That motion blur while driving is spot on. As a motion blur whore, I am pleased to see us getting that quality so early in the gen. Should be standard for 30fps games.

So if you've never applied the brakes in a racing game before you'll need to learn that pretty quickly, but it's easy to get to grips with and you'll pick up the key skills as you earn the right to race faster and more powerful cars.
If you're a seasoned driver, well versed in the art of racecraft, you can make use of a wide range of advanced driving techniques that you'd expect to employ in a simulator, like trail braking, feathering the throttle and Scandinavian flicks to name just a few.
I want to believe, because this right here is exactly my hope for the handling, word for word.

Whenever a dev talks about a mix of sim and arcade I wonder whether I need to us the brakes at all, and if I use them to slow down to carry the most stability into a turn and exit fast, or if they're just used to start a drift. The next thing I try to do is try some racing techniques to see if any of them are worthwhile.

Cool, delaying this game was the best decision for all parties, glad to see some evidence it was worth delaying.

This isn't a replacement to GT.

It's a different type of game, it's not a pure simulation at all. It's more akin to Horizon or PGR as stated by the developers themselves.

Well I'll say so far they haven't differentiated themselves anywhere near enough.

Either include it in the GT franchise, or make something that isn't covered for the most part by GT.

You get one chance to launch a game properly. I trust Sony and Evolution for delaying it until they're satisfied. I'll say the same for WatchDogs.

Smart move delaying this. Launch period is crowded with racers anyways with Forza 5, GT6, and NFS. I know they can't think about the competition like that and that wasn't the reason, but the delay could really benefit them in many more ways than just polish.

It's crazy to think what level of polish they can add though. 2014 is looking like a bonkers year for the PS4.

Just out of curiosity have you played a game like PGR or Horizon before? The handling is completely different than something like GT or Forza.

It's much more arcadey when taking turns and there is no penalty for crashing into things. Damage modeling is purely cosmetic.

Wait, GT covers "semi arcade" racers now? Man I have been playing GT all wrong these last 10 years.

What according to you does the GT franchise stand for? If you think GT and Driveclub are not very different, then you don't understand racing games. If you don't understand racing games, why advise people on how they should sell them?

Not a great comparison, but the motion blur and lighting improvements make the biggest differences. And the AA obviously got better as well.

did they adjust the camera a bit? I don't feel cramped or having too little window space to see what's in front of you anymore in the new build. I remember seeing the old video thinking that the window seemed very small and you can barely see what's in front of you

Most likely just different cars. But it's possible.

Yep It's a lot lower now you see far less of the roof in the cockpit and probably a little more to the middle of the car as well.

It's probably dependent on the car.

Glowing brakes as it was under heavy braking and so very hot.

What in the world? I didn't even know they did that. I've never seen a game do this (though I've never played Forza so I don't know if they do it). Don't remember such detail in GT either. That's amazing

All that energy has to go somewhere.

actually I don't think the camera is lower, it's actually higher, but angled down so you can see what's in front of the car easier. you can see the side mirror is lower than the old build now meaning they raise the camera up.

They're two different cars, of course the dimensions are going to be different.

Before the delay, I can just imagine Sony's decision makers sitting down with a supposed gold evaluation copy of this and wondering how the fuck GT6 on PS3 looked better. Evolution has clearly been struggling with the PC style architecture, or just way overshot things with effects bloat and overly ambitious lighting. I hope this isn't something we see repeated with other first parties (ND, SSM) who have been exclusively invested in the proprietary Playstation ecosystem for their entire existence.

I dont get why this game is getting hype, I dont get whats so great about it.

Motorstorm looked interesting

This looks like it has no point at all as a

Driving game.

If you aren't interested in racing games, then yeah, I don't see why this would excite you.

But if you are a fan of racing games, what's not to like?

I love GT but damn what are you on? The recent footage of DC looks better than GT6. That is no mark against GT6 though since that game looks fantastic and PD are wizards.

But I see Need for speed and that looks about ages ahead of this in terms of interesting, even GT6 on PS3 looks fresh and interesting.

What are they doing in Drive Club thats interesting?

Oh forgot even The Crew looks ages in terms
Of interesting. It has a point to it.

What the heck is the point of Drive Club and why are people gawking at freaking graphics?
Is that the point of this game teh graphics...really?.

Obviously GT6 was somewhat hyperbolic, but the game was delayed for a reason. I'm not sure what they're claiming that was, but logically, every playable showing has been criticized for looking very underwhelming. Clearly there had to be some serious shortcomings and struggles to warrant an 11th hour delay of a tent pole launch title. Just commentating on an observation.
