1080p" titles to begin with.
I'd wager that this trend of sub-HD gaming will continue throughout the lifecycle of the Xbox One.

Quantum Dream and Halo are the next two Xbox exclusives that will run sub 1080p - mark my words.

Maybe because both are in no position to release games specification from a 3rd party developer. You can slate Penello (many have in this thread) all you like but he and Yoshi would be out of line releasing such info even if they knew it.

Not really the point. It sets the precedent that cross-platform games will look worse on the Xbone for the entire generation. Why pay $100 more for lesser quality? It's going to resonate from the hardcore all the way up to the dudebros this gen.

Ben Kuchera proving once again that he just does not get it.
Just because people do not care does not mean it is not real or is not an actual issue. Consumers do/buy tons of stuff that is bad, inferior, etc... due to hype/brand recognition/ignorance.

I noticed day one that Halo3 was extremely Jaggy. It made playing it in multiplayer split screen extremely hard to be honest.

I don't know. Seems like he gets it:

BenKuchera:
Things that we consider controversies and things that influence real world sales rarely have anything to do with each other.

Claire Hosking:
Wait I thought we could like and be critical of things at the same time

BenKuchera:
We can and should! I'm just pointing out that people who say "this changes everything!" are being silly.

At this point I'd agree. Sometimes it better to just let us forumites get on with it.
Not join in the fray. And make things bigger than they need to be.

Did I mess up the sentence? In that case I'm sorry. I don't see where I did though?

I think your mistake was "Hi NeoGAF. I hate NeoGAF."

It's just more tiresome hive-mind nonsense, as if all of the thousands of members think precisely the same way and you're more of an individual than we are.

Given the fact that Alan Wake ran on basically PAL resolution I think that the target demo for Quantum Break wont be possible on xbone in 1080p. But thats what CBOAT said more or less, so I dont expect many native 1080p titles on xbone soon.

Ben Kuchera just tweeted:
"The internet is going to erupt about a resolution issue in a big game soon, and I"m going to call it now: Very few consumers will care."

HE KNOWS. HE KNOWS. CONFIRMED.

I don't understand how these people get jobs covering the industry.

Of course the majority of people don't care about 1080p vs. 720p, that's too technical for most, but if the evolving narrative is "the PS4 version of the games look better" then that matters, especially when the games preform better on the cheaper system.

I love how the immediate damage control is "bu bu bu consumers won't care."

Yo Benny, guess what they do care about... price. PS4 is $100 cheaper and has better third party ports. That will make a difference.

Sure, but my point is it will only matter if they care about resolution in the first place. Most don't even pay attention to it.

Crazy that a rumor started by one person can spawn a thread with 5,000 replies and completely turn around GAF's opinion on the Xbox One, almost back to the DRM days. I guess most people on GAF secretly wanted an excuse to trash on the Xbox One again, and now they have it?

Halo 3 also had a draw distance of 14 miles. The levels were huge.

That is not why the game was so low in res though, they did some silly overkill HDR rendering which was completely superfulous. eDRAM made them then have to render the game at that silly res (beyond also the fact that they essenially were rendering everything 2x due to their HDR technique).

I don't know. Seems like he gets it:

Thx for update. He does get it then!

Opinion on GAF has almost been pro-PS4 since E3. Nothing changed, this is the final hammer in the XBone's coffin on GAF.

They weren't looking for an excuse. The GPU differences have been talked about since E3. Now it's finally truly confirmed though with Xbox 720p VS PS 1080p.

So this is what it has come to. Microsoft could be running into this shit storm with every major multiplat release if they're not careful. Obviously if this rumor is true, the third parties don't care about the graphical discrepancy, and will pay the PS4 its due in resolution, even if it is to MS detriment. Hoh boy.

If this becomes a common theme, MS might have to try and moneyhat the third parties into keeping their games at parity. I know that sounds crazy but what other choice do they have? If the public catches on to this, it won't matter how many friends someone has on Xbox Live, they will make the jump and tell their mates to make it with them.

Significant price discrepancy + noticeable difference in visuals = very bad news for Microsoft.

Frankly I couldn't give two monkeys if consumers cannot notice the difference. IQ is very important to me and anything less than 1080p is usually a disaster.

So when you're playing WipEout HD do you stop playing as soon as the resolution swaps down from 1080p

I don't think the general consensus on GAF towards the XB1 was anything more than, "oh...they fixed some of the mistakes they made." I don't think it was ever really looked upon favorably, outside of (and I hate to use this word) fans.

This thread just sorta confirms what everyone has been thinking.

Hardcore gamers react negatively to mediocre game running at mediocre resolution. Why is this Ben fellow surprised.
Hardcore gamers are supposed to care less because average consumer is half asleep?

Wipeout HD has great IQ despite the dynamic resolution. However, note that I said 'usually'. I would even play games that run at '900p' if they have no jaggies and have a sharp and clean image quality. Resolution is not the only factor involved in producing a nice clean image on your display, but it helps a lot. Now that we have entered this 'new generation', image quality is more important than ever. I have experienced the differences good IQ can make - average looking third party console games look substantially better on the PC.

Bayonetta sold best on the PS3 worldwide. Just sayin...
