I answered to your post.

Both consoles will have hardware scalers and those scalers won't really be different from each other.

Difference here will be that PS4 won't need to scale at all its games when they run at 1080p where Xbone will have to scale it to 1080p image from 720p.

There is no any possible situation here where Xbox will have better picture quality.

Yeah, sort of but seemed to me by your answer that I was suggesting I ps4 didn't have the superior textures, resolution AA etc. :)
Have you got a link to were I can see details on the hardware upscaler in the PS4 that has been confirmed on X1?

So how many people have seen this god awful chart? I must have seen a few dozen times just today on the likes of Kotaku. It's just...I highly doubt these people have even played a game at 1920x1080 up to this point.

Argh... to cancel or keep. DR3, Forza, Ryse and KI look like so much fun, though. But man. $500 for mostly 720p games... hard to justify.

I'm sad.

Mostly 720p? Generation is more than just the launch line-up, I'm sure things will improve as the tools do.

Plus if it has games you want, why not get them now and then you can always sell it later I suppose if you want to.

I, and in connection - all of you, received a boatload of shit about this. I got death threats. I got mouth frothing insults. Most of them included stuff like "you and your sonybuttfucking gaf".

So maybe I should die. Maybe we buttfuck Sony. But it turns out that I wasn't wrong. Thuway wasn't wrong. And those of you who believed us weren't wrong. We didn't just make it up because we love Sony and hate ms. We said it because it was true.

Feeling slightly vindicated. Been an intense week of hatred. Kinda scary, even.

I totally agree. I have never been called "F*gg**", sand "n*****", and had my personal career attacked because of dropping a resolution :/. Folks be cray.

Thank you mort and thuway :)

I believed your leaks by the way although must admit it took me a while to come around on the COD res leak. But I did and now look where we are

Curious what the XB1 OS is going to turn out like at launch, also that party chat

Seriously? They couldn't even manage to run it at 900p on Xbone?

Either it was a rushed job or the xbone is severely bottlenecked.
The cross gen comparison is going to be interesting.

For what it's worth, my suspicion is that the heavy emphasis they have put on tessellation (sub-d, bumpy rocks...) may be one of the big reasons for the resolution disparity.

My other suspicion is that it's a forward renderer, which will typically have heavier vertex processing load than a deferred renderer.

Add those together and you'd potentially get a huge chunk of your processing time going to vertex processing - which doesn't scale with a resolution change. So if, hypothetically, on the PS4 they were spending 30% of their gpu resources processing verts - then if you cut 1/3rd off the total, what you have left after vertex processing will be roughly halved.

Hence the drastic resolution drop.

With that said, I have other thoughts as to what problems might be contributing, and these sorts of platform differences are almost always a combination of a many large and small factors. Long story short, there are a number of engine design choices that could prove... difficult.. with such a limited fast memory pool.

It'll be interesting to see if the level of tessellation differs between the two platforms.

None of that matters because PS4 can only use 14CUs because 14+4! D:

I personally won't influence anyone. I say buy what you want.

People that actually fight for a side outside of a forum, that aren't paid, are sad

Lol not fighting for a side, but if people ask me which one they should buy I do tell them that the Ps4 is more powerful than the xbone and costs $100 less. Even a "non enthusiast" can understand that.

This is also why I believe people have been so harsh on the Youtube footage. Quite simply, those sort of details just aren't going to be visible in a low quality video.

What a shit show today has been...lol. These two companies can't seem to get to the finish line in one piece. On topic: even though it's largely their own fault, I could see MS being really pissed at Activision here. MS might just shift some marketing $$$ to Battlefield and Titanfall.

The XBO version really immerses you in the battlefield. The PS4 version looks too "pretty". If I'm getting shot at from all angles I would be disoriented, confused, and pixelated. Throw an Oculus on that XBO version and you'd be suffering from PTSD after one round of MP.

That's terrible. Honestly, why did they aim so freaking low? Can't wrap my mind around this, how can this hardware hold up for 6-7 years? It's already outdated...

I have eyes and I can confirm this chart is bullshit.

This plus the 3D triangle model picture people bring up is so annoying.

If you don't like Tim Dog then there is something wrong with you. He is hilarious. I wish we could get him on gaf.

Can you imagine every time there is a hint of bad Sony news you'd get something like this.

Evilore should grant him immunity from mods.

His tag though would have to be legendary though

The most shameful thing he's ever done for all to see and then yes immunity from mods

I see what you're saying but he was quite unbearable on Gamespots system wars forum.

That post was way too intelligent for this thread, GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN

If I cancel I'll still pick one up in a year or so. I just may wait for the price to tumble or get a used one. I'm on the edge here.
